Changes v West Coast

He's probably a great bloke, but he was subsequently delisted by the same club that gave him a standing ovation, a month or so later.

Well, no, he was signed by Melbourne before their B&F, if I recall correctly.

If not before, it was definitely within the week, and he was signed under UFA, not delisted FA.

We need to send some players back to casey to get fitter and to show they want to play AFL football for the MFC, so no point just playing some players this week in the hope their attitude will change, they did not perform so replace them with guys who did. The old carrot and the stick approach. Hopefully those going back to Casey will actually try to run themselves into a bit of form of the big game against GWS. I personally do not see any sense in leave Jack Watts languishing in the seniors when he is not playing well, the pressure will just continue to compound, let him loose that for a week playing for Casey instead of being under the microscope in the eagles game.

Ins: Tapscott - Spencer - Bail - Jetta Evans, Pederson, Kent, Gawn

Outs: Sellar - Nicholson - Rodan - Toumpas - Gillies - Watts - Jamar - Silvia

FB: Garland - Frawley - Jetta

HB: Pederson - T.Mac - Terlich - Magner

C: Viney - Jones - Trengove

HF: Tapscott - Howe - Davey

FF: Byrnes - Clark - Gawn

R: Spencer - Grimes - M.Jones

I: McKenzie, Bail, Kent,

It all starts in the centre give spencer a go first and swap him down to the forward pocket like the old olden days when rovers and rucks used to rest. Stretch the Eagles defense to cover they dont need to run anywhere with Clarky at full forward.

My son was working for a guy who is connected to the Geelong Board through the management committee and he told him Byrnes was going to be delisted, we just got there before he was, if we indeed did. Trust me has was finished with the club.

For someone to be a positive influence on the players he has to be more than a good trainer, he actually has to set some sort of example on the field, and to date he's done nothing that you wouldn't expect a first or second year recruit to do.

I'd rather see Tynan get the 9 or 10 possessions, than someone who has no future at the club.

I'm just sick of the stupidity and the idiotic selections, like Byron Picket, Ben Holland, Moorcroft, and so many others we've been sucked in to swapping for draft picks. All this does is raise the white flag and say, we can't develop or own players so let's get some hacks that have been developed by other clubs.

I'm not having a go at you I'm just so angry at the moment because I've seen this idiocy before; many times.

You have your view of Byrnes and that is fine.

What I saw in Rd 1 was a FP who tackled well and did as much as he could do with such poor, and infrequent, delivery.

We have our views on Byrnes and the decision to bring in Rodan, Byrnes, Pedersen, Gillies, Jones, and Terlich. It is not their fault that we are in this mess, nor can they be blamed for it.

We are flailing as a club and we need to stop trying to find and destroy the easy kill.

It runs deeper than that.

My view is that this is just another in the long line of amateurish/poor/misguided/[censored] decisions that he club has made. I'm sick of the posters on Demonland having more of a clue than the professionals at the club. Of the 4 or 5 selections we get in the draft every year we are lucky to get 1 C grade player.

The reason it runs deeper than that is because we are run like an under age suburban football club and always have been.

Funny really - I never quite understood why we didn't have a really good look at Danyle Pearce. Good enough for Ross Lyon - apparently not us though. Edited by Ron Burgundy

Contact details for MFC are on the site. The recruiting department will obviously be pleased to hear from you, given your expertise.

We were preoccupied fighting off the other clubs that were after Rodan and Byrne.

Plus we were looking for players that would set the trend at training, not talent.

But we trained the house down and the Coach thought after losing to GWS and three others in the nab that we had set things up perfectly for the start of 2013.

My error was thinking he meant winning games.

Silly me

So you reckon they've done a good job so far?

I guess and average losing margin of 117 points will bare that out.

Just as a matter of interest, want to name the gems they've recruited in the past 10 years. You can include the ones they've delisted if you like because there wouldn't be many left to pick from if you don't.

Mid field speed was a major problem last week, why would you bring in McKenzie.

the biggest problem I saw was too many players trying to pickup the tempo of AFL footy. under pressure constantly...

we need all our most gamed players in.

We have too many players learning the AFL tempo, let alone the gameplan.

Wishful thinking in the extreme perhaps given the start to the year, but if we actually manage to beat West Coast this weekend, we'll be ahead of West Coast, potentially St Kilda, Carlton and North Melbourne on the table.

How would that impact upon the current media frenzy 'MFC - Club in Crisis' headlines, particularly given that everyone knows we're in a development period, unlike any of those clubs - and yet we'd be above them on the ladder three rounds into the season.

It'd be massive if we win this weekend. Simply massive. It'd have to censor some of the frenzied media commentary - even if only for a short period of time.

A week in footy can be a long time.

i used to complain about Bail's disposal but to have disposed of the ball one has to have obtained it - which would be a step up from the last two weeks :)

You should have seen bails disposal at casey .... It was excellent ! Along with Strauss, Evans and Clisby.

I was truly staggered and thought these guys should be part of our best 22.

Using the West Coast team sheet from last week, this is how i would like to see us line up:

FB Garland (Hill) Frawley (Darling) Jetta (Masten)
HB Grimes (Cripps) McDonald (Kennedy) Terlich (Hams)
C Trengove (Embley) Viney (Priddis) Nicholson (Gaff)
HF Tapscott (Hurn) Clarke (Schofield) Howe (Waters)
FF Byrnes (A Selwood) Gawn (Glass) Watts (Brown)

R Jamar (Cox) N Jones (S Selwood) Sylvia (Schuey)

I Blease Davey M Jones (Sinclair, Butler, Sheppard)
S Kent (Dalziell)

Ins : Jetta,Tapscott, Gawn, Kent

Outs : Gillies, Sellar, Toumpas, Rodan

I think we have been too top heavy in the back line, so Gillies goes, replaced by Jetta. I have put Grimes in the back line because i think we could really use his leadership, aggression and understanding of the game down there. Also have the option of putting Watts back there depending on match ups.

Sellar hasn't done much so far, so although he is probably underdone, I think it's worth giving Max a go at full forward, giving Jamar a chop out for 5 minutes a quarter. At worst, he is going to cause match up problems for West Coast, and has the potential to kick a couple, while doing better than Sellar as the back up ruck.

Toumpas needs a few weeks at Casey to gain some confidence. He has been ok, but would benefit from a few games getting more of the ball, and possibly having a win!

Rodan was only in because of Mckenzie's late withdrawal (who I'm assuming won't be right to go) so he stays out. Tapscott and Kent come in, with Kent the sub to offer a bit of X-factor with his pace and skills in the last quarter and a bit.

I would have Nicholson running the whole game with Gaff. Also ensure that we look to use Howe and Tapscott to keep Hurn and Waters accountable.

Watts to play in the forward line as a lead up target. Big Max in the goal square with Davey or Byrnes at his feet.

Mfc needs to make an emphatic statement to team composition this week after they did not perform this week. Need to replace under performing players them with Casey players who did perform. We must show we respect and reward players who earn it and those that cannot measure up, need to go back to Casey to earn their place back. Hunger is what we need and most in the side, most of the players mentioned as doing well for Casey this week were noted for that. This week should be a test for those in Casey to see if they measure up and a chance for Senior players who did not measure up to run into form.

what is with Spencer love - didn't even make the best players at Casey whereas Gawn was second best.

The uninterrupted pre-season is the only reason I have him in ahead of Max who IMO would be better off playing at least 1 more full week in the VFL

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed. Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth. The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full
