CASEY SCORPIONS v FRANKSTON

KC from Casey

Recommended Posts

Gillies, Sellar or Jamar needs to take one for the team and go down with a fake LTI during the week so we can get Magner in to give our midfield half a chance.

Those 3 players should be banished from playing for the Dees until at least after the bye round.

The LTI doesn't have to be fake, any, or all three could cop one in the knee from The Grassy Knoll (or even The Book Repository).

Very good in patches. Runs hard, kicks long and has a bit of a mean streak. The question is whether he's ready.

In your infinite wisdom will he get a call up? There is something I like about him. Maybe the mean streak and LONG left boot

Stats: Magner 34, Couch 32, Gent 24, Tapscott, Clisby, Evans 23, Pedersen 21, Bail 20 Goals: Tapscott 6, Kearns 5, Gawn, Bail, Hogan, Best 2

We must find a way to promote Magner.

Left at the end of the third. I'd say Tappy, Jetta and Spencer would be walk ups for next week. Kent might be a show as well. Gawn looks good but might need another run or two. Hogan really provides a lot of direction to the other forwards and is very unselfish. Probably could have had a couple more shots instead of laying off inside 50.

You can probably add Bail (and maybe Evans and Kent).

I'm glad casey have started well. I'm really keen for hogan, Barry, Kent etc to enjoy this year. Perhaps giving them a year of winning games at casey isn't the worst thing for them? Better than demoralising them in the afl side anyway

Where are we going to get the talls to combat the Weagles height especially in defense?

If the mids can get more clearances we won't need them. One of Gillies or Sellar won't be dropped and that gives us 4 talks down back (Fraw, McD, Garl).

Be an interesting game.

We have the tallest defence's going around. They'll have Kennedy, Darling and a resting ruckman.

If the 5 of our 6 defenders that are over 190cm cant play on these guys then what the hell are they doing in the side?

It looks like it has.

From the MFC website (player profile) ".... a knee injury (posterior cruciate ligament) sidelined him from round seven until round 14 (2010). It was a savage blow for Jamar and Brent Moloney, who had established a dynamic centre square partnership. He wasn't the same player when he returned, with the injury affecting his leap and timing at ruck and marking contests." end

Pretty old news and not telling anyone anything new, but never been the same player since unfortunately. If this is unfixable i'm afraid we just have to blood Spencer/Gawn as short term replacements (possibly longer term if they fire) and look to bring in an athletic high leaping, hard running/marking ruckman.

I'd prefer Sellar down back for Gillies. He doesn't have to worry about marking it, he can just punch it.

What do you mean Sellar took some great contested marks last night? And if he didn't mark it he at least made a contest/got to the ball drop

On last nights performance there's no question i'd take Seller over Gillies if they're the only optional outs down back. Seller had another shocker as well but at least knows where to position his body when the ball's in flight at a marking contest and as you said, he can punch the ball away and hopefully prevent it (and his opponent) getting behind him for regular easy goals.

I went to the game with my old man. Beautiful weather out there. Grand stand has a great view.

Saying all that. In my opinion, Gawn was clearly the best of the ruckmen today. When he wasn't being played out of the square (obviously due to a lack of fitness) and he was on the ball, he dominated. Moves so well for a big man, taps directly on to the chest of our players. Good foot skills, a couple of tackles (hoo-f'ing-ray a ruckamn who can tackle), although missed a goal from close in front, probably should have finished with 3 maybe 4. The question is, would you rather he got fitness at Casey or playing as a relief ruckman for MFC...not sure, interested to see the opinion of others.

Thought Bail was a class above, as was Jetta in patches.

Here's my observations on a few of the others:

Hogan - Is just going to be a dead set superstar. Is everything a young KPF should be. Hard at it, can take a mark, a bit of arrogance, good kick at goal.

Tapscott - was everywhere today, Should be a certain starter next week after 6 goals and a BOG

Bail - Classy, good running, strong overhead. Should be in ASAP.

Jetta - good without being a stand out. But when you think about some of the guys playing for MFC (i'm thinking Rodan, Byrnes, Nicho etc) he should be in the team.

Strauss - Got towelled up early. Better as the game went on. Is he a better bet than Nicholson - 50/50 at this point, Wouldn't hurt having a look.

Kent - Seems ready for a call up. Got a fair bit of footy and kicked a couple of good goals.

Spencer - Was ok for mine, nothing outstanding.

Barry - Couple of nice flashes, needs to work on his defensive pressure. Looks good with the ball in his hands. Will be great off a half back flank in two years.

Magner/Couch - great getting the ball, questions on disposal still. They have the grunt we are missing at the moment, too bad we can't bring them in.

Pederson - Played down back. Looks better suited down there. Might be worth another look.

That's all I can think of right now. Highlights for mine Gawn & Hogan.

Thanks for the report Lucifer!

Re: Gawn, do you think we could ditch Sellar and Pedo and have Jamar and Gawn rucking and swapping forward duties? Jamar could find some mojo in the forward line, he's had good stints there before. Would mean a forward lineup like: Blease, Clark, Byrnes, Sylvia, Gawn/Jamar, Howe.

Thoughts after today?

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
