Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Time to release Trengove as Captain and let him realise his full potential as a B-Grade midfielder

Today was his 64th game, he is coming off a very serious injury, clearly underdone and a massive off field distraction and those are the factors we know of.

he has had what 17 touches 10 tackles i'd say that's acceptable

the biggest problem is we expect him to play like a 164 game player, he isn't it's a big effort to be out there at all

Not where i'd like him to be as a footballer either but to say he is deserving of the comments that are being made about him is insane.

Your dancing around the major issues like a bad politician.

The fact remains he's struggling and he's an integral part of our side,

It says a lot about the state if our club, which is what i take outbid the OP's

slant. Martin, Rohan, Cunnington , Fyfe, are making hay in less than

Impressive football sides.

10 tackles is all well and good, quality possession along with that is better.

It isn't there and not is our midfield.

I am struggling to see what attributes he brings that will make him great.

I think his overhead marking for his size is something he excels at, but besides that, I would say he is below par in all other areas.

He isn't really a great clearance player or have speed to spread on the outside, so I am left wondering what is it that will make him great for us?

I don't rate a lot of what Mathews says, but his one comment I do agree with is what has happened to the player we had in season one, where has his leg speed gone. It's not just leg speed that's at issue now it's decision making when he has the ball, this wasn't a problem in his first season. It's not that he was lightning quick but he could cover ground and use the ball well.

Unfortunately the FD and coach seem married to the idea of him as captain and it just may not be the right thing. What are they going to do? nothing of course. It would prove them wrong and you can't have that.

I hope Jack has some really good advisors outside of the club that he can trust, who is his manager? He needs to work out what is the right thing for him and if that's stepping down then he should no matter what the club say. A kid who is just making his way in football doesn't need this pressure but if his people (not the club) say it is not having an adverse effect then he should stay the course.

From the outside looking in it seems to be effecting his football and we need him to develop into the player he is capable of being and that's not a B-Grade mid.

The club is going no where in a hurry with Grimes, Trengove and McKenzie in the midfield.

They don't have the bodies to compete as inside midfielders, nor the skills or pace to hurt the opposition on the outside.

They are just good ordinary players.

Grimes is an attacking halfback that can rotate through the guts when required but should not be a permanent mid.

Trenners is not currently the player we had hoped for weather that's captaincy, injury/fitness or skill set I don't know. I still have faith in him for the future.

McKenzie is a stopper and that's it. His disposal is just crap.

The captaincy appointments were a bloody awful decision but its done and they'll stick with them for at least this year. We need our experienced guys to stand up this year and support the jacks.

Trengove is an excellent choice for co-captian and I think will be of the best players (most inflential in winnig) in the league in the next 5 years. He does the team things, is tough, works hard is consistent and can be relied on to lift in key moments. As the team improves he will look better.

A real positive I took from today about our direction is Silvias work rate. I think this is a reflection of more acountable culture.

Delist. Bad draft pick. Their is nothing that he has shown to indicate he will be an AFL standard player. Slow, poor kick, can not kick long, poor awareness and uninspiring as a teammate. He was never seen as a high draft pick until late in the national championships, and Melbourne got caught up in the hype of his SANFL finals game. He was an early developer that could play well against jouniers or state players, but not up to it. Can't believe he was gifted the captaincy as a marketing play, embarrassing as a club. Should not play AFL again, cut the loses and move on.

What a load of over reaction crap. Drip.

Trenners is the least of our worries being only 21 years of age, no pre-season, average 16-20 disposals per game with 6 tackles and generally quite a reliable goal kicker.

Next topic please...

As a fourth year midfielder, regardless of draft pick, he is below average. To think that he was pick number 2 and gifted the captaincy is shocking.

Trengove is dud and a spud. There is no way this guy deserved to be a number two draft pick. He is a joke player. Jack watts looks lost on the field except when he goes forward when he can slot goals. Grimes needs to stop kicking the ball direct to the opposition. We need our 2 tall forwards back desperately. Hopefully we can trade well at the end of the year.

Point being, where do you rate him in the competition as an onfield leader / performer / inspirer? Is it the long goals, the gut running, the run down chases, the pack marks, the smothers... or maybe the blistering bursts through the centre... What is it that you see that I don't that see that grants his captaincy... I have no doubt he's trying hard. His performances at press conferences are second to none.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to
