There's an article in the local Casey newspaper on new Casey coach which should be of interest to Demon fans:-

VFL: Clean slate for Scorpions' coach

"This year, the former Frankston player will be in charge of guiding future Melbourne stars such as Jack Viney, Jimmy Toumpas and Jesse Hogan at the Demons' VFL affiliate."

Here's some info on new recruit Ben Hughes who was on the North Melbourne rookie list a few years ago:-

Born: August 30, 1988

Playing Height: 192cm

Playing Weight: 93kg

Position: Forward

Drafted: Round 2, Pick #19 2006 Rookie Draft

It doesn't look good from an MFC perspective if the article is right that we wanted a full-time coach and got rolled. The relationship does not seem to be harmonious. Can you shed any light on that KC?

Josh Fraser was offerd the playing coach job as he has a very high ambition to coach. turned it down though.

At last information on interclub game - Dees V Saints at Casey March 9

That's a NAB cup game. We will have an intra club before our first NAB hit out on Feb 22, That's the mystery game.

Was the job offered by Casey? I doubt Melbourne would want a playing coach in this position. Maybe this is why Josh turned it down.

Yes was offered by casey but turned it down as it was a worry with their debt and whether they would last in the VFL. Also didn't like the Casey/Melbourne relation especially when the Dees pulled half those players out when finals time come. Has happened the last couple of years. It's really not a healthy look though.

Thanks 'dazzle'. We need to get on top of this relationship, it certainly doesn't appear to be healthy.

So Josh Fraser knocked back the Casey job so he could head for the bright lights of Mansfield FC?? Great career move if he has aspirations to be involved in coaching at the highest level.

Wants to atleast give back to his hometown which is a great idea. Just because he is heading back to mansfield doesnt mean jack. Todd viney started at moama and neeldy started down in country geelong and won a dozen flags. It will come to him.

Can Josh come on the board and say so.....I agree turn Casey down and go to Mansfield....NOT.....the relationship is fine, the MFC supporters would go ballistic if players who need an op weren't sent so they will be ready for day 1 of preseason if they could.so they may not be allowed to play.....also you need a certain amount of games to qualifty for the finals with Casey so it may be a case of the VFL rules it is all a .no win situation..no matter what...Casey did ok.....if you are going to trot out the same old lame 'facts' about the Casey Scorpions at least get it right...how does the journalist know Melbourne have a preference for a full time coach...Lovett was part time and the job was his to keep if he wanted it

Casey have a really good coach now anyway....and a proven one, not somebody just starting out

We didn't get rolled. Neither Casey nor us could find a coach with the correct credentials; mainly due to Casey's parlous condition. Welsh's pedigree is outstanding, and he was chosen as the best of the part-time options.

I have no doubt about Welsh's pedigree and think he is a good appointment but I am interested to know if the article is on the money or not. Do you have information that it isn't or is it your opinion.

I would think it would be in the interests of the MFC to fund the coach particularly if that was the sticking point to getting a full-time coach with the correct credentials or even getting Welsh on as a full-time coach and part of the MFC FD.

Does anybody know a link to Casey's player list and/or player profiles? With so many MFC players available (including Hogan) then the coaching job at Casey is looming to be the Melbourne Reserves!

I'm not privvy to any of the politics involved but I'm happy with the choice.

Sounds like the MFC is starting to (deservedly) suffer some payback for their appalling treatment of Casey in recent final series.

If Casey are finding it difficult to attract decent players and coaches, that is only going to hurt the MFC in the long run. Perhaps then they might take the VFL competition seriously.

CASEY Scorpions have registered interest in axed Fremantle forward Jack Anthony, who is yet to decide on his playing future

Fev mark II, this is where they go off the rails. It only pushes the MFC to go stand alone, neither club really need that to happen so I hope they wake up to themselves.

It must be a very hard situation being aligned to an AFL club.....The AFL club will do what is right by them, at the end of a season(see the past two years finals).....Yet they have to recruit players to try to win games.....They are required to play the AFL clubs players in certain positions and some for limited game time....but still have to satisfy their own members and traditions...

Lets not be to hard on them for trying to do the best they can for their own club.....

And this is also coming from a Casey snr player. old lame facts do your research before kicking the messenger down.

Why? will it stop players like Lucas becoming champions.

That was news a while ago but nothing seems to be happening on that score. Have you heard anything recently and is there any particular reason why he might go to Casey?

I note he originally came from Diamond Creek.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
