SMALL MERCIES - POST MATCH DISCUSSION

I've supported this club for 55 years. This is the lowest point ever. The players are an utter disgrace. Nathan Jones, Daniel Cross were the only ones who put in a proper effort today. Poor Jobes was smashed in the face early and did not gave his best day. The rest showed nothing.

No brainer.......we need another couple of mid type hard nosed big time accumulators who hit the ball and man hard. I know its all hindsight but we fluffed couple of chances in recruiting, eg Wines and McRea - spilt milk now!!. Hopefully Viney and Salem will develop in this mould. Tyson already looks good and should further improve. Lets hope Mitchie and/or Riley can be mid stars!!

I would have thought the recruiting priority process would be:

1. Talls when available

2. Inside accumulation tough mids most who can play other flank positions

3. Outside types.

No point in recruiting outside types until the insides are in place. Its the insides who get the ball to the outsides.

I like the way JKH despite his small size hits the ball and man!!!!

Gawn, Fitz and Spencer delist!!

Why the hell would we delist Gawn after re-signing him last year? Young ruckman with promise

Not sure even having our key position players would make a difference if our runners can't hit a target. It was good to see Roos give Terlich a spray about his disposal - too often it goes unaddressed - at least in view of the fans

Actually, it was.

For a while we have been lenient on 'triers' at the club mostly because our talented players don't have the motivation or desire to get the best out of themselves.

However, at the end of the day, the world expects results. It doesn't want to know how hard you try, that you are a top bloke or that you love the club. People don't care about what your personal attributes are. They care what results you can get them.

Unfortunately for Terlo today, the results he gave were absolute poo.

I've been an eternal optimist throughout my 60 odd years supporting Melbourne, but right now its impossible to see even the slightest glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel. I feel so damned disheartened, it's depressing.

Frawley can take off at the end of this season for all I care. That last quarter goal was all about him, his celebration and his teammates celebration showed that. The majority of this group of players has NFI about what team sport is.

The only viable asset this club has left is the "Melbourne" brand name. It would be unpalatable for this great city to not have representative club to the AFL. Rather than persisting with a dead duck or relocation a scenario that could be likely is that the club is disenfranchised. All players paid off and later reconstituted as the new Melbourne whatever. May be made up of the remnants of our current side worthy of persisting with draft picks, and others. Perhaps we will be known as the Melbourne Phoenix.

We certainly play like them...

Roos knows what the problem is. He is smart. Whether he can fix it is another question.

In practical terms you can throw the team around like he did today until you find players who want to play with every ounce of energy and passion. The problem we have is that most of the players with energy and passion can't play: Nicho, Grimes, Bail, Byrnes, Spencer, McDonald, Trengove, Evans, McKenzie, Tapscott, Terlich and Jetta.

Others with passion who can't get on the park are: Clark, Dawes, Hogan (from what we have seen) and Garland

Those without passion: Watts, Frawley.

We don't have a lot of options. And that is scary.

I still think the team is not as bad as what they are dishing up. Yes there are a lot of players who are not up to standard, but there are some who have the talent who just aren't performing.

Particularly guys like Grimes, Trengove and Howe, all used to be good but now seem to have lost the ability to impact games. You don't just lose talent. I'm sure that the scars from constantly losing and the consequent complete lack of confidence are still having a massive effect.

Our team needs to be forced to watch the replays of this week's real games- hawthorn, Geelong and essendon are streets ahead.

If the players have to be forced to watch those games then they're streets behind.

Sorry, "Community" reference

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
