Players to target at the end of the year

Get Tom lynch!!!

This guy should be spoken of when talking the next big forwards coming through the ranks but he never gets a mention as it's all about the big 3 at the giants

Not quite right, he does get a mention and I can't see him being let go.

Would love to get Lynch, but I think another couple of high quality mids like Dom Tyson would be the priority ATM.

2010 National Draft

Pick 11 - Gold Coast - Tom Lynch

Pick 12 - Melbourne - Lucas Cook

Watching that draft I was getting my hopes up as the top 10 selections were revealed that Lynch would fall to us at Pick 12.

Missed him by that much... Can't see Lynch leaving GC.

We should target tommlinson, I reckon he has alot of ability

Me too.

I've always been convinced that Barry Prendergast hitched his star to selecting either Prestia or Lynch, and had no viable back-up plan if both were gone.

Anyone else would've been better than bloody Lucas Cook, mismanaged as he was...

Following on from Roosy's comments about getting a couple more quality midfielders. I was thinking that Zaharakis could be a good target. Anyone know his contract status. His good is brilliant and might be keen to get out of Essendon with the ASADA stuff sure to hit home at some stage.

Just signed a new deal. He bleeds red and black. No way he would leave.

Thanks DD36. I did a google but couldn't find anything. Cheers

unrestricted free agents: Matthew Boyd, Daniel Giansiracusa, Dale Morris, Robert Murphy, Tom Williams

I would put Ben Kennedy on the shortlist. Was compared to Boomer as a junior and has a tough midfield to crack into at the Pies.

What are peoples thoughts on trying to snare Lin Jong for cheap?

i like spangher but i don't think he would offer us much, we need a younger prospect I think.

Edited by Deez

Plowman, O'Rourke and Mitchell would be top of the list.

Mitchell is unlikely, but would be great.

The GWS lads would be realistic targets, package up a deal Roosy - we'll have both thanks.

Craig bird of the swans is out of contract at the end of the year, wants to stay at the swans but the salary cap squeeze makes things difficult for them, i wonder if a second round pick might lure him down?

any others out of contract, the more we can pump them up with offers, some will fall through.

We should target tommlinson, I reckon he has alot of ability

yep, but we need players who are ready to hit the MCG running, that is for trades I mean... our draftees can take longer, for sure, in fact better that they do.

Just signed a new deal. He bleeds red and black. No way he would leave.

If Essendon doesn't exist next year.

He and Goddard will be up for grabs.

The Mess that those cheats have brought upon players, the club, supporters and the other clubs, deserve a huge suspension of 5 years. All non drug takers then go to other clubs.

Plowman, Bennell, Ashby, Clay Smith, Colquhoun and Cunningham have new deals and are off the list.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but whats the difference between being out of contract and being either a restricted and unrestricted free agent? I understand the difference between the two free agent types but aren't all out of contract players classified as either one of these free agents?

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
