Somewhat of a revelation when he got his chance in the midfield but unfortunately went down with a foot injury which ended his season after round 13.

Goals MFC 2013 6 Career Total 6

For me Pickles is a part of the big IFs.

If we can get Clark, Dawes and Hogan together in a fully functioning forward line.

If we can pick up an A class midfielder over the trade season.

If Evans can get his back/hips/feet to hold together for more than 3 weeks then we could see significant improvement in the Dees

I rate him and hope he will become a valuable member of a successful Melbourne midfield

I thought he looked like a player in a couple of games this year but he is one of about 10 other MFC players that we cannot keep on the park to give them game time, to build their confidence and to really get a good idea of whether they have what it takes. Evans, Taggert, Fitzy, Bail, Jetta, Gawn, Clisby, Blease as well as Clark and Dawes.

We just haven't seen enough of Pickles to make a judgement about his future. The jury is still out imo, but because we desperately need mids, he will have more time to prove his credentials, one way or the other.

Agree with that Deeoldfart but IMO he is injury prone, I will be surprised if he makes it past the end of 2014.

Like about 15 others we cannot cling to NQGE,s anymore.

He gets through 2014 with no major injuries or the door for me.

He signed a new two year contract in June this year

That does not mean his services cannot ended before hand , it is just more costly.

Everyone of his years at the MFC has been notable for serious injury.

I will believe he has a sound body when I see it.

Not only do we need some established mids to come in we still need to develop some more inhouse. Pickles might work out,he might not but he has shown something that can be worked on.

His first year was wrecked by a back issue, same as Taggert, his foot happened because he tried too hard coming back.

And you want the Club to stop flip flopping on players and not waste money,. yet you would pay out a contract, nice

Pickles is one to watch over the preseason. Definitely the raw product that Roos could work some magic on

Three years for 13 games and 3 major injuries

As I said earlier he will need to show in 2014 his body can go the distance.

When he was hot he would run to positions where he could get on the end of the ball and often in space. That might not seem like a massive deal, but in our team there have been so many players that lack this quality that it makes him stand out.

His disposal lacks polish, he goes missing a bit (in 13 career games deserves considerable benefit of the doubt), and obviously needs to stay on the park for considerably longer than he has to date, but I'm still confident he'll be a player.

I see Pickles as being very much a Roos-type player.

I think with his running, and building his physique a bit more, so he can attack the contested footy better, he could potentially be a Kieran Jack-lite for us.

Come one Pickles, I've got faith in you lad!

Why Jack-lite - could be the real deal, IF he lasts the distance.

Remind me, what were his injuries? One was a back as I recall, but were the others related?

I really like pickles, really think he could be a very good player for us, injuries are the big concern.

Hear here - injuries ....... :-(

From memory Monoccular

First year back -out most of the year

Second year hip - suggestions it was related to back from first year outmost of the year

Third year foot - out at least the second half of the year.

He has played 13 games in three years.

I will not say that is 100% accurate but close

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
