Lucas Cook, just a thought

Just wondering whether if we had of retained Lucas Cook he would have been getting a game this weekend? I am sure I will get shot down by many on here for the mere suggestion, but with all our 'star' forwards injured we are calling out for someone to step up. Were we premature in letting this kid go? i mean we used such a high pick to draft him and after 2 years he was gone. You hear so much in the media about how bigger bodied KPP's take longer etc etc..did we pull the trigger too early?

I compare Cook to a very awkward Fitzy ( for his first few seasons) and I suspect the reason that Fitzy is still on the list and playing this weekend is because a club is prepared to take a risk and persevere with raw, untapped talent if the attitude and desire to succeed is evident. I suspect that Cooks attitude and determination to succeed just wasn't there.

Got it in one, from what I have been told and heard, believe he has given footy away, not even playing locally

Too slow, too soft. He'd be competing with Pedersen but I doubt he'd be an improvement. We might have cut him early but he wasnt ever going to make it. KPP take a long time to adjust to AFL level but Cook was struggling to justify his spot at VFL level.

Troy Davis would also be competing with Pedo this week. He was a decent guy and was hard at it, just limited talent and athleticism. I was glad he got a game and had a bit of a crack. Something to tell the grand kids about.

Nup but as I have said previous, there was a bloke who kicked 35 goals from 25 games "Juice Newton" never ever got a real go and then when he did got injured!

Rather a Juice than a bloke who never ever played a game!

Playing for Norwood this year after two injury ruined years ! Would love for him to have a great year and then who knows!? Plenty of clubs might be tempted to draft a 27 year old mature age!

Juice Newton? Just a thought!

Don't forget Danny Hughes, we could give him another crack, believe he is at Port this year, could cast an eye at praccy game this weekend at Casey, of course Brad Miller is still looking trim and terrific (playing coach) and saw Robbo at training the other day, if we can convince him to put the microphone down...

You come on here and complain all the time about how we should have picked Wines over toumpas etc and then you dish this up about Juice not getting much of a go? There was a reason he didnt get much of a go.. Absolute dud! How we hung on to him for too long is still unbelievable.

If you go over to AFL stats and look at Newtons Top 10 I think the term "Dud" will be quickly dispelled! Pity I cannot upload otherwise I would do so! Any other poster out there with the required know how If you wouldn't mind doing this so that in the interest of fairness the revelation of stats might just surprise some on this forum!

Chap, nobody is doubting Juice's talents, watched him tear it up in the VFL quite a few times, but the one thing they harp on about at AFL is consistency, even a mercurial talent like Lewis Jetta knows he has to do the 1 percenters etc and perform each week, this was Juice's problem, he reminds me of Waite at Carlton, can take some freakish grabs and then go missing or have a brain fade, I am staggered Carlton have put up with him for so long

I did a comparison but unfortunately the second player I put didnt have any stats.....

Please correct the following errors

  • no player matches 'A potato'

Select up to four players at a time to add to the comparison. Enter the players' full name eg. 'Brent Harvey'.

Waite would be my most disliked player at Carlton purely because of his ability to waste his talent.

Not every sentence has to end with an exclamation mark!

    DERAILMENT by KC from Casey

It wasn’t quite a trainwreck although at times, it sure looked like one, so I’ll settle for “derailment”.  The trip to Brighton Homes Arena in Springfield outside the back of Brisbane might not exactly be the same place where Homer Simpson’s family resides but, if you listened closely to the utterances of the Casey Demons fans both at the ground or watching via livestream, you could hear lots of groaning and plenty of expressions of “D'oh!” reverberating in the background, particular

TEN YEARS AFTER by Whispering Jack

Things have changed in the more than ten years since the West Coast Eagles decimated Melbourne by 93 points on the MCG early in the 2014 season. The two sides had not met at the home of football in the interim until yesterday when Melbourne won by a comfortable 54 points to remain in contention for this year’s finals series. Back in those days, the Demons were in the midst of their Great Depression but they have since tasted premiership glory and experienced a long enough period among

GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs West Coast

It’s game day and the Demons return to Melbourne to play the Eagles at the MCG for the first time in over a decade. A win keeps the Dees finals hopes alive whereas a loss will almost certainly slam the finals window shut.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
