Hope i don't get shot down for this, but thoughts on a potential trade of

Mfc trade pick 3 to GWS for Taylor Adams and pick 10?

Would mean we could get Scharenberg, Adams, and Dunstan... I'd be WRAPPED with that!

Dunstan i reckon will be there at 19, so Adams, Scharenberg, Dunstan and Crouch would solve alot of our problems, all Paul Roos types also.

Would prob have a look at Mav Wellar and Daniel Cross as delisted free agents also

Good call! I would hope for maybe Sheed with pick 10 then, but that's just me.

Me too, but have a feeling he will be an eagle before that :/ maybe pick 10 could be part of a potential Scott selwood trade?

Looking at past trades, Brad Ebert was traded home to Port for essentially a 2nd round pick.

I'm not convinced Scott Selwood is worth a lot more than Ebert, but it obviously depends on what we have to offer too.

If we don't have pick 28, we can't offer it.

*Actual Ebert deal was:

Ebert and pick 45 for Pick 28 and pick 49.

So mid-2nd round pick and a slight 3rd round pick downgrade.

By that logic, we'd get Selwood for pick 20.

Even given the precedent, its a tough sell.

Ottens was fantastic. No one has been able to offer what Geelong have needed since.

In my 26 years on this fine planet, we've never had a superstar at the MFC. I agree, Roos' track record would suggest it's possible we may start to develop some.

Let me be clear. I agree that we should be taking Boyd if we have access to him. I've said that all along. But, we won't have an A grade spine without controlling the ball (the midfield), so it's a catch-22. Anyway, I think we agree on the rarity of good KPFs.

Yes and Ottens is hard to replace...but the current Geelong rucks are streets ahead of Spencer in their ability to get the ball around the ground.

Ebert was uncontracted and was not in WC finals side.

If Melb get pick 1 we take Boyd no question.

As has been mentioned Boyd and Hogan set us up for tall fwds for 10 years plus. Long after Clark and Dawes have retired.

You dont get many changes to draft power forwards. All the ones in the AFL are either father sons or low draft picks. You cant say the same about quality mids.

J. Brown F/S

T.Hawkins F/S

Daniher - F/S

T.Cloke - F/S

J. Kennedy - pick 4

Buddy- pick 5

Roughhead - pick 2

Patton - Pick 1

Cameron - 17yo pre draft

Hurley - Pick 5

N.Riewoldt - pick 1

M.Clark pick 9

J.Riewoldt - pick 13

Just wait for Blicavs to develop.

He'll be better than Naitanui.

They can thank Cam Guthrie for that one.

They have midfielders of the calibre of Selwood involving them in the play. They do nothing up forward, just as Spencer doesn't IMO.

I think one of them, Vardy might have to replace Hawkins if he doesn't get any better. He goes alright up forward and much better than Spencer.

Where did GWS get pick 10? Is this a remnant of the compo picks? Assuming they have it I'd trade pick 3 for Adams and pick 10. I'd also do pick 1 for S Selwood and pick 7 and maybe a swap of 3rd round picks if WC are playing hardball. Unlike some here I rate Scott Selwood pretty highly.

We get Adams and Selwood, and draft something like Crouch and Sheed with picks 7 and 10. That's a fair midfield injection that would yield pretty instant results but also set us up for the future.

Demonlanders, as much as we are desparate for mids, I don't want to be playing against Boyd for the next decade (especially when we wont have Frawley and Garland for that latter years. Draft Boyd and make Boyd and Hogan another teams match-up problem (as the mids will sort themselves out).

p.s. i desparetly want us to get Taylor Adams and some hard-bodied mids but it will be much easier to entice him/them to a team with both Hogan and Boyd in the forwardline and Roos as coach!

We need a star midfielder or two... and they too are best picked from the top of the draft.

Judd - Pick 3

Hodge - Pick 1

Pendlebury - Pick 5

Murphy - Pick 1

Thomas - Pick 2

Deledio - Pick 1

Cooney - Pick 1

Goddard - Pick 1

Fyfe? Mitchell? Barlow? Swan? Montagna? Mundy? Watson? All outside of the first round of the draft. Watson was F/S but not rated first round. I agree that everyone seems to be saying that midfielders are easier to find yet Melbourne has done a pretty convincing job of suggesting it's impossible to find quality mids at any point in the draft. The mids are there, we've just got to start finding them.

Also confirmed by Ross Campbell on 3AW (Rumour File) this morning that we would not be getting a priority pick! He seemed pretty adamant.

Well they had better scrap them permanently then.

34 wins in 7 years, we will get a priority pick, the other clubs don't wanna lose money every time they play us, it's just media idiots who don't like the idea having a sook.

He's just following Hutchy's lead.

The AFL Commission hasn't even met on this yet, and I think it would only be decided already, if Demetriou has promised it and will get it pushed through.

Either way, I'm of the opinion that Taylor Adams should be the number 1 priority for MFC in the trade period.

Back on topic, i agree! we certainly need to get that deal done!

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
