I am ambivalent about the upcoming footy season. In the past I have got myself up for the new season with always a touch of optimism however, the lack of success is finally eating away at this supporter.

We have lots of young talent...and the best of luck to them, however the club still reeks of sustained on field failures and off field dramas.

The MFC is still a joke amongst the media and those informed in the industry....this makes me ill with contempt, but where is the success going to come from?

The late great Jimmy Stynes was our saviour......is there a hero or 2 ready to bring home the bacon for the MFC or are we totally irrelevant in this competition.

I truly hope I am proved wrong.

As always, I am buoyed by the upcoming footy season. Nothing could ever change that!

It takes time to turn it all around and we will. The process began last year with a no bull sh!t coach and staff. Standards need to be set before they are followed and I truely believe Neeld and co are doing that. Off field we need to continue to push with Casey and secure sponsors but wins are required to gain some excitement from potential fans, members and sponsors. Stick fat. No one saw Geelong's reign coming and no one will see ours coming.

Winning games of footy is the great cure for any ailing club.

It all gets back to the 'W' and 'L' columns.

I'm actually looking forward to the season perhaps because outside expectations are low.

8 wins and some real up and comers would be a great result for mine.

I'm actually looking forward to the season perhaps because outside expectations are low.

After watching the Bulldogs and GWS this week, and the obvious progress they have made, my own expectations have altered somewhat. I assumed we'd be ahead of both. I'm not quite as confident now.

I really hope there isn't more pain like 2012, but I won't be shocked if there is.

If we can avoid scandal, tragedy and the spoon I'm in.

Thanks for telling us this.

What would you like us to do about it?

I'm ambivalent only in terms of results going into this season but I've never been so keen to actually see the first bounce of a season. I think what has happened off field has been profound and the most significant change to happen to this club in the last 2 decades. As far as how the outside world sees us? It couldn't be any less so it's not hard to see the way up and I think the people to take us forward have been identified.

And your point is..............?

As they say in US TV shows........is there a question there.........?

We've turned over a third of the list and included epic names such as Viney, Toumpas and Hogan and now is the time you become ambivalent?

Lol

We have lots of young talent.....that are at a NOW professionally coached and run club, that, The late great Jimmy Stynes, and others including supporters have helped rebuild.

The MFC is still a joke amongst the media and those informed in the industry.....I don't give a crap about THEM, WE will gain their respect starting this season and i'm again onboard with plenty of optimism again, Soidee

I'm the same as the OP.

I think last year was very tough on me and the club and its supporters. I haven't been this disinterested in a season in a long time.

It makes me sad, because there is a lot of hope. But I smell a wooden spoon this year. I don't know why. It's just a lingering stench.

Agreed, last year was as low as it got for me in 30 odd years supporting the Dees.

But I have faith in the culture I see being built now at the football club. The results will come.

Medication helps..

Last year was an all time low? 2008 will take some topping for me. As for this year, I'm excited. We've cleared away dead wood and recruited players that should help us get back to the pack more quickly. I'm expecting a new look side that hopefully has some cohesion about it. I accept that we've been disappointed before and acknowledge that I'm setting myself up for a fall potentially, but honestly if *all* I could see on the horizon was doom and dismay I'd just give up following.

Are you for real? This is the most excited I've been in years. The FD is professional and putting the right sort of expectations on players. There won't be any games "given" to anybody this year. Players will have to earn a spot in this side. When was the last time we could say that? We've got a better list than last year and the pre-season form is showing that we're building some depth. This might not translate into a lot of wins this year but I'd rather have the foundations in place for a successful future than simply go for the quick fix, which we've seen in the past is just unsustainable.

Above all, we beat Port Adelaide with a team of juniors and fringe players FFS. The signs are there my friend. Cast off your ambivalence and replace it with enthusiasm and optimism.

It's going to be a great year.

Go DEES!

Edited spelling. It's gotta be right.

this year will be a struggle but at least the tanking is behind us

average midfield will kill us this year but i get the feeling the foundations are taking shape for a good club

I am seriously hoping that 2012 is where the club actually hit the bottom of complete darkness.

It was hard work supporting anything MFC particularly once the tanking rubbish blew out.

But i will support Neeld & the FD.

I think we have recruited well, and got rid of players who were detrimental.

More will be moved on at the end of 2013.

But yesterday showed us one thing. We do have some depth that can play.

How far they improve will be the journey.

I will be at Casey next Saturday. I hope the OP is also there.

Moloney has gone. We will now move forward.

We were never successful with Moloney in the club and while alot of you may dis-agree with me and probably curse me for saying this, I have always thought that Moloney was a cancer in the club. With his bully like antics, and way he went about things I do not think he grew on many young players to well.

I am hoping now that he is gone that our boys get much more confidence to do things without being yelled at.

Craig, Neeld, Rawlings, and Royal all look like blokes that would give a bake if someone needed it.

Hogan, Viney and Toumpas walking into the club should be enough to lift the most pessimistic fans. Along with Kent, Barry, etc. it could be the best group of recruits since the formation of the draft in 1986.

Here you go fellas... Either it will be a terrible year and you'll need these or it'll be a great year and you'll need these....
