Cant go wrong with a proven performer

Excellent get

I guess that's what Sydney thought with Buddy.

I hope we aren't paying him 10 million.

Now some will argue it was hard to decipher the merits of Royal as a mid coach given our poor showings all round. Given that but looking at how good Sydney have been at stoppages and ability to spread well and link I can only imagine this is like kicking the Kingswood to the kerb and taking delivery of a Beemer :)

All we need to do is get Simon Black in as well after he officially retires from playing in 5 minutes.

This isn't all it seems. He is one of the absolute top individual development coaches, specifically around skills. He had Kennelly living with him when he first went to the Swans and drilled him non stop for a couple of years and we all know the result. I would say this is his greatest skill. He hasn't done any game day coaching for over 10 yrs and even before that did more analysis work than actual coaching. What's happened here is that the plan was to have Dew doing this coaching role and Stone was going to probably head up development with his peerless skills development. Because Dew has fallen through they have thrust him into a game day role because he worked so closely with Roos in the past but not as a game day coach. Not sure this is as great a result as it sounds. He's been a long, long, time out of this level of the game and the midfield is where most of the strategic changes have been happening. This clearly indicates the succession plan is dead for the first year of Roosy's reign. I assume this means Roosy must already be looking to a 3yr stint not 2 anymore. Maybe with a great year of improvement next year he might get his appetite back and it will turn into 5yrs and another exclamation on top of the Premiership dias. "HERE IT IS!!!!"

Interesting points - I guess we won't know until we know.

WELCOME

and if you can win us a flag or two we will love you forever

I knew George many years ago when he was Jeans' runner at Hawthorn in the late 80's. Yes he was their runner on GF day in 1988 as well when Yabby had the year off.

He is a charismatic and a real football person. People may well remember that he was a regular on the Coodabeens for many years. He has had a successful association with the game for many years and his involvement at both Hawthorn and Sydney has led to ultimate success and that success is no accident. He can take a lot of credit. I also know that he has achieved this fantastic career despite having to deal with extremely tragic circumstances.

We are very lucky to have him. This may well be his last gig but he will give 100% and the players will love him. I feel confident at last that we really do have the right people at our football club.

I look at the way our players responded to Craig and I think they'll do the same to Stone. They dont need someone who's going to blow his own trumpet and prattle around like Neeld. What they will respect is that Stone has quality experience and will deliver for us I'm sure.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
