Do you have trouble with the concept of "hitting the ground running"?

Craig is already in place.

The playing group wouldn't need to adjust to a new coach.

The coach already has an existing relationship with the players, and already knows the problems with the list and the individuals.

Quite an advantage to his chances, I'd say.

Plus, I've always been a fan of Craig.

Was ecstatic when he came to the club, and if he's not made senior coach, I'm very keen that we still retain his services.

i am certain craig would want his own game plan so they would need to ajust to that, knowing the players is great but he has also been there through the neeld disaster as an overseer, imo that could put doubts in the minds of players.

but i agree we should hang onto him in some capacity

This side has shown little more under Craig than it did under Neeld, and we all know how that turned out.

MFC has completely lost the plot if true and shows an acceptance of the pathetically low standards being currently set.

I think the idea of a Craig with succession plan idea seems mentioned lots. All I heard was that Craig was the favorite and financially made sense. that is unless roos accepts my offer to mow his lawns.

If it's Craig, then he'd better show a lot more initiative than the "more-of-the-same" that he's shown since Neeld left. We need transformation, not "more-of-the-same". Not saying that he doesn't have a new approach and new game plan to what he's shown to date, but he'd better have it. To be fair, he has hinted that if he had the senior coach's job, it would have to be done his way, suggesting that he would want to change things.

And if we chose Eade, Williams and especially Roos, we would surely have a better chance of attracting good trades than if we chose Craig.

Look at the selections each week (even this week Pedersen and Rodan???????????????)

Look at the moves he has made on the field

Not sure how sponsors and members would react to this.

I am worried for the future of the club if he is chosen more so than if Eade or Williams is.

As for "it makes financial sense cause he has a year to run on his contract" stuff well IMO that's irrelevant.

It might be to costly if we keep him as head coach.

IQ, EQ, adjustment and drive are not easily assessed on interview. If fact, if the interviewee has ANY social skills, then you cannot assess these factors validly and differentiate between interviewees based on an interview.

Job history is going to be much the same. Referees will be much the same.

Bet it doesn't happen and we make the same effing mistakes again and again. Trying to get the best people using exactly the same method. The people using it just reckon that THEY are smarter. I understand it but it is profoundly arrogant and insightless. Using the same method but expecting a different outcome was described by someone once...I just can't remember what they said.

Strangely enough the idea of Craig and a couple of assistants from really succcessful clubs doesn't sound that bad to me. If Simpson came over with the view to a succession plan and a we managed a couple other successful ex-players to come on board then it might look okay.

Will it sell hope in the same way Roos would? No, but winning games is the only way to sell hope anyway.

How do you sell hope to players, members, supporters and so on with a coach who only a few weeks ago was beaten easily by GWS? thumped by the Kangaroos by 122 points and seems to have the same sort of defensive mindset as his disaster of a mentor earlier this year.

Selling hope is the first and most important task of the new coach or we will wind up with 15,000 members next year and take another jump backwards

Nothing against Craig but if we just give him the job because Brisbane were sniffing around we have stuffed up this decision bigtime imo, there are better candidates.

I would be thinking the approach taken to a seasoned well proven coach would be quite different to that of someone stepping up.

You wont be assessing all the same way.To do so would suggest you have no real idea of whom youre dealing with.

We can't do much about the fact Neeld was a total ballsup and that made the rest of this year almost a right off, but i found Craig to be very defensive, much like Neeld, when our side is playing it's best it's showing the attacking flair that got the players drafted high up, not flooding the backline and going into damage control at the first opportunity.

and no, Paul Roos is a much different sort of prospect, i don't think his actual coaching Record is that much better than Craigs, craigy could very easily have won a couple of flags but Roos is a culture builder on a whole different level to any of the other candidates.

Eade has built teams from our position to top four teams, more than once, he has done well everywhere he has gone, got the most out of his players, he is obviously the man for the job, infact he was the man for the job in late 2011 when we hired Neeld.

You seem to just take everything you read on here at face value. From believing Roos is a certainty to now believeing that we will make a panic installation of a coach simply because you have read it on here.

Whoever gets the job will most likely - I hope - have to go through the rigorous process that TimD would like to see, and be appointed with the best of faith and intentions to win games of footy.

A caretaker should be given less credit when things go well, and less haranguing when things go poorly.

The only tangible improvement I have seen since Craig has come in is the team works harder offensively, the losses still occur because we are a bad team and that any major structural changes will need a pre-season and confidence.

I don't really believe we will get Craig, i feel while he is a good coach, Eade is a far better option for us, loved his work at the Swans and the Dogs, while he didn't get a flag his system works in terms of building clubs, building young lists and developing players.

of the credentials we are looking for he certainly does

sell hope because he has done it all before

develops players as well as any coach i have ever seen

has a proven track record in terms of working with and developing young teams, installing confidence in a group

plus i think Jack Watts will run if we hire Eade and i've had enough waiting for him to come good one day.

if Roos is still in the running I suspect the biggest obstacle remaining is for him to have the rigth support team assembled. His style of coaching is more presidential style and depends on able assistants IMO. It has been widely discussed that his previous success had a lot to do with the wealth of talent at his disposal like Lyon, Longmire et al to support him.
