Not a chance. First of all he won't be rated that highly and secondly we will no doubt be taking at least one FA ourselves, so the compo will be diluted. Most likely if we take Cross and Sylvia walks it will be seen as an even swap.

That's fine, as far as i am aware Cross qualifies as a delisted free agent and has no bearing on compensation anyway,

his 28 touches, ten clearances game in the prelim will boost him and was ranked around pick 35 before that so it's not a stretch to think he would be around 25 if he has a good game in the grand final, maybe it's a couple of spots early, but well worth it in my opinion.

"He's tough, runs straight, competes, and would eat a footy. He's a little bit mad, so we give him very simple instructions about his role and we let him go."

Absolutely love this

I was not aware that they weren't being counted. Interesting.

The more I hear, the more I like. I would be willing to spend an early second rounder on him, he sounds like just what we need, and I like the idea of the Jones boys playing together- pushing each other, and the sense of brotherhood and unity this list needs.

Get it done MFC or I'll be dissapointed.

I think Todd Viney knows the significance of bloodlines at the club. Hope he moves heaven and earth and wrangles us Zak.

It will be lineball for him to be there at pick 20

If hes there we have to get him. Wants to play with his brother, will bleed for the MFC, is hard as nails and a ball magnet

its a no brainer

We won't take him at 20 because I'm sure other clubs aren't rating him as highly as we are - a lot of you guys are fixated on him because he's chunks brother. He'll still be there at third round.

There are a lot better options second round in my opinion.

I just get the feeling that if we don't "reach" a little for him, some [censored] club like Freo are going to ruin the party by taking him a couple of spots before we get the chance. Anyway obviously in Roos we trust.

Fair enough, I can understand the argument but we should probably go best available at that stage, which I think is not Jones. Obviously might change after the finals.

I fully understand the value of the best available argument, it's something we have been seriously lacking in recent year, but i think in this case drafting on needs should become a serious consideration, this kid will in my opinion be as good as his brother,

watched him play a few times and even his bad games are solid, he doesn't take a backwards step and is able to play well in the middle.

i think around the 30-35 mark is about right for him at this stage so either we trade to get a pick at that mark or we are going to have to stretch,

i do feel pick 20 is going to be for a top line player who slips abit lower than expected, maybe a dunstan, sheed, crouch or freeman might slip that far.

but if we lose Sylvia the compo might be around the right mark?

Yep my spies are even telling me that after last week's game he is most likely a 10-15 pick, which would end our chances. But the Phantom doesn't have him in their top 20, so he may be available at pick 19 for us.

Roos would have already established the high value of Nathan Jones' worth ethic and determination to improve. He'd be we'll aware of the character of his younger brother. Sounds very like his older bro. And Nate would certainly be in his, Viney's and Taylor's ears about Zak. Lets get the job done Dees.

It is a shame that there isn't a brother-brother rule like there is father-son! That we we could grab Dylan as well!

His value is rising by the day- at pick 20 now in Knightmares mock draft- going to us too. Knightmare really does a good job with this kinda stuff. So, 3rd round pick for him definitely out of the question. But, you know what youll get, there will be no 'home sickness' his brothers at the club and a potential captain.. so he will push as hard as any player.

Also, we may be able to leave him in the VFL for a year. With guys like Grimes Terlich and Clisby (assuming he's upgraded as few expect he will be) then we are in no rush to play him straight away.

One more thing. I was reading up on him, and as of late he has shown he can go through the midfield.. I dare say he could very well end up an Atley type and gradually move his way into the midfield.

Oh! I also think it would be a great idea that we all allow him to develop and no one call for him as a spud, to be de-listed etc in his first year, if he is left to develop in the VFL or doesnt have a very strong debut season.

Pick 2- trade for Adams and pick 10

pick 10- Matt crouch

pick 20 - Zac Jones

pick 38 - Trade for Anthony Miles

a much harder midfield.

Not with pick 20 in this draft there isn't.

I have no doubt at all that a quality kid will slip out the first round.

It's an even top 20, from 1-20 it's very even.

I think if we want Jones we need to trade into the 30's.

Posted

The person we take with our end-of-first-round priority pick.

Or Our Sylvia compensation pick.

Or our extra pick in the early 20s received as a balancer.

Or whatever. I like the principle, I'm still bitter about missing out on Grimes for no sane reason, and Zak Jones is a precise match for our needs.

The best thing this club can add in 2014 is culture and spirit, and decisions with a little 'romance' help that, no doubt.

Different draft and different type, but Zak looks a much better prospect than Dylan.

i'll be at the tac cup grand final on saturday as one of my friends is playing for eastern ranges. While i'm there i'll take note of how Jones goes for dandenong.

No room for it.

Either he's good enough to be picked where we want to take him, or he's not.

You don't over-reach to ensure you select him, and in the process ignore a much better player.

Haven't we been burnt enough in the past by selecting lesser brothers..?

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
