MFC board meeting - 12 PM

Ive been at work all day, can someone please tell me in a nutshell what has happened?

A whole lot of media got to the club pre dawn and wasted their whole day.

PJ has re signed until end of 2014, chip is out of 4 weeks, Neeld will coach against the filth.

That's about it.

This is absolutely disgusting from the board. They have truly shown themselves to be spineless and indecisive. The club needed a statement today, and instead we get indecision. We needed them to come right out and say that Neeld was safe in his job and they have faith in the process. Instead they continue to sit on the fence and fuel the media parasites swarming the club. They could not have chosen a worse path to take out of this meeting. Bring on the AGM and let's get a board who are willing to stand up and speak for th eclub.

Why. The easiest thing to do would have been to bay to media and supporter unrest. It would also be wrong to put out a limp statement that he is safe when in fact he may be gone in 4 weeks. It appears we have taken stock to ensure the right decisions are made. Doubt this would have happened 6 weeks ago. Being that his normal 30 minute board presentation went for 90 I would think he is clear in the expectations on him to retain his role or where its at. Just because it didn't happen today doesn't mean that things haven't occurred.

the sun came up, now it has gone down. People got paid for going to work. I believe we had a gust of wind today. The mail man turned up with some bills. ABC radio in Hobart are still confused as one of their heads fell off. Tomorrow is Tuesday. We still have a Labour government running the country.

that was a non event really, driven by the media frenzy. The meeting went a little longer, we found out pj is with us till 2014 and that is all

It was the media that did all the hype and build up. As Neeld said this was a scheduled board meeting no different to any other one. The board never came out and said what would happen in it. The media got caught up in the excitement of getting to report a sacking of another coach.

Im glad we stuck fat. An interim coach would had been pointless. Unfortunately the scrutiny will be on him until we actually do something on field.

But its funny how Neeld kept telling the media im not expecting to be sacked, its just another board meeting.

At least you have to give him some credit for fighting for his position and facing the media. He has more guts than me. If I was coach of that club id throw my hands up and walk.

Aside from signing PJ to an extension and making the media look like idiots, I can't say I'm overly happy with the outcomes today. I honestly felt it was time for a decision. You either back him for the year or you say it's done, now we are right back in limbo and only a good competitive result week to week will prevent another media s-storm.

I used a lot of internet time today for no outcome one way or the other.

Let's give this a couple of weeks and see what these proposed changed Jackson is going to make. Neeld will almost definitely be one of them but today was not the day to feed the huge pack of vultures who were salivating outside.

It would be idiocy to sack Neeld at this time of the season. I doubt whether any other coach in the AFL would do any better. Sheeds has shown how hard it is to win with a young under manned list. If Neeld was sacked and the new coach did not do much better (doubt anyone could) the board would be laughed (seen as proof of incompetence by the media) at and the club a further say $600K + down after the payout and remuneration to the interim coach. Coaches are usually sacked late in the season. This way the interim coach does not have enough time to completely stuff up and show that the board that it really was not the sacked coaches fault after all.

This was all media driven.

not as much as me but

Your butt is stressed? Not sure that I wanted to know that ...

Hasn't the media nicely sucked you all in....

i stick by what I said prior to the meeting ceasing....it was the same old Monday board meeting expect pumped up by the media

It's a win win win.

MN knows he has to improve, has a chance and knows where the club and his contract stands.

The club has shown that this standard is not acceptable and wont be.

The players know the fate of their coach, time to back him and incentive to improve.

Personally, I think its a good move. Shame about the media hype and them trying to put a negative spin on it.

Also the ABC is a joke. How could you get it so wrong so early? I'd like to see how they came to their conclusion, particularly if Barrett (*shudders*) got it in the morning/last night.

We will not move forward while Neeld is coach. We will not start healing until Neeld is gone. It sounds like they have decided Neeld is going but have not put a transition plan in place and only now are they working on this plan. This is not good enough, a transition plan should have been worked on since round 2.

Or it could be they are giving the media nothing. Me thinks GNF has an axe to grind.

Ah good to see stability at the MFC and another 100 point loss coming on Monday. This will do our chances of retaining the QB fixture an enormous boost!

Oh the joy!

My take on this:
I still believe Neeld needs to go but....

Process needs to be followed. I don't know what is going on behind the scenes. Have they warned Neeld that the path he is currently on is unsustainable? I hope they have but we will never know. If anything, this shows at least they are 'trying' to follow proper procedure.
On face value, I still believe this bloke needs to go but we cannot have another Dean Bailey situation. 186, as pathetic as that was, was poorly managed. Sure, DB wasn't going to get his contract extended after that but the fact that the board was spooked into keeping Cameron Schwab on showed how amateurish they were. At least this time, they are following a procedure (I think).

It does go to show though how big a [censored] Damian Barrett is. Apparently both Don and Neeld were gone today. Neither one has gone and the only thing he got right is that PJ is staying on longer than expected. Football writers have now become gossip columnists, pure and simple.

NAIL . ON . HEAD .

Football writers have now become gossip columnists, pure and simple.

Don't forget... They "set the agenda" and are the "best newsbreakers in the business"!

In reality, they are now reliant on the fact that the volume of news in todays world washes away their falsehoods.

A caretaker is going to change the result?

Some of you are kidding yourselves that Peter Jackson is Superman and can and will do no wrong - and many of the same people are convinced that our plight is wholly the fault of Neeld and he were just 'gone' we would suddenly recapture a form we haven't seen for years and a consistency we haven't seen since Daniher.

Let's inject some reality into this shall we?

With or without neeld we are going to lose nearly every game. A caretaker won't make miracles happen but we suck so bad that they couldn't do a worse job.

It's just the start Adam. Money, Picks, Fixture, love.

I completely agree. You've mentioned numerous times that you believe we're in bed with the AFL. Right there with you and thank goodness for that.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
