Bombers scandal: charged, <redacted> and <infracted>

This morning's 3AW news reported that the AFP were looking into nine (9) AFL Clubs in relation to drug use and that one of these was Collingwood. Bring it on!

That's illiciit drugs, not PEDs. Nothing will happen to clubs other than bad PR.

The process for them to lose players for a stretch is drawn out and hazy.

I was watching a replay of Melbourne V Suns (2012) at the local shopping centre today. A nearby shopkeeper came across and stated with a grin, "You obviously are a Demon fan and at least you can be sure THEY didn't use performance enhancing drugs." No need to elaborate is there?

Apparently that quote was on an early morning breakfast radio programme last week as it was tweetede/text/emailed from "friends" who support opposition Clubs especially the Filth. My reply was simply don't be too smug - early days. My reply to Filth supporters in particular cannot be duplicated here for fear of retribution from our Mods.

I hate the way this issue is tainting the integrity of our great game. I wish it would just 'go away', as much as I wish the whole tanking bull sh!t would go away ........ but of course I know it can't.

Me too Dof

I hate to think what we are leaving our grand children.

The way I feel today makes living the life of a recluse seem attractive

Our old mate Caro said as much the other night that players were exploring legal options if they are found guilty. Most bomber fans I speak to think there is no case to answer and no drama's to come. They truely have their heads not in the sand but up their ass.

Oh yes. And no MFC supporters have held this view regarding our tanking investigation. None at all.

Dank is planning a lawsuit worth 10 million. How can he plan on this when no finding has taken place yet?

I guess he perceives that his "good name"has already been tainted.

On closer inspection you might find that the 9 clubs (or 7, reported elsewhere) are reported to have "vulnerabilities" to organised crime. That's not the same as those clubs being involved in the use of illegal substances. Without naming anyone (and I encourage all posters not to name anyone), I can think of two players who have (or have had) family members in gaol for drug trafficking offences, another who has been in gaol himself for a separate serious offence and a few players who have been reported as frequenting nightclubs with "colourful" identities. I could imagine that all those players would be considered by law enforcement agencies as "vulnerable" to organised crime - but it doesn't mean any of them are necessarily involved in anything illegal or untoward.

In other words, the way it's being reported is a beat up, although those "vulnerabilities" would definitely exist.

Brendan's looking good for the Best & Fairest...are the bookies still making a market?

I love the idea a new level playing field has been created and as long as we're clean and the users are smart enough to have quit then it could equal an extra win or three.

Makes you wonder with the season looming and this going on, it would be interesting if players had to suddenly quit or give up taking any type of supplements due to them being in the 'grey' area.

Could it possibly mean that some players from rival clubs may be suffering withdrawal symptoms early in the season. Could be an easy win come round 2 against Essendon.

Yeah, keep an eye out for any player who suddenly declines in form this year...

It won't be a certainty, but it's always a bit of fun to speculate!

I wouldn't under estimate teams early on.

It will take months for the investigation to reach a head and any teams find they have a large list of unavailable players. It is such a foreign concept that a team be found of doping and players will actually be banned for up to 2 years. Having said that in cycling whole teams have been withdrawn after even 1 member has been found guilty.

How will the ACCC prove the supplements were tainted? Do they have old batches of PED's to test for contaminants or will a retrospective blanket ruling be made about any PED supplement use?

As for the other mystery player I do hope the Age will go after him and his club with the same vigour that MFC has been dusted and Hirdy has been attacked it would be fascinating if, god forbid, it was a Richmond player. How would the Age cope. They do have a habit of sacking individuals before all the facts are available.

I suspect this is why the Pies went public re drugs in sport months ago. a heads up no doubt.

So they try to get in early & make it a broad approach on all clubs to head off the damage to them alone.

These issues have been rolling for over a year as we have heard, with phone taps, parcels intercepted, etc, & charges to lesser known young players.

Footy has nothing to lose to this investigation, but a lot to gain back from it.

I heard from two people that the other player is from Collingwood but I won't mention the name. We will c if it is true soon enough.

This should be Demonland's motto.

It is Demonlands motto, 37 pages of waffle on something that hasn't even been proved as being true yet, hence very little from me, same as the Demetriou topic.........always look if you have posted TU so hence my post, don't be too flattered, at least your posts are normally interesting not that I agree with them all the time

Don't forget to watch The 7.30 Report tonight.

Danks no doubt will deny all but watch his body language closely.

Clues.

So dank thinks that players aren't on drugs but coaches are?

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
