I remember Barry Hall and Cam Mooney being asked by Gerard Whateley about how long it took them to feel comfortable as AFL footballers. They both said 6 years. Both played key position, as Watts was drafted to be, and both had some pretty reasonable (and consistent) coaches guiding them through.

Watts is in his sixth year, but has had no where near the stability and consistency in coaching, instruction or message that either of those two had. It's all well and good to blame Watt's, but he is not the only player of ours who hasn't reached the potential we thought they would, but unfortunately for him, he's the highest profile.

Our former recruiters may have a bit to answer for, but multiple failed coaching appointments, dysfunctional football department and poor development can't be ignored just because it's easier to blame individual players for their lack of development.

I suspect (hope) that for the first time since we drafted Jack we finally have a set up that is capable of extracting the best out of it's players.

This smacks of the 'get games into the kids' mantra that Bailey espoused.

iTS ABOUT EFFORT!!!! And some of Watts' efforts have been below under 15 grade.

We get he's not a crash, bash player. He doesn't have to be. He has exquisite skills. Everyone agrees. It's about his effort. But you have a brain. Compare his efforts on the weekend with lame efforts the week before. Its not hard. Watch the tape. If you believe that he put the same effort in then I'll be a monkey's uncle.

As I dont have Foxtel I want to hear what they say about Viney and what Roos says. Also what does he say about our win. Thanks

He sounded very resolute about challenging it. Didn't want to expand too much at the risk of jeopardising the process but agreed that Viney didn't really have a choice but to brace himself for impact. The panel all agreed it should be dismissed on that basis, as well as the fact it wasn't high and it can't be concluded that his bump caused the broken jaw. It was an opinion that was seconded On the Couch.

As to the win, he spoke highly about the level of effort across the team. Dawesy was also again the hot topic. Has rightly received a huge amount of praise in the media this week.

Saw last week live, seen the replays of both, too.

Effort is one part of it. Confidence another. Good teaching and faith shown in the player another. I'm sure there's a whole bunch more to it too.

Cheers for the opinion.

I think it was Robbo that mentioned it may have even been impact with Georgiou that resulted in the broken jaw. Given that's even in doubt, I can't see how it can go straight to the panel. Ridiculous.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
