I have a couple of Tiger friends and went to a number of games with them when Richo was playing.

He used to get ragged for being a poor kick and he was not one of the best however

One thing was glaringly obvious to me.

For most of the time he played with poor sides, their delivery was terrible.

If he led right they kicked behind him, if he led left they kicked behind him.

On a straight lead they either kicked over his head or at his laces.

He would be remember as a much better player had he played in a better side.

He would have had way better delivery and from way more chances he would have kicked a lot more goals.

Yeah but it wouldn't have ben as much fun; watching him spit the dummy when he didn't get it lace out was the highlight of the week.

I remember once the kick missed him, was on the ground just near him but he threw a hissy fit and wouldn't bend down and pick the ball up. Priceless.

Juice Newton is the best forward prospect we have had in the last 25 years.

Yeah, of course......a better prospect than Ox, Neitz, Jakovich, even briefly Cook, and Jurrah, Clark, Dawes, Hogan...all cut down by injury, not, as was Juice, by lack of thirst for a contest.

Sorry Mono, Juice has all of these beaten with his record!

Nick Smith? I remember watching him in a final, I felt sorry that he was thrown to the wolves as we had no one else at the time!

I wasn't suggesting that they were better choices than Juice, and I apologise if that is how you interpreted my post. I was really highlighting the fact that we have drafted a lot of prospective big forwards who never made the grade, for various reasons. And those reasons were not the same reasons that are keeping our current trio off the field - nobody in their right mind would suggest that the current absentees aren't hard, angry, competitive beasts.

Thanks Mono understand and agree with your second paragraph.

GET LYNDEN DUNN TO FULL FORWARD!!

IF it didn't upset what is becoming a well settled part of our structure, our defence, it may be a good and necessary move given our big man forward injury woes. Either Lynden, or Garland when he returns, especially if Georgiou continues to perform above expectations.

Interesting hearing Grimes on SEN, Frawley's been begging Roos to go forward apparently.

Interesting I noticed Frawley at yesterday's training having numerous shots at goal everytime the group came backin for a water stop. He was slotting a few too from well outside 50. He was then going one on one with MacDonald at the end with the coach kicking the ball up high to them. I wondered at the time whether MacDonald was an option to play forward.

Has Frawley played forward in his pre AFL career?

Might turn into an absolute stroke of genius, he might settle really well into the role as a forward and it gives the backs a chance to get used to life without Chip just incase he does go

i'm all for the idea of him to start at CHF

Wouldn't read much into that. He was doing goal kicking practice back at training last year. It would be an interesting experiment but it goes against Roos' "know your role" mantra.

But with Georgiou impressing, Garland soon to return and MacDonald down back as usual (with Dunn in the mix), I wonder if it's an experiment worth trying in lieu of Clark being able to play?

A thread on Lucas Cook is a clear indication that the weekend cannot come quick enough. I'm more interested in the price of pints in the members. It has more currency.

clearly the perfect former demon here would be Jurrah.... Jeez Cook? Newton? Farout...

Farout? Interesting idea, but he was more a flanker than a key forward.

Posted

Also, following up on the Fitzpatrick talk;

In 2013 he was our leading goals-per-game player, admittedly with only 1.4 per game.

And, perhaps surprisingly, he's got a reasonably accurate record of 18 goals 11 behinds for his career, with most of that being 15.9 from his 11 games in 2013.

For a young forward, he goes alright, just saying.

are you saying that you would recruit Newton or cook over Jurrah?

Regardless... Recruiting any of them at the end of the year, won't solve our current forward dilemma...

Forget Lucas. I am making inquiries as to if James Cook is still playing! He did his ankle the game after kicking 6 goals for us, he may have recovered and be ready for another shot at glory. I will keep you in the loop.

He would probably be injured as well.

As I have said before, he too was a casualty of the Norm Smith curse - an exciting KPP forward cut down by injury just as he was leading the goal kicking.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
