Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I can't stand what Gibbs has said, he wants to see a premiership blueprint, he is a big part of what they plan to build a premiership around but he is a long way off an elite player imo, he should wait til he gets to that level before he tries putting talks on hold, i doubt Carlton will be too fussed if he leaves tbh

Fair bit hypocritical there.

Melbourne has contacted Bomber Thompson for the top job post Paul Roos.

And they are very bullish at the chances of acquiring him if James Hird resumes coaching at the Bombers next year.

My source has an impeccable record on information thus far.

Make of it what you will.

Believe it when I see it.

Flies in the face of what Jackson said in pre match and other occassions.

While I dont think Thompson will be at EFC regardless of Hird, I cant see any logical reason why Thompson would coach MFC.

Sunday would have spooked in clear thinking coach. Too many players cant/wont execute fundanental skills with basic discipline to a simple game plan. Absolute caveat emptor.

I am not convinced Thompson is coaching for any more than restoring the wreckage associated with him at EFC. I am not sure he has the desire to resurrect a LT basketcase like MFC.

Bomber Thompson is Essendon.

Also, Thompson knows how long it takes to build a list.

MFC is only in it's early stages, Thompson wouldn't be looking to go the hard yards.

Why risk his legacy?

We need Roos to sign on, he is the bloke to get us out of this shambles.

After last year, a lot of the goodwill Bomba would feel towards the club has gone.

You also obviously didn't hear Bomba recently talking about how much he is enjoying coaching again after a break.

If he's not at Essendon next year, i.e. if Hird is back, then Bomba will be looking for another coaching gig elsewhere.

I didn't think he'd still be so good, so quickly, but to head him talk about it... he knows what he is doing.

Some might see it as him risking his legacy.

But perhaps he has confidence in his own skill set and combining with PR's skill set, there is a good chance that together they can dig mfc out of this shambles.

He could start at years end, and have 1 or 2 years with PR working on this project.

If you think about it like that it might be appealing to a thompson (2 genius coaches working together - earning a shite load of coin)

Not to mention, I'm sure the club can find enough money to make it an appealing offer to any body

The AFL is desperate for this club to remain in the competition, they would support such a move, probably financially if need be.

After all, if these two can't get it done, who could? no body is the answer - the club would fold or relocate

My prime candidate would be Ratten, if he's interested.

Still a relatively inexperienced coach compared to the likes of Roos and Bomber but I'd place my faith in him. He was very stiff to get the axe at Carlton and was doing a better job with their list than old Mick is now.

I just watched the link on the afl site of afl 360 clip.

these 2 guys are on the same page and in agreeance with everything.
Listening to them talk about how to handle the situation and the players makes me think of them as psychologists with out the bit of paper, playing a similar role to modern teachers.

these 2 getting together would be the best option. As long as they can agree on everything, but I'm sure they're both clever enough to make it work.

Do you know if he would come to the club while roos is present or was the idea to take over from Roos at years end (and roos not finish his minimum 2 years)?

The hopeful plan is to have him work alongside Roos next year and take over the top job in 2016 and beyond. Roos to fulfill his 2 year contract and move on.

Simply can't see Hird coming back in at the end of the season, so it's not likely to be a possibility.

Bomba's successes this year will make Hird's return untenable.

Well currently both essendon and the AFL are happy for james to return as coach. Both the AFL and the club had their chance to make that call - and no one would've been shocked after the comments that Hirds wife made.

But they didn't, the afl backed essendon and essendon told james and the public he would remain as 2015 coach.

So I'm in the frame of mind that if that was going to happen, it would have already happened.

It seems that Hird would have to be involved in some pretty nasty stuff for the afl and the club to decide he wasn't fit for the job.

Then again, the final ASADA report comes out soon, so we will see what happens.

I think the AFL is desperate for us to remain in the competition.

It was clear the AFL had no confidence in our previous board or coach.

The AFL held back allocating us a priority pick, but I believe they will at the end of the year - they have faith in Roos and know he'll spend this pick wisely.

In the past, we've thrown away quality picks, so I am not surprised the AFL chose to wait - hoping we'd make rapid improvement.

I agree with you that Bomber and Roos would be a great combo, but financially it seems beyond us.

The AFL can't be seen as favoring the MFC. But I think the next CEO will do more for us than the current CEO.

I reckon Roosy will extend himself, the successor will be later.

& Frawls will stay

& we'll trade our 1st pick for another young, who's been in the system for 4 Yrs?

And I get the feeling another name player will come to the Dees at end of season.

Don't forget LBall as an assistant?

True to name dee-luded hope you are right.

Well currently both essendon and the AFL say they are happy for james to return as coach.

Edited for accuracy.

If Essendon sacks Hird now, he has no reason not to unleash.

Stringing it out til the end of the season does what Essendon wants: shuts the Hirds up for now.

They'll deal with it when they have to, once Bomba has proved himself a superior option, and when there aren't memberships to sell.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
