The Trade/Draft Rumour Mill

Never seen this Lloyd Perris kid before, but I do recall hearing in the last few months how highly he is rated at the Sydney academy.

The Swans will spew if Roos poaches him, but honestly, I think they'll find a way to match whatever he offers.

The kid is from St George after all.

It amazes me that so many are willing to judge the guy without knowing all the facts. It's so easy hiding behind the names you create for this site. Remember, the AFL / VFL is littered with players that have made bad choices in life. Cousins, Gardner, Fisher, Swan, Hall even the great Gary Ablett. Years ago it was Banks and Millane. Martin has made bad decisions for reasons none of us know, but he is an outstanding footballer with a lot more to give. What has happened to him recently maybe just the wake up call he needs.

It amazes me that even though there are clubs like Melbourne, GWS and the Saints, who all need a player of his caliber but reject him coming to their club, that there are still some on here that don't get it.

The associated baggage, poor influences, and potential disruption to the building of a ruthless "team first" attitude are not worth compromising.

It's about long-term culture and discipline, not quick fix answers.

Interesting. Of all the players we let go last year, Bennell's probably been the one I've been most nervous about.

He has class. And pace.

He could've been the type of half back flanker that Roos likes.

yes, but both a change of scenery & culture was needed for a kid like him to adjust & change.

I was in the rookie bandwagon re him, but that wouldn't have given enough of the changes required, imo.

I liked the line in Caro's article today when GWS asked about who he goes to for advice and mentoring, and Dusty began to reel off a list of key Richmond figures...

The kid has raw talent, but needs a lot of help.

He doesn't realise how good he has had it at Richmond, and I think other clubs have begun to realise how much maintenance he will require.

Saw this on SEN.

Melbourne
UPDATED Sep 20:

New Melbourne coach Paul Roos was reportedly spotted having coffee with former Collingwood, Sydney and Melbourne ruckman Darren Jolly last week. Roos could be looking to bring his former charge back to the Demons to add experience to the Dees.

He flagged his intention to put the Demons number two pick and potential priority draft pick on the trading table in the hope of securing a ready-made midfielder.

Inside Football’s Ben Casanelia reported in mid-August that the Dees have reportedly shopped the number two pick for Adelaide midfielder Rory Sloane and Gold Coast young gun David Swallow - http://sen.lu/1d1WNXd

Jolly – 60%
Swallow – 50%

There is a lot to be said for the Roos method of building your list. By sacrificing high picks every now and then, you can get a proven AFL player and you know what you are getting. That way you can build up a strong list and always add youth later in the draft. You miss the so called best young talent, but if it is left to purely drafting, we would have 20 Lucas Cooks.

How about we cut Lucas some slack? He didn't ask for our extremely inept recruiting department to select him with pick 12.

12, and a round or 2 before predicted. Thanks again Barry.

Not true.

Most mock drafts had him going about 10 picks later.

Geez I remember being worried when I heard he was interested in fashion design, but at the time consoled myself that Travis Cloke was the same at the same age, and he turned into a contested marking machine.

I just keep hearing from certain people that we are going to offer the kitchen sink for Rory Sloane and that he wants to come home. Wait and see but remember this post. Roos will want a coupe.

Been reliably informed all of Chapman, Hunt & Corey will be searching for new homes if they don't retire.

Potentially Podsiadly as well.

Edit: no surprises there, obviously.

Would be more then happy to see Chapman & Sloane joining Cross at the Dees next year!

If we trade pick 2, I hope we can get back a mid first round pick in the deal. That would be invaluable in another trade. Sloane is not worth 2 and the Crows would love Aish. Crows don't have early picks to trade back as part of a deal.

If you could convince Adams, Tyson and Miles to come and offered 2 and Jamar, you might be able to get pick 10 back. Clearly 2 is too much for Adams and Miles but would be about right for Adams and Tyson. Maybe another player or later pick from us could be about right.

Oh well, in another month we will know if any of these guesses have come true.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
