Mitch Clark has been remarkably accurate shooting for goal for the Demons.

BUT..........I'm fearful that he will not continue to kick so straight. He has a marked hook-foot ,swinging across , rather than through, the ball. So far the timing of his connection with the ball has been excellent, and the ball has flown straight. There is very little margin for error.

I hope like hell I'm wrong, and I pray we'll get 25 games out of him this year!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aTTIm5ys78M

He kicks a number of great round the corner snaps because he doesn't have time to straighten - which is fantastic.

But when he kicks a set shot - like at 2:00 in that video he kicks straight through the ball - best goal kicking action since Garry Lyon at his best.

Thanks for that, 55. It was great watching that. I'd forgotten just how dominant he was in that early part of the season. He really is a player that can grab the game by the scruff of the neck and we don't have too many of those. Let's hope he gets the most out of his body next season.

Hindsight is a beautiful thing. Doubt they would've done that trade anyway.

We need to get in his management's ear and discuss how open our salary cap is now without Clark. Need this kid at the club, he's a gun.

He's a class player with a bit of grunt. I remember watching him for the first time in the NAB cup this year. He was continually kicking goals from outside 50 while winning plenty of ball. Would be a great addition to our midfield.

Wow. That's depressing.

And not much has changed. Would still love Shiel.

I've been thinking a lot lately about the new franchises. When they first came in, I thought they'd take all the talent and everyone else would be left with nothing. That's still true to an extent, but it may come full circle. Given they're both interstate franchises, with little support, it's a lot easier to convince a lot of them (mainly Victorians) to come back south. The franchises put two or three years into them and then clubs like the MFC (with lots of money due to a dearth of talent) can come along and offer big bucks, game time and Melbourne (the city). We wouldn't have been able to develop that talent if there was no GCS or GWS anyway, so it might just work out for us.

Shiel is top of my list, but think we also need to look at another ruckman - possibly throw some coin at Clarke from Fremantle. More players who can rotate through the middle also needed but I have faith in Roos, Viney, Stone and the FD knowing exactly what they are looking for

The best hope for us this year is for GWS to remain a bottom feeder club that we can keep taking developed players from. They seem happy enough to keep taking our high draft picks and topping up their future super stars via the draft, in exchange for losing some of their better players.

Pick 3 (Frawley compo) for Shiel please. Trade our pick 2 for another developed player + lower first rounder, ala last year with Tyson.

Would love us to get Shiel, seems to be struggling for games at GWS or is he injured? Also thanks for bumping this thread the last couple of pages provided a few laughs. I stand by my comments that Howe isn't much chop, is one dimensional and we should have looked at trading him when we could get something decent back. Just like we should've shopped Jamar around 2-3 years ago and kept Stefan Martin (who isn't much either but we would have got more for Jamar than we did for Martin).

Shiel's a beauty isn't he.

But I think we'll persist with Spencer, Gawn, Fitzpatrick & King, with Jamar retiring, & we'll recruit in another big bodied aging ruck, to replace Jamar.

Our real needs are our running brigade. we need better players here. And more key position players.

If we could talk Frawley into it, a trade to GWS for either Shiel, or Lachie Plowman + lesser pick, would be good. I know he's a free agent, but if he signed on?

I'd like to keep Chip, but if not, this would be a good alternative.

I'm still open to trade Howe for Shiel. Howey would be massive for the Giants to drag crowds in.

Frawley won't want to go to GWS. If he goes, it'll be to a contender. I'd back us to keep him at this stage though.

As will I.

A Frawley compo pick may do it though, if it were to secure GWS a top shelf defender like a Durdin or Lever.

Mind you, it'd be exactly what we'd need to draft too, to adequately replace Chip...

all the talk is, if true? that his management are mainly after the biggest $$$,$$$.00

If true, IMO GWS would be very interested, with a healthy bank account. If he wants success he better go North to the Gold coast for his last 5 years. they'll need a Key defender & aren't that far off being a genuine top 6 side. They're ready for finals, If they can keep it together.

I reckon Frawley'll stay, so might need to look at an alternate avenue to getting Shiel. Or wait until he comes out of contract and offer him $600,000ish.

lol... Frawley wont stay... Roos has him playing up forward so our defence can practice without him... He is as good as gone...

Frawley is likely to go the Cats. They will have some retirements and $$ available. Chip is a country boy at heart.

Geelong will not pay him what he is asking, they have the right balance across the board and to think he would command more than Stevie J, Bartel, Kelly, Harry Taylor etc is just ridiculous.

They will maintain their players taking less money to keep the strong culture and will be strengthening that thought process even more given what is occurring up at Sydney

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
