I dont know how Gary Lyon can work with her.

She hates his football club, continually publishing lies about them.

She hates his good mate James Brayshaw as well.

Maybe it is a case of the Chinese General Sun-Tzu's theory, "keep your friends close, and your enemies closer"?

But, sadly, I think it os more a matter of GL looking after his own cushy job.

Really? There has hardly been any real developments since last week so what on earth will they be able to say?

My understanding is....My sources tell me.......Hird has to go....What about the role of Bomber?......How will they prove it......So how many clubs are actually vulnerable to illicit drugs.........blah blah blah.........

Maybe CW is about to release another exclusive, that the drugs used at Essendrug were actually sourced by ............Cameron Swab.

Seems to me that DM's article was entirely for the benefit of "members and supporters".

In my view, Caro's just doing her job. If she'd written a factual balanced article that was fair to all parties, we'd all go "yeah, good article" and move on to something else. As it is, she's generated a huge amount of anxiety & fear - and chatter - both here and Bummerbitz. In the media, the Mae West principle applies - the only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about. THAT AIN'T MAE WEST - IT'S OSCAR WILDE If you can't get your attributions right I ain't gunna read ya

Fair enough. Seemed like the sort of thing MW would say tho'.

No one has posted that the Age did publish Don M's statement today, so I now assume they did not.

I amazed at the apologists for CW. But I'm even more amazed that there has been so little reaction to the failure of the Age to publish Don M's refutation of her article. Whatever you think of her opinions/facts/tone, the smallest modicum of balance would require the Age to publish Don's statement. It seems only the ABC is required by charter to be balanced.

I agree absolutely Sue

I'm not sure why I haven't raised your precise point - perhaps its because I can't quite believe that not one media outlet has picked up the story. I'd like to think that Caro's habit of representing her own bias as fact is too much of a hot topic for them to handle - or perhaps its the calm before the storm.

One way or another Don's note gave every journo the chance to start reversing 7 months of poisonous publicity ..... and not one of them took it up ! Its outrageous !

What if the producers of FC - and Gary Lyon - ignore it in favour of the drug beat up again tonight?

How tall are you, cowboy?

Six feet six inches ma'am.

Let's forget about the six feet and concentrate on the six inches ...

That's the sort of thing Mae West would say. Totally out of order on this thread of course, so no one should mention it.

Sometimes I wonder how Caro has a job..

She shifts units to unsuspecting plods. Idiots love her. The most consistent form of praise you hear is that she's "the only one ballsy enough to tell it how it is".

It's possible that you have to be on the receiving end of one of her relentless attacks to see just how poor her work is.

None of this changes the fact that she is working in a dying medium. Soon we may only be exposed to her on tv. So yes, things can get worse..

Live by the source, die by the source (when they dry up - or give info that makes her look a tad silly)

She looks sillier every time she broaches the issue.

That would be a very difficult task! :-))

The line about facing the commission is concerning. In a carefully worded statement this stands out. I suspect the President is fairly confident that "charges" will be laid and some MFC personnel will face the AFL commission. CW has been making up rubbish for years. Why doesn't she pick on Richmond for tanking? Because she is a Richmond supporter.

I don't know why people are 'amazed' and 'disgusted' that the Age didn't bother with Don's statement.

Just because the defences Caro referred to aren't in the MFC submission, doesn't mean they haven't been the subject of discussions between the club and the AFL in recent days / weeks. You can almost bet your bottom dollar they have...

Do you seriously think the club hasn't made those points to the AFL ? I'd be disappointed if they haven't.

Virtually all of the discussion on this forum has centred around those "defences" .. do you really think the league and the club are instead discussing where Jamar played, or why Watts didn't appear more often?

You think they're sitting around watching replay after replay of the final 3 minutes of the Richmond game?

They'll be talking about the legal issues, the AFL regulations, evidence, potential charges and what sort of evidence the AFL does or doesn't have. Stuff like that. Why anyone would believe the intrepid girl reporter rather than Don is a complete mystery to me.

my point is that you are presented assumptions as fact....so much so that you are prepared "to bet your bottom dollar"

It wasn't presented as fact at all - it was an opinion, or an educated guess. In fact it's so obvious it doesn't even require the education bit..

And I didn't say I'd bet my bottom dollar - I said you can almost .. Neither did I say anything about Schwab. Perhaps you have more in common with Caro than I.

Whatever weight you give your second sentence (seems irrelevant to me) I am amazed that you can't see that any newspaper of quality should not have been expected to publish or have a news item about Don's response. Staggered.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
