stinga81 210 Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Any chance this century we get to play the Cats at the G? A bit of farce that one. Fair enough no friday night games, you have to earn them.
beelzebub 23,392 Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 not a bad draw to build momentum on. sucks that we dont finish off at the G though
H_T 3,049 Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Another away game v essendon Not surprising. Avoiding the essendon clash jumper.
demon-4-life 467 Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 We really should have 6 wins straight up. GC, GWS and WB twice is such a gift.
whatwhat say what 23,839 Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 rounds 1, 4, 7, 14, 19, 20 and 23 are all eminently winnable.

The last time we played them at the G was the same night as the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics Ablett kicked a goal after 9 seconds we kicked one in the first half We don't DESERVE a game at the G
beelzebub 23,392 Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 rounds 1, 4, 7, 14, 19, 20 and 23 are all eminently winnable. As ridiculous as it will sound to some.. All games are winnable. A different mindset is being established within the players. We wont be going out there to provide competition, we will be going out to win. Doing so is another thing.

45HG 1,559 Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 3 home games against Victorian clubs at our home ground. If the league (or media) have a go at us for turnout/revenue, they can jump. In terms of footballing, however, it's a great draw. Could get off to a very good start and we play a lot of trash a few times. I am, nevertheless, sick of saying this the day the fixture is released and looking back 11 months later in misery. This will be different though. As the Melbourne motto goes; "There's always next year!"
hardtack 11,106 Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 In replay to the deleted post claiming we got @$*&ed hard, how so? I see 9 very winnable games and depending on how our new look team comes together and how they take to the game plan, they can improve upon that as there are a number that could go either way (Lions in Brissy, Freo in Melb, Tiges and even Adelaide is not a forgone conclusion).
olisik 4,060 Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 I think this draw is great, we have at 6 - 7 games we will go in as favorites for. If we can sneak in another 2 - 3 wins who knows, we may even push the 8 a bit. This is exactly the type of draw we need to get some momentum going and get the boys feeling good and confident moving forward. We have a fresh list who are all feeling fit upon returning to pre-season, Viney, Wines, Trengove, Jones, Sylvia, Howe, Blease will be tearing it up in the midfield with Dawes, Clark, Byrnes and Pederson putting pressures on opposition defenses.

Agree hardtack, I think we've done well out of this also. Even Essendon in round 2 could be a 50/50 contest. I can stomach the last 8 rounds and only 4 games in Victoria, we're spoiled with our 13 out of first 15 games at the G.
Mac7 309 Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Good draw in terms of winnable games. Terrible in terms of finances. The only homes games that will have decent gate $ is once against Collingwood and once against Hawthorn. No home games against Richmond, Carlton, Essendon, Geelong. Need to improve to get crowds I suppose...
Pates 9,697 Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 F#%$ me, another away game against Essendon at the G! Bloody ridiculous! They REALLY don't want to have to worry about the clash jumper, we should wear ours just to spite them (would never happen but I can dream!). A few opportunities to get some wins up early with games against Port, GWS, and GC at the G,. We've had the wood over them but the bombers start well, would've rathered seeing them later in the year. Good change up with a game in Victoria to finish the year. North @ Etihad as a home game could wellbe one of the lowest drawing Vic vs Vic games in a long time, is years game got not many and it was a north home game. Footballing wise it's a good draw, for crowds and gate receipts its crap.
Lifelong Demon 75 Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 Not surprising. Avoiding the essendon clash jumper. Although I like the idea of derailing Essondon's season from Round 2 instead of from the first week of June...
Jack7 528 Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 Very happy with our draw,no Friday night games but 4 Saturday night games which i prefer anyway. Should win 6,best case 8.
Jarka 767 Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 The FD should be happy, especially with the first half of the season, feel sorry for the marketing and financial team though.

(We haven't won in rd 1 since 2005.......)
titan_uranus 25,252 Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 Let's be honest. This draw is just what we need. We've got one finalist twice. Just one. And it's Fremantle. We play them well in Melbourne. We've got double games against GC, GWS and WB. Straight up that affords us the chance in six games. No Friday night games is bad for a lack of exposure and sponsorship and stuff, but we get four Saturday night games, which is good (and we seem to play well in them), we avoid the embarrassment of being insipid on a Friday night, and we get plenty of Saturday day games anyway. The home game against North Melbourne is a disgrace, but to offset it in some way, St Kilda hosts us at the G. So those two could be flipped home/away and then no one would complain. So it's OK I guess. No surprise that we don't host Essendon. I yearn for the year where we don't go down to Geelong. But I note this year that Richmond has avoided it, whilst St Kilda is off to Geelong. Tides turn. If/when we get good, we won't be sent down there.
olisik 4,060 Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 .....Because we have had such momentum going into rd 1 every year. (We haven't won in rd 1 since 2005.......) I do not see how that is relevant to our 2013 draw...
Sir Why You Little 37,450 Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 Great draw. No excuses at all. Wins are very possible.
PaulRB 6,435 Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 Although I like the idea of derailing Essondon's season from Round 2 instead of from the first week of June... Given how we stumbled into this years season while the Dons were already in fourth gear, I'd be circumspect about predicting the round 2 result going our way.
Salems Lot 2,692 Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 Good draw for the team lousey draw for the club. The former outweighs the latter in my opinion as more wins and a better product will lead to a better draw.
Hannibal 5,814 Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 I agree with the consensus. Eight wins should be a bare minimum and I believe that 10 is very achievable.
monoccular 17,760 Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 A home game against of all teams, Norf, at Doglands is a travesty. Otherwise little reason to complain other than the annual "away" game vs Essendung (saves the high integrity AFL biting the bullet and just telling the Bummers to fix an away jumper) and the annual trip to Geelong.
