Not football related but when Elton John married David Furnish one of the English tabloids ran with "Elton takes David up the aisle"

hahaha!

Or "What goes on in Elton's John?"

Surely the best ever sporting headline came when the lowly-ranked Caledonian Thistle thrashed Celtic in the Scottish FA Cup a number of years ago:

"SuperCalaGoBallisticCelticAreAtrocious"

My list of unfortunate headlines...

Old MacDonald had a run...

Jones is trying to keep up...

Howe's that...?

Ok, now they were bad. But, look at this one.

I bet they play him down back with Brown.....

A couple that are non-sports related..

The midget psychic that escaped from jail had the headline, "Small Medium at Large".

Or the article about the lunatic that escaped from the asylum, was alledged to have sexually assulted a lady at a laundromat, but is still on the run. Headline read "Nut Screws Washer and Bolts".

The London Sun had a ripper many years ago, around the time that the Major Government was up to its eyeballs in sleaze.

The Government released a tough Budget, prompting the headline: "Now we've all been screwed by Cabinet."

Other faves include:

Headles Body in Topless Bar (N.Y Post) ; and

Iraqi Head Seeks Arms (News of TheWorld)

Locally, the Mx had a good one the day after Julia Gillard gave her so-called misogyny speech: "Julia Caesar"

"Snedders dies on the Job"

(The Truth)

There's an apocryphal story going around about the writer compiling a book of stories about public figures who died on the job

The working title: "They came as they went"

Ahh the "TRUTH". My favourite banner headline from the truth was in reference to Bart Cummings having the favourite in the Cox plate one year. The headline was "BARTS COX IN BOX". Pure gold.

In a vague sporting tie in, when Muralitharan's bowling action was scientifically tested after the Daryl Hair no ball controversy, a newspaper allegedly ran with the headline "Hair or No Hair, Murali's Balls are Clean".

Lets Bury the other threads on the AFL commission & list managing so the AFL can move forward!!! Start as many threads as we can to try to bury these sad topics, & hopefully they'll go away.

And most of these distraction threads are by people with small post counts, IMO aliases.

One of the Pommy Sun's more famous headlines came after Caledonian Thistle upset Celtic in the Scottish FA cup: "Super Caley go Ballistic Celtic were atrocious."

There used to be a guy who played for Claremont called Micock....true story!

He was caught playing with himself after the game. Headline read "Micock can't get enough!" It was a think piece about passion and over doing it.

There was a headline about the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks womans basketball team in the States once which read:

'Lady Jacks off to hot start at conference'

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
