The Trade/Draft Rumour Mill

Featured Replies

Being good mates doesnt mean anything.

Buddy left his best mate Josh Gibson.

Scully left his boyfriend Bleasey behind.

The list goes on.

Money and succes talks these days. Taylor Adams will make new friends at collingwood.

Its all part of life now.

That's not what jack Viney says, and the key people in the MFC. They believe his relationship with DT was very important in reassuring him ( DT) that the MFC was a great destination for him.

I think we (the MFC) are in a different position than most other clubs in the AFL because of our perceived "Brand" problem. It requires personal re-assurances from trusted intermediaries to re- assure you you are not going to a basket case. From all we hear about JV, he is a natural and very strong leader, with a burning ambition for the MFC to succeed (like his old man). Along with Roos legendary influencing skills you'd imagine Roos and JV would be a very powerful influence on great young footballers thinking of coming home to Melbourne.

Why could this not work on TA, now that GWS has spat the dummy on the Collingwood deal? It would be the icing on the cake (along with our ND PICK 9) to our trading to build our midfield.

Wow, what a prospect??

I see it as a win-win. Pick 9 (essentially pick 8 due to mcdonald going as F/S to the kangas) will no doubt land us a quality mid which we will use on a build ready to go player like Dom Sheed or Freeman.

However if we decide to use it on Adams and he and GWS agrees to a trade I still would be delighted in seeing him play for us.

Unless he were to fall through to the PSD I don't think the club has any interest in him at all. Mahoney stated after the Tyson trade that we wouldn't be doing anything else with GWS. Frankly I don't want a bloke who doesn't really want to play for us. It's the last thing we need.

Aka Tom Skully.

I agree, but I think it is not as simple as that.there is a real opportunity here to get an experienced highly skilled, motivated mid in the PSD.

It is certainly worth a try...

GWS desperate to get the Shaw deal done - Adams will end up a Collingwood.

What did Jack Viney and the key people at Melbourne say?

Depends which angle of the West Coast/Collingwood deal you look at.

West Coast see it as getting in Yeo for nothing really as with pick 11 they'll still get the guy they want which tells me they have keen interest in either of the West Australians in Sheed or Acres.

Collingwood on the other hand seem keen enough to move 5 spots forward and take their pick out of whoever slips from Aish, Billings, Scharenberg or make sure they get their man whoever that may be.

Not sure Collingwood gave up much to go ahead 5 spots though. While Brisbane might want it so they get something for Yeo, in this draft they'll be lucky to get a player of similar quality with that pick. As far as Collingwood is concerned, not much to give up to ensure they get the 1 they want.

Pick 9 and Blease for adams and pick 20

Then we can snare Jones.

Your sad obsession with Zak Jones is embarrassing.

He's simply not that good to make such a fuss over.

Adams in the psd, please.

Unless we can talk Adams into doing it because he wants to come to us, we won't get him.

Geelong and others will be waiting in the wings with offers if the deal breaks down.

GWS would opt for a trade to get something, rather than let him leave via PSD for nothing.

Our only hope would be them taking the opportunity to send a message to other potentially homesick kids - try to leave on your own terms and we'll send you to a team like MFC or the Saints.

Maybe some pick upgrade action 58 into the 40s, 40 into the 2nd round will be harder to achieve.

Not sure about this, but surely some smart team has been sitting back for a while, but will offer to slightly upgrade on of GWS' picks in return for 2 or 3.

GWS currently has picks 1, 2, 21, 22, 76 and so on.

With GWS needing to shorten their list, I can't imagine them using more than 4, but probably only 3.

Obviously they still have trades to make, but you'd expect them to get maybe a 2nd rounder from Saints for Bruce, and they're obviously trying to get more from Collingwood in a deal for Adams, eg. pick 10.

If I were a club like Fremantle, I'd be offering pick 17 for 21 & 22, or something similar.

GWS won't use all the picks they end up with, so will look to upgrade the ones they do use, no matter how slightly.

Question - don't we have to use 3 picks in the draft? So giving up pick 9 for Adams means we are putting 40, 58 and 74 as our new kids?

Agree to disagree.

That said, whilst I'd like to be proven correct as a keyboard warrior, I hope you're right in that he won't star at Freo.

I reckon he will though. Expect quite a few goals from him from the 50 arc.

If Sylvia doesn't improve his attitude Lyon won't play him,

If he does improve his attitude I will be even more pizzed that he played 10yrs for the Dees and gave us pretty much nothing.

yes, greta point

One option that could be considered if the Shaw swap doesn't go ahead is to offer pick 9 for Adams and get back pick 22 that we gave GWS for Tyson. Of course it all depend on how high we rate Adams with 2 years development against a speculative 18 yr old.

Pick 22 could get us a Zac Jones or a Trent Dumont. We could even offer up Jamar, Jetta or Strauss as a sweetne. This would help free up our list and allow us to use pick 40 and have a PSD selection.,

Almost certain using those later picks on rookie upgrades are counted in the 3 changes required

I don't think GWS are interested in MORE draft picks. Apparently GWS think that Shaw for Adams is insufficient and want a later pick upgrade. The problem is Collingwood is going to trade their 2nd and 3rd rounders in the upgrade 11 to 6 deal. The only pick upgrade Collingwood can offer is 10 for 22 and that's too much IMO. I think ultimately the straight swap gets done.

Caine at 40, KPD at 58 and Clisby upgrade at 74... Easy. But we won't get Adams

I think both Tyson and Shiel are above Adams for mine? One hasn't played many games but both seem like potential game changers whereas Adams seems like a respectable but no frills mid.

Every positive word said by Viney is no doubt countered by Sculldog Millionaire.

That being said id take Adams via trade and low pick.

pock nine has to be used for mine

The Maverick Weller talk has gone quiet. Any chance we might think Cross is no longer needed with the experience of Vince coming on board and we might offer Weller a lifeline?

How is Cross 'no longer required'?

We picked up a replacement for Sylvia and two kids with 14 games experience.

Cross would be more than handy, and he would be cheap.

Easy turbo, just reading into some of Mahoney's comments. He talked about Cross in the same breath as the notion of Net Gain. They may simply see Vince as a replacement for Sylvia and still need another experienced body in the midfield (like Cross) or they may feel we've done ok with the three mids we've already gained. I'd actually take Cross and Weller and delist Nicho or Jetta.

David Mackay has requested a trade from Adelaide.

Was reported on Ch 9 news.

Not sure if he is worth trading for??

Thoughts?

we went for him last year, offering big bikkies.

he signed on with the crows, and then couldn't get a regular game.

pick 54 or bust.

Yep already got Michie and Tyson as guys yet to prove themselves at AFL level. Wouldn't want to add Mackay if it was going to cost us to do so.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
