Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

A bigger Rory Taggert

I think by the time Taggert was drafted, BP was effectively a figure head in that role and the coaching group would've had more influence.

I am saying this based on no evidence whatsoever ither than the fact he was given the arse not long after.

...and Rory is the one Neeld mentioned at the start of the season that wrote the letter he was impressed with. I would think Neeld had a fair say in us picking him up.

It's amazing how you start a post about how good a person looks.

Then it ends up like your missus asking you does my butt look big in this.

No matter what the answer, you are in the [censored].

Except here you blame the person / persons responsible for drafting the dude.

Next time remind me to think of all the stupid consequences.

0/2 there. Prendergast was still in charge of drafting and should take the rub good or bad for outcomes. God knows how many posters whinged about BBBP for recruiting a player with a bad back.

Unless of course you actually dig up the "facts".

Prendergast actually resigned in Jan 2012.

After listening to Mark Neelds speech at the AGM, I think Neeld had a big say in recruiting Taggert.

You don't know that.

I trust you're able to see the irony in your response.

don't ask me why this was on an italian football website, but this is the story written by Burgan ahead of last years draft... what it indicates is that Neeld was quite involved, and had an idea of the types of players he was after...

would love to know the names of the players they were discussing...

Neeld was the one that had the ultimate say in drafting Taggert.

I'll find the article, but at the time it was being discussed with the selection at pick 36.

Prendergast tossed up a names, Neeld says something along the lines of "I'll always go with grunt" (referring to Taggert)

That's my recollection also. Of course Taggert's selection was driven by Neeld as were all the other selections in that draft. Couch,Magner? Hardly in the BP mould. Seems a weird barrow to be pushing RR.

I do know that. No irony at all given the "facts" you claim are merely your opinion of events in absence of any evidence.

I stated at the beginning that it was based on no evidence whatsoever but it appears it is general consensus.

You're the one banging on about facts that even you don't have. Irony.

Sometimes Photos lie I know.

But have a look at the photos of the early trainers at today's training session.

Rory is meant to be 187cm and Aaron 177cm by current player stats.

the photo of Jetta, Davey & Taggert taken from the rear he certainly looks more than 10cm taller than Davey.

He has obviously spent a bit of time in the Gym as well with his back problems.

He is looking pretty good.

:)

Well Thaipantsman

Similar things were said about any number of our recruits in the last eight years and most have been average at best.

Some never even had 1 AFL game.

e.g. Cook.

He looks good but I will believe it when he has played 50 AFL games.

Until then he is a good junior who has not played one game yet.

He has joined the big boys now lets see what happens

No you didnt you excluded the "fact" that he got the arse from your no evidence. And you got pantsed for claiming a fact that clearly wasnt. And I not sure why you goading me about facts because firstly I was not making unfounded claims and secondly I produced evidence that showed your "fact" a lie. And your grasp of the true irony is about as adept as your grasp of the facts.

Here it is

I am saying this based on no evidence whatsoever ither than the fact he was given the arse not long after.

And by the way it was held by "general consensus" for a long time that Lance Armstrong was clean and a legend in his sport.

Damn those blasted facts!!

And you can guarantee he is having a big say in every bloke we get this off season.

I agree, and if Neeld does not win at least 8 games this year, he should find out that he is sacked.

Firstly, you came out saying I had both statements incorrect but it is widely acknowledged that Neeld wanted Taggert.

It is also blindingly obvious that Neeld moved Prendergasts cheese but you're more willing to reference an article from the HS as gospel that BP resigned, just for the sake of goading me and basically labelling me a liar.

But then the conversation turns to two other potential recruits. One has superior endurance and skill, but the other is harder and tougher.

Neeld interrupts. His verdict offers the clearest insight yet into where he wants to take this club.

"Eighty thousand people, Queen's Birthday, Collingwood, Dane Swan belting the s--- out of us, who are you backing when the heat is on in the middle of the ground?" he demands.

The answers are fudgy so Neeld interrupts again: "I'm going with the grunt."

Just had a quick read of that article and one line really stood out to me...

“How many Facebook friends does he have, Burls? 1400? He likes to be liked,” he says.

That reminds me so much of that part in Moneyball when Brad Pitt's character is discussing how to replace some great players who just left the club and one of his recruiters made a negative comment about a potential recruit because he had an ugly girlfriend.

JCB, he should have the wind in his sails and will really need to up the on field performance.

I sure as hell hope that you are right...but few of us have had the opportunity to see if he can. Have you, or is this opinion "can really play" based on what you have read or heard?

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
