I'm in town and going along to tomorrow's session.

Look forward to seeing the boys getting stuck into it.

Look forward to your report McQueen.

I'll be there, too

Will be interesting to see how much work the kids do this year compared to other years.

I don't think you can really compare that - the kids can only do to much (didn't Viney get an injury from doing to much last season?).

The kid probably lifts weights in his sleep.

I really think Viney is symbolic of us moving forward - I think all the youngsters will look up to him - see how hard and devoted he is and see that it translates into results.

The benchmark has been set - the Morton/Gysberts days are over.

Annoyed. This training was scheduled for Casey Fields only 15 mins from my place. Checked website this morning and it is now at Gosch's Paddock. Hope it goes well for those who can make it.

Training today is at the Paddock (9.30am) and its open to the public.

Hopefully, three new Demons out there for the first time and about to embark on long careers.

Phew, thank God it's open to the public. I thought it was going to be on Goschs and closed to the public.

I am disappointed as I could be free on Wednesday and Friday and both appear to be closed sessions.

How do they have a 'closed' session at a place like Gosch's ??

Nearly had a baby. Mitch came off the ground pointing at his foot. Lucky it was just his boot sole had detached.

As important as Mitch's foot is, I think you having a baby might have been the bigger news story.

Wanna pay for my new computer screen? Just spat my coffee all over it reading the first two sentences... :P

Please do not say [censored] like "Mitch pointing to his foot". My bloody heart just skipped a few beats

I think Nasher wants to run DL for a week without the 'Like' feature. It could be the cause of all the outages last week.

Just left and the boys were still going. Due to a considerable night with a certain Mountain Goat last night I will keep this short because it's hurting to concentrate this much.

Firstly, Clark looked great and participated in every drill I watched with the main group. Jumping, twisting and turning and kicking without trouble IMO.

I arrived pretty early and spent some time watching the new draftees who were involved in basic short kicking and handballing exercises. They all looked good but I was particularly impressed with JKH. His ball handling just looked classy and would be at home jagging goals out of nothing. Salem has a lovely kick on him.

Hogan has it all. Bring on next year!

Repeat 300m sprints were dominated by Tom Mc who was running them by himself but you could tell is was sigificantly faster and more steady than the others. At one stage, Jack Viney tried to take the [censored] out of Tom for a laugh and tom just did not see the funny side of it. Deadly serious young man is Tom.

Tyson hammy heavily strapped but running okay. Did not attempt to kick with that right leg though.

Roos observed a lot. Only got involved with the main group for the last few exercises but he does get very animated when in there. You can see the boys are loving him as coach already.

Overall I thought the skills were pretty sloppy but maybe I was expecting too much. Nicho was the main offender with lots dropping short or sailing over heads.

Happy to take questions.

Thanks for the report McQueen... great for us interstaters as you well know ;-) Were there any notable absentees? And, if he was there and training, how was Dawes looking?

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.

The Demons lacked some polish but showed a lot of heart and took it right up to the Bulldogs in an attempt to spoil their finals hopes ultimately going down by a goal at the MCG.
