Can anybody out there tell me please why all AFL teams allow this player to run free?

Why not not put some pressure on him?

Is he so fit is he so fierce that there is no player in the whole afl able to run with him. I really dont know why teams allow this guy to get 40 plus disposals every game.

Please tell me.

There was the conventional wisdom that Swan didn't hurt you enough with his possessions and if you were going to tag someone it would be Pendleberry who has also had around 40 tonight or Thomas who seemed to be more effected by the tag.

Swan sure caused a lot of damage tonight, I think if Danger had of been able to run through the middle the Pies would have had something to think about but as it was they had a free run.

I notice on another thread Thompson's name came up to look at as a free agent but his recent form suggests he is on the way out , if he gets a one year contract at Adelaide now it will be a bonus for him.

If he and Buckley don't get on id be happy take him in free agency. teach our boys how to run. Would be a great addition to our midfield for 2 years.

ps he is fa isn't he?

His spread from the contest is amazing. Sometimes it's much too aggressive and frot running but it's often really good. The speed he reads the play at is amazing

When he gets up and running, the only person who could run with him is probably Robert Harvey at his best. Swan is different, ungainly, portly and lots of other things but he is a gun. All those slight criticisms (doesn't kick enough goals etc...) are of little importance when you see him setting up plays, breaking the lines and setting up goals.

He often gets 3 possessions in a short chain. That racks up numbers and does little damage.

Overall is a very good player and he denies the opposition ball, spreads well, and actually has very good delivery when he has time. If oppositions can keep him to the little chips and short handballs then he is much less effective.

Off the boot his kicks often seem to be clangers but they always end up going where intended. Really smart, quick, efficient........ Just an absolute gun. Have never seen anything remotely close to him in my 40 years of watching the Dees in terms of midfield class.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
