Has anyone noticed.....

Recommended Posts

Has anyone noticed that a core group of players such as Matt Jones, Nathan Jones, Terlich, Garland, Howe, Gawnanator, Grimes, Viney,tMac and Tappy are starting to build a good core group. Oh and i forgot, especially Colin Sylvia, the guy has now put in a complete start to the year (except for the bombers game, which we all got obliterated).

This core group, plus Clark, Dawes, Toump and Hogan to come in can actually make Melbourne into something. I seriously am confident that this can become our future.

We may not be classy yet, but With Matt Jones and Nathan Jones these two ball magnets can lead us.

Note have left out Watts andTrengove as i am really confused to the way they have been going lately, quite disappointed actually

Strangely I am feeling rather optimistic, just viewed need's presser and felt what he was saying was on the money, trengrove still getting over a foot injury and hopefully dawes in next round.

The clearest thing for me from todays game is Jamar should not play again unless Gawn and Spencer are both injured.

notice i didnt include Jamar in that core group.

I'm so happy with Sylvia though, that goal today is starting to show his effort.

He's a gun

I did notice. I wouldn't even play him ahead of Fitzpatrick. Time to create a new culture on the field of blokes not mired in defeatism.

He does it every time his contract is up for renewal, I'll believe it when he puts 2-3 good years together.

I can honestly say i had no idea just how good terlich and matt jones would be right away, both are certain starters in our best 22!

Has anyone noticed...that Richmond is ninth again?

But Mark Jamar has been way better than Jake Spencer's game today.

He has been Chook. There's no denying that. And he's been a great servant for the club. But we've seen his best and it no longer warrants a walk up start. I do believe the others will surpass him.

How can anyone really be pleased with Sylvia? He butchered the ball. Didn't get a kick up forward then went loose in defence and hardly starred.

And please Spencer? What a shambles of a football. He provides nothing of use. The one time he wins a clear hit out he puts it straight down Garletts throat leading to a Murphy goal.

He could be better than Jamar at centre bounces but is horribly out matched by anyone around the ground. I'd never play him again it devalues the jumper for someone to show such little aggression or spirit. A few chases for the sake of it but really whats the good.

I think it shows the power of mature aged recruits!

He has actually put a good 3/4 of a year together now and is playing good footy. I believe he is going to hit a new gear now as Grimes is out and a midfield position is going to open up. What is even more encouraging is that he is not just getting a few possessions he is kicking goals each week.

Let those others be combinations of Gawn/Clark/Pedersen even. But not Spencer. We lament Jamar's effective hitouts but they still are much better than Warnock giving Carlton mids silver service.

There are roughly 8-10 midfield positions open at Melbourne every week! Sylvia is still not running hard enough or winning contested ball well enough to be cemented in the worst midfield in the league. He's a flanker with nice ability to get up the ground and turn back. Of course he kicks goals, thats what happens when you burn 4 open team mates and wheel on to your left from 50 out. It's all continued poor discipline and team footy.

I think we should rotate the 3 of them throughout the season, there will be times when Gawn, or Spencer, or Jamar, need a rest.

Next season I think the Russian may have a problem getting many games, if injuries stay away.

that is complete shower.

He is one of the only ones that is explosive enough to do that at Melbourne.

Dont take that for granted

We just dont have enough pace.

We cant affordto leave blease out every week, and Jetta hasvtp come back in and stay in.

Ill say t again as i do every week.

McKenzie is NOT an AFL level player.

Turned it over by foot, struggled to keep his feet and went missing for large patches. Still fails to dominate his opponent consistently for four quarters. Not a gun. Not a gun at all.

While he does have a long way to go i think his start to the season has been a lot better. He is starting to show a bit of consistency. His chase on Yarran was fantastic, he just needs to learn to do that every time.

I have noticed this with our group. You can add a few guys who are quietly going about their business at Casey, getting some successive games in for the first time in their careers and playing together as a unit. They are also executing the gameplan better then the senior side from all reports. We should start to see a few more of these players filtering into the side and pushing for a regular spot as the year progresses and then next year Hogan gets to join them, having already built a good understanding with a number of his teammates at Casey. Despite the fairly horrible season we're having, I do have a degree of optimism. I just think it may not happen this year.

The clearest thing for me from todays game is Jamar should not play again unless Gawn and Spencer are both injured.

Spencer was killed all over the ground. He didn't have the physical presence to stand up to Warnock and Hampson. Jamar isn't in AA form anymore, and he struggles to be the mobile link man around the ground, but he can at least hold his own physically. Spencer didn't have any more possessions than Jamar and was far less use in the ruck.

Watch about 5 minutes before that goal in the last. when he spills a low chest mark, gets up walks and bangs his hands together in frustration. His opponent got up, was running straight away got a handball receive (at which point Col started chasing some 10m behind) and had a comfortable clearance. A disgusting effort to say the least.

He was average yesterday, after a good few weeks but efforts such as the one highlighted sum Col up and is why he will never reach his potential and should never be in the leadership group.

wow a new contender for worst comment I've ever read

whatever you do, don't kick a sensational goal, the supporters don't like it

anything else to add, perhaps Jeremy Howe should be dropped for using teammates as stepladders for awesome grabs

That was the one in ten that actually comes off. Sylvia wasted so many opportunities today by trying to take on all comers. He's not superman, and he needs to realise that sometimes the best thing to do is the first thing to do.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
