Suggestions of moving the Dee's to Tasmania

don't see problem with it really...if we could get 20K to a game and turn it into a Vic Park type intimidation then cool....plus its fairly cheap to get to Tassie to see the games.....i could also visit family...... they could sell double headed beers and pies

Yep I think we should've looked into the Hobart deal. It's not as profitable as the Darwin or Hawthorn's deal but I think it would've been easier to win games and please the main supporters.

There was a similar article by David Penberthy in the Murdoch rags 2 Saturdays back. Not sure who he is or who was behind the story but Tasmania cannot sustain a team in its own right.

WE could become the Hobart Van Demons, keep our playing strip but adjust the red to a map of Tassie, get draft concessions, cash, maybe even a couple of decent midfielders. 12 games at the MCG, 12 in Tasmania. Tassie isn't a big enough market to matter, it's split between the North and South which adds costs and lowers crowds, the population already follows footy so there is no long term ratings boost from conversions, and existing clubs are milking it for about what is the most you could get out of it.

Now if that island was bigger, and played rugby, then the AFL would be eyeing them off, but a NZ push is many, many years away.

The Melbourne Demons must never relocate, when we start winning consistantly we have the compacity to become the next Victorian powerhouse club with our aliance with the city of Casey.

There is so little desire to do anything in Tassie. The AFL have the Hawks and now the Kangas milking that cow. There is no market left to tap - there is no advertising to sell - it's already sold, there is no sponsorship money - the Hawks have it.

It's not happening.

Once we arrive as a permanent team it's North's and the Hawks who's sponsorship will dry up. They will leave when we arrive. It'll be part of the deal.

It's a fairly romantic idea for him, still have a team named after the sporting capital of the world, whose nickname is that of the animal that everyone world-wide thinks about when talking about Australia. The international marketing the AFL could do with this is massive, especially given that we already have a face for the marketing in Jeremy Howe, as his leap is like, well, you know...

Not going to happen. The last time they merged/ relocated a club was Fitzroy and they had been undergoing financial troubles much worse than ours with a very small membership for decades. We clearly need to get our act together on the field but the current problems are manageable as we have dedicated members and a good core support of 19-20k at matches and about 30,000 members. Despite our horrible run of late we still have the support and the stadium to make a good go of things on our own without any need to merge or relocate. Any journo who says otherwise is attention seeking
