Crows pull out of draft ... sort of

I reckon Tippet will have a bad man flu the next time his (future?) team draws a game in adelaide

I don't really think the AFL will take into account much what the crows have done today. It is the crows who have decided to strip themselves of these picks, it is not the AFL who has done this! I think it is a very risky move by the Crows and i really think it will backfire in their faces and i think they will quite likely be without their 1st and 2nd rnd picks in the next 2 drafts after tomorrows

lol

No, they just are taken out of the order.

Gotta admit, I had my hopes up!

I think Matt Rendell would be a bit peeved. He gets the boot immediately upon his indescretion with no opportunity to defend himself and this buffoon Trigg is still CEO. Two different scenarios, admittedly.

Go figure.

Another thing to consider is ... can the Crows unilaterally do this without AFL approval?

Whoever had the printed materials printed up and ready for tomorrow night will also be mightily [censored].

* Edit ... seems like Angry Anderson has given it the seal of a approval already ...

AFL football operations manager Adrian Anderson welcomed Adelaide's bombshell, saying the move would work in the Crows' favour when the AFL Commission reviewed the case.

"Absolutely, I think this is definitely something that will be taken into account in Adelaide's favour as an appropriate step should they be found guilty," Anderson told reporters on the Gold Coast ahead of the draft.

"I think it's better for the game ... in all the circumstances and they should get credit and will get credit for that."

So they expect to get a massive hit and are trying to get a reduced sentence.

IMO they are admitting guilt.

thing is......they are !!!!!!!

This is Adelaide dictating terms on what will happen. Do not like it.

I would've thought it's more the AFL telling them what to do behind closed doors and then allowing them a thinly veiled face-saving gesture.

Possibly. But until i hear that my original idea stands...

The Commission has to approve it. AA can only recommend it.

Maybe the Crows are playing it smart. If they kept their picks this year they might lose 4 rounds next year. So by giving up their picks this year they can still participate this year and next albeit at higher draft pick levels. Its better than missing a whole draft in 2013.

Gerard Healy couldn't help himself on 3AW earlier. At the end of an interview of Adrian Anderson about new tribunal rules for 2013, Gerard asked him whether he expected Melbourne to follow Adelaide's lead and forfeit draft picks ahead of tomorrow's draft. To his credit, Anderson responded by saying that they were completely different circumstances and that Melbourne has not been charged, so no he doesn't expect that.

Haha ... in your face Gerard. That turncoat should have his name and records scrubbed from MFC history.

without doubt doubt Gerard Healey is an absolute ..( insert word of choice )

Gerard Healy really hates this club....i always remember at the end of the Swans final in '87 the 2 Healy boys were walking off the ground arm in arm

1 a winner the other a loser....You made your choice Gerard.

Funny thing is I thought clubs had to make a minimum of 3 picks in the draft according to AFL rules. What goes on here? are they in breach of another rule and further tampering with the draft?

What were the circumstances of Healy leaving?

Was he just a mercenary?

Wouldn't be surprised if he got a brown paper bag from the good Doctor. That would make him quite the hypocrite eh?

this is actually becoming quite bizarre, disolving into pantomime

comical bordering on farce

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
