NAB CUP 3: ST. KILDA

More so injured last year. Has and will continue to go alright given the ruck position. I still say we kept the wrong bloke.

you may be right. But like Moloney he was not going to give his best for Melbourne again. I still think Stef will be a good footballer, but we had to get rid of him. Hence he went cheap.

186 was very costly in so many ways.

I wasnt there today but want to ask, Have the Dees improved from last years preseason?

If the answer is yes then we have something to look forward to.

If the answer is no then we are in trouble.

Big mistake getting rid of Martin, Moloney and Rivers (who has proven so good Geelong rested him today!)

I guess we just have to let the apologists have their say! (How did we go today?!)

And how would we have gone with them in our side? (Rivers aside, I think we already know the answer)

We didn't get rid of Rivers or Moloney, both left of their own accord under FA.

We had a season full of threads trashing Moloney, and now he's gone it was a "big mistake".

Rivers is missed, he's a class act and reads the ball well. Will be a good fit for the cats and good luck to him. The other 2 forget about them.

Martin did a couple of his party tricks tonight, did similar last year where he does a 360 and loses his compass. He is a big tease, looks about to do something great then can't complete.

Moloney, pointed, gave away a few stupid frees, didn't push too far or chase too much but did get involved in a couple of good give and gets against an inexperienced Collingwood line up. Saw McGrath totally burn him at one stage, wasn't happy about something earlier on.

They were impressive in the midfield with most of the good clearance work from Rich and Rockliff the clearance king got 2 a couple of gimme's, nothing in the centre.

Interesting to see if they hold their spots throughout the season.

I wouldn't say horrible. He's still one of our most composed and efficient players with the ball, I think most people have accepted he won't be a 'great' player.

Sorry, he's a horrible pick one. Not a horrible footballer by any means, but a horrible pick one. He's border-line best 22 FFS. He can only play on smalls, which is embarrassing and they lead him a merry dance, because they're too nimble.

It's a bit of a joke.

Completely wrong...Watts is one of the most nimble blokes ive seen for his size, and is one of the best kicks in our team , top 3 easy.

You sum up many Melbourne supporters. You don't realise that Rivers left the club as a free agent and you don't get that Moloney and Martin didn't "buy in". You don't get that Martin's best position is in the ruck and that he's a very average key forward. We all know that Martin, who is an uncoordinated gumby, can have his 'athletic' good days, but he's no loss. He certainly doesn't make us better. And Moloney picked on crap sides and was a dud against the good ones. A B grader if I'm kind.

The footy stupid are alive and well.

He's nimble for his height and won the agility test at draft camp, as we all know, but he's no hope on slick small forwards. It's the second and third efforts that cruel him. And he was left wanting again today.

The club rightly won't let him stand anyone taller that 4 foot. It's his comfort level.

I don't speak for many Melbourne supporters - I express my own views. I believe these players were not given the best training and opportunities to play. The exact reason they left is not really relevant - they would have stayed if they wanted to and/or if the club wanted them. The footy stupid may be alive and well - the question is where they are and what they know and believe.

Rubbish... demonstrates your understanding of the game and of talent. Watts is one of the better draft choices we have made in a dismal period. For you to jerk around like you do is clear evidence of trolling behaviour. I don't know if you were at Nab 1 v Nth etc... or have ever noticed Jacks highlights over his short career. Nothing you cough up can ever distort the fact that he is a versatile running tall that has excellent kicking skills, very good marking skills and great play-reading ability. If you can't see that you are a poor judge.

Unfortunately I think you do.

As for training and opportunities ? You must endorse Bailey's methods. I don't. I'm rapt that Neeld has been the first coach in eons to clear the dead wood from this club.

You seemingly wanted more of the same. I can never understand why supporters become emotionally attached with duds.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
