WTF has he got against coming to the Demon's anyway?

Young punks calling the shots nowadays like they've been in the game for ten years.

I think it's a fair call.

It's no different to a businessmen wanting to work at the best firm possible.

If he wants to break a contract so badly GWS will tell him he can only go to the club with the best offer. Pick 2 will probably be the best offer, they can then work out how to on trade the damn thing for some mature players.

I think they may just say "NO" to show the other players you just can't walk out. They may not get as good an offer if he does go later but the statement to the rest of the list is strong.

It's vastly different.

It's all about getting some runs on the board in an organisation. Some employees' want to do the hard yards to make a difference to a struggling project whereas other shiny-arses move to the cream-jobs for instant gratification.

The competition is full of shiny-arses.

I actually really want to trade pick 2 for Shiel. Not only is he powerfully built for contested ball winning capabilities, but can also win the ball and be damaging on the outside, explosive runner and can take the game on whilst kicking goals. Having to pick up one of Aish or Kelly will be another young player that will take a while to develop, where as Shiel I believe even though he is still young will have an immediate impact within our midfield.

We all do, it's universal.

IMO It would be a steal.

Or they may make an example of him, by trading him to MFC as opposed to his desired destination...

Then he'll have a decision to make won't he. He can go to MFC or stay at GWS, it would be his choice.

He may well stay until he's uncontracted an then try again.

Actually it could go the other way, they need more kids to sign.

More kids would sign for the GWS if they didn't believe that they'd be 100% locked in to stay there.

If Shiel wants to come home, they'll let him.

At this rate it doesn't look like we will be getting anyone.. Carlton are now really interested in Cross.. Seriously.. What happened to the "Roos will make the Dees a much more attractive place to go". Everyone is just snubbing us. It's pissing me off.

Carlton are trying to make it look like they are interested in everyone to get good deals.

They won't take both Chapman and Cross.

They want Brisbane and Hawthorn to know they're interested in both Docherty & Savage, but may only trade for one.

Competition = better result for Carlton. In theory.

They are covering their bases and I wouldn't believe any of the rumours of preferred destinations.

It's more likely than not Carlton people using their contacts to spread rumours, in an effort to influence the process.

Relax. Once things start moving, either we'll be in front, or we'll be able to see where the holes are.

Just for you we will go out and give our picks away for players that aren't worth it. It will make you happy because we have a trade. There is no point trading for the sake of trading, the club isn't going to trade if it can't get the right deals. We forget two years ago we got Clark, last year Dawes along with a deal that saw us get Hogan, Barry and Jack Viney for a second round pick.

If we can't get the right players in a deal that works for all parties I'm happy to go to the draft with pick 2, 20, 21, 39 and so on. If we don't get a deal this year we work hard for next and hope that under Roos our current players stay fit and improve.

We still have 16 days of the trade period to go, just calm down don't believe everything you hear or read, relax and assess our clubs trading performance in 16 days.

The only way I see this working out is if Shaw ends up going to Geelong and GWS see Scharenberg as their half back general (I see guys like Plowman and Davis as keys rather than organisers) and would pick him up at 2. Even with Adams leaving I don't think they'd be losing out too much with another mid going - they have heaps of them.

Personally I think he'd be a good get, but we'll be waiting right to near the end of the trade period before any movement.

I dont mind if we don't get trades done.. It would be just nice to hear that players are interested in coming. And Roosy is supposed to have 'that effect' .. But so far, every single player we've shown interest in.. Including Dylan Shiel. Have snubbed us. Its just frustrating.

Agreed, I won't be super disappointed if we go to the draft with 2 but I'll leave it up to the people in the know to decide who to draft as I have NFI

me to, I haven't followed it at all over the last 2 years, no U-18's games.. & this year I'm not even reading phantom drafts or any other information. just demonland. thats more than enough.

Have they? Or has the media portrayed it like that?

And their managers are publicly claiming that, because if a trade doesn't get done and they stay, they don't want their client to become public enemy number 1 for the supporters?

Alternatively, aren't we aiming for absolute gun players with pick 2?

Ones that are presumably happy at their existing clubs?

I mean, we're trying to pry a young kid out of a system they have now settled into.

They are resilient and they are of good character, otherwise we wouldn't be targeting them.

Those very traits make their first instinct not to run away when it gets hard, but to dig in.

So should be surprised that its difficult to pry them away?

Think about it.

Horribly digressive, but I can't wait until Prestia is OOC again. Go hard demons. The next Brad Sewell, but more dynamic.

GWS are playing hard ball, and who can blame them

the guy is a jet, they have developed him for two years and he is their hardest midfielder on a team devoid of hard bodies

WOuidnt surprise me if we had to give up more than pick 2

If Giles leaves as has been rumoured, ide give up pick 2 and one of Jamar/Spencer for Shiel.

id want a middish first rounder back then...otherwise id buy that.

They'd probably just laugh in our face. If they get Mumford, I don't think they'll be wanting a struggling ruck man as well. If they don't get Mumford, they still won't want a poor quality ruck man.

We have much more of a chance with just pick 2.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
