I dont think we can reproduce the momentum of last night - but any extra hands will be appreciated & u will enjoy the inner club spirit.

We also welcome those who dont want to do the phoning.

Sit, chat, absorb the process, get coffees & bask in the bucks being drawn into our club. Ask for me - 19

Gee that "Ask for me - 19" gave me a flashback to a long forgotten incident in Amsterdam in the 70's

Gil scott heron RIP

Not wishing to steal Nineteen's thunder but we re-signed 40+ members tonight.

And a lot said they will be renewing

Rangey me old chum, looks like your revolution will not be televised (a bit of musical trivia for the buffs)

Also got your PM, not sure what my ice skating ability has to do with anything, can you explain

Also shook Mark Neeld's hand this time.

We should get a reasonable crowd on Saturday. keep the faith, stay together, we will get out of this hole we are in

We are phoning again tonight (Tuesday) & will struggle to reproduce the momentum of last evening - but will give it a go.

Any & all welcome. We encourage non-phoning volunteers who can sit, absorb, encourage & handle coffees. Give it a go.

C u tonight.

Coming in on the train [Monday] I figured for maybe 5 volunteers .... & two would be crying before the night was out - I was going to be one!!

Arrived after 5.30 to a meeting area full of volunteers, plus two in club colours. Saw Mark Neeld & Neil Craig in the group & turned around thinking wrong office. But it was us. Mark & Neil really mixed into the group [team' photo will be posted] & boosted our project.

Punch & Judy wanted to sing the song, but fortunately .........

The night took off from there & we achieved 40 sign ups - nearly best for the year. Great under the circumstances.

Three new volunteers joined 'in our darkest hour' & Catherine, Cheryl & Dave did beautifully.

Tim, Julian, Geoff, Pete, Judy, Michael & Anne made up the quorum.

My feel is that many volunteers & supporters have traditionally been sitting on the fence. These 'dark cloud days' have shuffled the balance to the extent that we have many more deciding now is the time to sign &/or volunteering. [No doubt the despair group has also grown]. The net benefit is our group is stronger & growing.

Tx to Mark & Neil for coming along & genuinely getting involved.

Great night folks - well done. Lets go again.

Great work guys & girls!!

Dave, as you saw and heard, none of us pulls punches as to what is happening or has happened, but it's take bottle to make a stand

you're doing a great job mate... and love that Gil Scott Heron reference.

Will be there tonight, dusting off the telemarketing skills I learned as a uni student to try and entice a few Dees to re-sign. In those days, if I wasn't meeting target, I'd just ring family members to bump the numbers up. Guess that's not going to cut the mustard tonight.

I'm presuming we enter through Gate E for a 5.30pm start?

My son got his on the Thursday before the Port Game but mine wasnt in there, i will Pm you now.

Mine and my sons all came in the one package. Id check with your son he may have your stickers???

We should be hearing about this in the Press instead of those booing, spitting supporters. But of course we won't.

Email from the club FYI

Hi Geoff,

I can’t thank your team enough for the work you’ve all done recently!

As you’re well aware we’ve had some amazing results, but I think last night’s effort takes the cake. 40 membership in tough times is a magnificent result.

Below I have listed some figures for you on what has come of all the hard work people are putting in. Please feel free to publish these as people, particularly the volunteers who are putting their hands up every week, should know how well they’ve done.

  • Total membership sales 314 (46 in one night still the record)
  • 2830 calls have been made over the 9 nights we’ve had.
  • A total of $42,701 has been made over these 9 nights which is an amazing result
  • 22 volunteers have come in over the course of the last few weeks, with a few yet to make their debut

As these figures suggest, the results have been incredible. Terrific, Tom.

Didn't know where to post this but it seems appropriate here

Went to the physio this morning....Checked in and went to sit in the waiting room....As I sat down I was approached by an 8 year old who asked me if I barracked for Melbourne........I said Yes and asked him how he knew???.....He replied that he had seen my key ring (which also holds a demon emblem) and that he barracked for them too....I asked what he thought about the situation we were in and he replied....We will be fine and he had barracked for the demons for all of his life (Yep the whole 8 years)but we all need to "stick fat" as he put it......It restored my faith in the footy club and in Melbourne supporters....

Just thought I would share......If an 8 year old has faith.....Then so do I.....

I was waiting for the punch line as I read (must be my inner cynic)...

... but as it turns out, nice little anecdote... thanks for sharing.

Nineteen asked me to pass on our work tonight on yet another interesting day at MFC

Turned up at the G unaware to be greeted by shattered staff, if the CEO is hated by some, the staff loved him

15 of us turned up tonight which was great, Jason, Daniel, Andrew, Cheryl, Geoff, Dave, Michael, Michael, Stephen, Anne, Chelsea, Judith, Trish, Peter and Geoff who had to leave early, thanks to everybody who turned up including the newbies

Surprisingly we still managed 22 sign ups but importantly about 300-500 phone calls

Some of us managed to chat to Cameron, who made the effort to come and thank us for turning up to support the Club, and yes I shook his hand again

I congratulated him on a couple of things that will be a lasting legacy, the emblem and the blazer, the players all love it, and in case any of the doubters want to question, I hand out scarves on Match Day and we had 18yr old Nathan Stark with us last Saturday, I asked him what he thought of the Blazer and he loves it. I have made a point of asking the others as well...so thanks Cameron for giving us an individual identity back...and thanks for the thanks....and the joke about applying for job at AFL HQ

The Membership staff really do appreciate the help, so next Monday or Tuesday if you want, contact Nineteen on here.

is all ok now? mjt

Another interesting night with 2 new volunteers popping up.

A total of 15 volunteers - 4 better than yesterday.. Wow!! These dark times are creating some very positive response!!

Tx to the new volunteers in Andrew & Jason plus Cheryl, Geoff, Michael, Chelsea, Michael again, Anne, Daniel, Dave, Stephen, Peter, Judy & Trish.

With 22 sign ups we found the going very hard & I guess the CEO crisis was very distracting for our phoning targets. But what a revelationary week for our volunteer project.

My 'vision/dream' has been to get 15 volunteers in nightly & fill out the clubs 15 line phone system.
HOWEVER, at the risk of being greedy, I can now see the possibility of adding a few extras who have capped phone billing [like myself], booting up the volunteer per night numbers possible.
Is 100 sign ups per night possible? At $200 average per member we can have serious in put to the clubs future. Am I dreaming????

Volunteers attending is vital through April/May, but of comparible value is each of us finding one person who will pitch in.
We have had 24 faces turn up to volunteering this year. If this could be pushed up to 40+ attending volunteers, we become a serious player in building this club into the future.
The club will lose 'to many' thousand members from 2012, due to obvious circumstances, but this would be different if our crew could get to these lapsing members.

The term 'My Club" then takes on a very different feel. Geoff/19

PS Can u give me estimated availability Monday & Tuesday next week please. [email protected]

[** Trenners if u would]

Optimus Grimes, Membership not sure whether u mean just games over here, there is a three game membership which you can buy, ring them 1300 DEMONS 1300 336 667

This is heavily advertised as the preferred option is a full membership if anyone knows of some Demons that are thinking of relapsing out (as opposed to relapsing in) then tell them to spend $90.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
