Let's not compare the cachet of Roos with that of Choco or Rocket.

Roos has some magic about him, no doubt, you can imagine how many more female members we would get. Sponsors would be easier to land. Players would be more amenable to playing with us.

Whether any of this translates to on the field, would not be guaranteed of course, but you would be at least filled with an optimistic hope, that he could turn us around.

Exactly. Not only that. Roos is clearly the most sought after coach in the land, with 2 clubs confirmed as after him and who knows how many others who might also be keen (eg WC, Essendon). Given his possible option, If he chose to come to Melbourne it would be tremendous endorsement of the club and a sign that he thinks we have a future.

anybody considered the fact that RO"OS wants to go to a club with an average list so his 2 sons will have every chance of being drafted

just saying

Who knows as Dylan did miss out. He was in the same Sydney Swans Academy as Brandon Jack (currently playing for the Swans on the senior list - pick 58 Rookie Draft)

Exactly - PJ basically said that he wanted to create hope (there is a price tag on it)

We need someone who will provide that over the next 2 years (it may take 2 years to start seeing real improvement).

I think Roos will make a huge difference to the membership numbers - if we get a mediocre coach I can't see us getting more than 25,000 members next year.

Not to mention that Roos is probably the best coach and most likely to be able to develop this list and keep players like Watts and Sylvia.

If we can get him - get him (even if it means getting on our knees and begging for more cash from the AFL)

3500+ posts and you think you just come on here for 10 - 15 mins a day. You no time? Thats unfounded!

Look, I'll make one more self-indulgent post.

If you do a quick search, should you feel so inclined, you'll note that this thread is one of only two I've posted in on the main page, which spans 24 threads.

Think what you like chump, but while I scan most or nearly every day, I read and spend little time on here.

Paul Roos funding???

Didn't the AFL mention that the funds we are getting is not for paying for a coach?

I have lost all hope that Roo$ will coach us.

I am just about sick of hearing "at the moment" as I am hearing about the Dons drug saga.

i have money on Roos to coach us but right now i am starting to feel as though he simply will not coach next year, he is smart enough to know unless he is desperate there is no point.

Voss would be a great get as a midfield coach, working along side either Eade or Chocco.

The more I think about it the more I want Chocco as head coach cause I like the way his name sounds when you say it.

There all done. Next

I doubt the Lions would have sacked Voss with just 3 rounds to go if they didn't have their man 26. Might be just a matter of securing support from the AFL for additional funding now. Roos may well have already agreed "in principal" to coaching them, albeit subject to dotting enough i's and lining his pockets with the right amount of folding stuff/contract terms etc.

Maybe they just felt there were better options out there and we were closing in on our man and they wanted to get their hat in the ring before it was too late, Voss didn't exactly set the world on fire.

This is almost like James Hird saying he takes full responsibility...

if you get funding from HQ, it can go into your footy dept spend???

... so if its not for a coach then it can free up money already there, surely, to put towards a coach???

how is it that the Lions were going along OK, then when we were looking at Roos, so publicly, then the lions said they applied as well, for funding around the same time most clubs said they don't want us to get PP assistance.

then the lions IMO saw that Roos was ready to return to coaching & cleverly went to the afl for cash to help fund their new coach changeover. trying to gazump us.

I've got a feeling Roos would like the challenge we represent, but wouldn't like to have the acid of the victorian fishbowl put on his family... Qld & WA would be less of a hassle, re footy, for the family.

this is my biggest concern re our chances.

I tend to agree, however i feel there are things in our favor

we are the great football challenge of our time, he would love that imo

he loves PJ

turns us around he goes down as one of the greats of coaching

he clearly thinks there is alot to work with

we can offer significantly more money than Brisbane can

we haven't pushed out a great to give him his run at the job, West coast would have too, and the Lions already have

Posted

I still believe Roos will coach us......1.5 Mil per year is hard to turn down, and i doubt the Lions could go anywhere near it.

If the president is in place as soon as today we can really step up our chase of Roos

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
