Here.

A player cannot be traded anywhere without his permission. He has to sign a contract the new club, without agreeing.

Just as a player can say "trade me to x because iwant to go there for money/success/family/coach or I walk for nothing and try my luck in the psd" a club can say "we are trading you here because they are offering us a better deal or you can try your luck in the draft."

You need to use the words in context, I agreed that it was imprcatical.

For the third time show me where it is written?

The point being that the trades are and should be a negotiated outcome between the parties involved.

The Adams and Caddys of this world are very much forcing the negotiations in the players favour completely.

It makes the concept of Free Agency a crock and with it the concept of equalisation.

I believe we are in agreement, except for your insistence that a club is obliged to accept a player's nomination of club and your insistence that somewhere it is "written".

I believe you're right in a way.

As I understand it the player can only choose if their contract is up and they can walk for nothing if the club don't get them to the club of choice.

If they're half way through a contract, it's either go where you're told or stay and play in the 2's.

Moloney didn't want to be traded to us.

That's incorrect.

If you ask Moloney himself, he says that he didn't want to be traded... until he found out it'd be to MFC who he supported growing up.

I sit corrected.

I sit corrected.

Of course, that's also a very convenient story for a bloke talking to MFC supporters.

He was happy at Geelong, but I also don't think his career would've lasted there.

They had better players and he was prone to getting himself into trouble.

Not too different to young Dusty, but had better role models around him.

Not really - with FA the player walks for nothing (diluted compo picks notwithstanding) with a trade the club gets something back.

And i came on here hoping to read a bit more about Dylan Shiel.

Frustrating istn it

Yeah but players are picking the better clubs which then dilutes the trade value. If Taylor Adams said his preferred club was Melbourne on the saints then GWS could have discussions involving picks 2 and 3. Instead he's gone for Collingwood and Geelong and the best they can do is pick 10.

It's a joke. You've made it to the AFL. You've been drafted, then after 2 years you think you've earned the right to pick which club you play for just because you want to go home.

I don't like it. It's disrespectful to the club who drafted you. You should take all offers from all clubs and if they all want you go to the one that will trade the most for you.

good point mate. I get sent all over the place and don't get a say, it's called a job and I want to get paid. I think the NBA just trades you and that's it. It's not for ever.

Totally agree, and it's not even a boyhood dream style 'I always went for the Dees as a kid' or whatever, just 'I think I could get instant success there, let's do that.' Makes me sick.

Blame the clubs.

They are the ones agreeing to trade a player to his favoured destination.

But remember, tough negotiations can lead to problems in the distant future.

St Kilda are in no better onfield position than MFC, but why does there seem to be a perception that MFC is a less desireable destination..?

Maybe something to do with the way we have treated departing players in recent years?

The names in charge of the footy dept change, but for some the stigma remains.

As a Melbourne supporter I totally agree, as a neutral observer can you blame any if them for giving us a wide berth. We haven't just been crap on field for 7 years our off field has been a debacle, there's cultural issues and our development of talented kids has been trash. The way out is to draft and develop our own kids and hope that by the time guys like Trengove, Grimes and Jones are in their 30's they have created a good environment for the kids in the intervening years to develop as players will actually want to come play for us. There are no quick fixes here.

Player managers perceptions have a big influence here too, as they would be advising their clients.

It's something we'll have to work hard to change, but it will change.

but Al, these guys are contractors!!! their CaCa doesn't pong. no wonder they want 4 interchange & no tackling, & paid over $200000.00 a year from year 3.

The romantic in me kids himself into thinking that there is a player or players out there who can see the opportunity in being an integral part of the rebirth of the MFC. Someone who history would look upon favourably as taking a punt on the lowly Demons and helping to lead them out of the ashes.

The reality of course is very different.

I honestly thought Roos would be a big enough drawcard to get the Crosses and Shiels over the line but it would seem not, at this stage.

Let alone the extra 6000 odd members to help pay his salary and other redundancies.

sorry for starting it :)

Dylan ... 4/yr deal at $500, 000 a year. Lets see GWS match that.

thwy will match it easily

Cross is a delisted FA, for which trading opens on November 1. Referred to by Mahoney.

As for the rest, not sure what part of "Trade period ends Oct 25" isn't clear. Things will only start happening later in that last week, especially the tough deals. And Pick 2 for xxx is going to be a tough deal.

U still going on about that. I want to know which BGS lad beat you up and snaked your girlfriend.

You have one mighty chip on your shoulder about that one chief.

I'm same sex attracted.

You fvcked that one up, chief.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
