Operation Buddy

Heard today from a big Hawk fan that Buddy was set to sign until Freo offered to match the Hawk offer ($1.2m pa for four years) PLUS a guaranteed 10 yr role as an indigenous ambassador.

We wouldn't have a hope of landing him

Just saying

Hawks said they were offering $1m a year and wouldn't go higher. They said on that basis he becomes virtually a free agent. There were rumours Dockers would offer him $1.5m a year. If true he is probably going home.

I highly doubt Buddy would come to us, he's keen to stay at the Hawks anyway. But it is true, money can talk.

You never know, the Demons could have a much improved year this year and the other players will be looking at the ones who done the switch and want to get on the bandwagon as well.

But on the flipside, I don't want to see MFC being labelled as the 'talent buyer'. Constantly paying big bucks for other clubs talent.

Yes make a bid for him, Yes make sure the Hawks pay top dollar to keep him, but call it faith, loyalty or whatever you want. I can see Clark becoming just as big as Buddy and Cloke.

When you can pluck marks from a 1 on 1 contest almost every time the ball comes to you (which was pretty much round 1 to round 11) then your a forward you club should persist with, not replace by some show pony from Hawthorn.

I find this thread funny.

If you were H_T would you play for Hawthorn for $800 000

Freemantle $1 million or the MFC for $1 million?

Not a hard decision I don't think

Well od, there is no way I'd play for Hawthorn and you can jam it if you think I'd play for the Dockers.

Which leaves my team Melbourne. You're right, it's not a hard decision at all...

I think your heart is ruling your head H_T

I wish I had the youth and ability I would play for any of the three in a heart beat.

Unfortunately I am stuck in the real world.

Would you switch from a club where you have played all your career, won a flag and played in another GF

For a bit more money at the risk of a possible Gf appearance or very little chance in your time frame.

No I would stay where I was.

Buddy and Judd were Melbourne Supporters, and both have postponed contract talks.

Someone start a rumour suggesting the two are linked, and it should appear tomorrow in the Herald Sun as a headline.

actually this might be enough.

I would too if I was happy.

I can't speak for Buddy. But if you were offered $1.5million, $500K more a year than your current club, to come home and maybe even re-bunk with Wellingham in WA in a VIP pad with leather pads and mirrors. And meet with Gina Rhinehart now and then for lunch. No to mention allegedly more access to underworld figures. What would you do?

Who is to say Fremantle under Lyon isn't a good chance for the GF...? with Buddy?

i think you are right on the money there HT. WA Mining has more money than it can handle at the moment, although it is slowing.

Fremantle are an excellent Tax Break for the industry. Meth Coke take all the other business's.

2 team town works very well over there from my mail.

Fremantle will be desperate to find a replacement for Pavlich within a couple of years, makes sense that they would try for Franklin.

Fremantle will be desperate to find a replacement for Sandilands within a couple of years, too...

Fremantle will just be desperate, within a couple of years.

I'm not a fan of trying to build a team around a handful of stars. It hasn't worked for Freo, hasn't worked for Carlton, hasn't worked for Richmond. I'm still quite firmly convinced that the best use of trade and free agency is to bring in 'solid citizen' players who fill needs and will provide a reliable, AFL quality training and playing level.

As Collingwood and Hawthorn have both shown, you get success by bringing in additional quality players at the right moment, to fill the gaps after you first recruit your best talent by [not tanking].

Who would want a 25 yr old that bags around 80 a season.

just imagine the round one crowd if that did actually happen dreamers.

The marketing $$$ would set the club up for 10 years!!

HaHaHaha,,,, just like Moore & Templeton. I laughed, thanks WYL...

Seriously we should have a good hard look at Jeremy Cameron when he's up for contract. Don't worry about the Budweiser.

I tend to agree LG.

But we do need HQ talent to break open the game, but they don't have to be A+++. Just 'Aa' is enough.

GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs West Coast

It’s game day and the Demons return to Melbourne to play the Eagles at the MCG for the first time in over a decade. A win keeps the Dees finals hopes alive whereas a loss will almost certainly slam the finals window shut.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
