"Players are frustrated at his inability to play to team structures, with Shaw and captain Nick Maxwell often fighting about team tactics during games."

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/heath-shaws-elimination-final-meltdown-is-likely-to-see-him-traded-by-collingwood/story-fni5f6hd-1226717116982

Gee, wonder why people don't want him?!

Heath Shaw has issues at Collingwood. Yes, we all know that.

If Roos believed he could settle him down and we could get him in a fair trade, there is no doubting he would add a lot to our side.

That's all I'm saying. Why is it a given that he would bring these troubles to another club?

Posted

He kicked 4 goals in the last quarter of a final against Geelong to get them into a prelim or grandfinal I believe.

It's gone down as one of the most incredible individual efforts in a quarter of football. And it was a final.

Are you having a laugh mate?

He was really devastating to the that clubs culture wasn't he....

Jesus Christ.

Correct me if I'm wrong, could have sworn I pointed out his finals heroics.

He also spent 6 weeks in the reserves after whinging to the media after being dropped the next year. I have made no claimed he damaged the culture, but that his poor attitude remained. Something proven by his choice to publicly criticise the clubs decision to drop him in 2006.

We are known to be the club with the worst culture in the AFL. We're trying to rectify it, so why would we bring in players who would, at best, be a risk to it?

Posted

They're looking to trade him because of his bad influence on the clubs culture.

I just can't fathom why people are then trying to argue he's not bad for club culture.

Amazing.

Indeed. If he wasn't a cultural sore we wouldn't be having this discussion, because the guy can clearly play.

Apparently Roos turned Rhys Shaw around and made a very accountable player.

Heath Shaw is not Rhys Shaw. Very different characters. So far as I know Rhys was never associated with the rat pack, even at Collingwood

It's a non-argument. I've just listed one player who carried his behaviour on to another club in Brendon Fevola.

I've asked you to list others. You can't. So it's a non-argument.

It's not a non argument 'steve', clubs tend to not look at the Fev types so they don't get a gig at another club. Voss was stupid.

You could probably put Ben Cousins in that bracket too, no club would touch him but Richmond gave him a lifeline and you couldn't deny his on-field and training influence but he still has a lasting off field legacy at Richmond.

Shaw is a very good footballer, in Chris Dawes words he is a one off unique individual and a pest (in the nicest way). Would he add value to the club? not sure. His off field stuff is dumb but not in the same league as Fev and Cousins. It's going to be more about him following the game plan and not being an individual in a team game. Roos is the man to make the call.

Stuie, we have a sick culture already.

Sick in the sense that there are players who are now conditioned. They are used to losing. They are lazy. They don't trust each other. They don't work for one another.

That is the culture we have. No coach is magically going to fix that with all players. Jamar, Dunn, Sylvia are all culprits and none of them give a [censored].

Heath Shaw gives a [censored] and works extremely hard. He is a smart footy brain and offers so much more to the TEAM CULTURE WE NEED.

He works hard and is a team player. Shut the [censored] up about his off-field business. When was the last time he made a hiccup?

You're clueless.

Absolutely he is, and it won't be in the positive IMHO.

Roos could change him?

Not so sure about that, especially when Shaw himself has said he has been unable to change over the past decade and is too old to change now.

Im given to understand by a couple of Collingwood mates with a bit of 'know' that hes a ratbag. Not what wed be after apparently. Hes being got rid of for a reason.

Again.....

"Players are frustrated at his inability to play to team structures, with Shaw and captain Nick Maxwell often fighting about team tactics during games."

http://www.heraldsun...d-1226717116982

Also:

"Collingwood’s players and coaches have grown tired of Shaw’s on-field behaviour,"

"The 27-year-old has always been a provocative and at times disruptive presence in team meetings but it is the on-field issues that are cutting deep."

"It is understood this week during his end-of-season meeting he made it known he needed to be given licence to play with flair."

So the cure to a sick culture is to risk it getting sicker?

I'm sure you're one of the people that wants to keep someone like Sylvia on the list because you believe PR can turn him around. Am I right?

What about Jack Watts? Will PR turn him around as a player?

If it's a yes, you're just an extremely selective, biased and narrow-minded MFC supporter who is an absolute [censored] to argue with.

Absolutely he is, and it won't be in the positive IMHO.

Shaw was the only one in their backline leading the charge in the early rounds this year. Was impressive in his leadership on the field and thought he made good decisions.

Always seems to pick the right options and is extremely attacking. We would have to consider him, but not at a great price.

Shaw Frawley Grimes would be a decent half back line.

Watts and Sylvia already play for us.

Shaw doesn't.

Fix what we have before bringing in outside players we need to fix as well.

Some would argue that Ben Cousins meets the criteria.

Wow, a whole lot of speculation.

Let's just watch this space and next year we can compare his value vs disruption levels for the team he is picked up by. (If he goes)

It's a Collingwood thing.

Speculation?

Did you watch the game on the weekend? His behaviour wasn't special effects or CGI...

But Stuie, you're assuming he needs to be fixed.

Maybe being at another club will fix things?

Ever thunk of that one?

That's my point. Why risk a "maybe" when we're at a crucial stage of fixing our club?

Now is not the time to gamble.

Would not even be considered by MFC in it's current state.
