Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

in comparison to the other skills of the game, goalkicking is one of the easiest to fix. by training with the other forwards, as well as coaching from leigh brown, hogan could easily develop a new routine that would lead to more reliable kicking. if that's the only problem in his game then i don't think we have much to worry about if we pick him up

I don't think it is that easy; it would be great if we could to have a player like Cloke, Riewoldt or Richardson, but they have all suffered from an inability to convert over their careers and it has made them lesser players than Dunstall, Lockett and Carey for example. If it was that easy they would have fixed it.

When was the last truly reliable spearhead though? Lloyd? Even Franklin can be iffy in front of goal but I'm not going to turn my nose up at him or even Cloke or Riewoldt for that matter. No player is perfect and this guy can clearly hit the scoreboard even if he may have issues with accuracy at times. I want a big pack busting forward though who is ready to go from day one. They don't grow on trees so we have to strike while the irons hot. Otherwise we can sit here debating their merits while they to out and start kicking arse for another team.

I will be extremely disappointed of the club doesn't make a play for this kid and decides to use the pick on Grundy. I would rather have Patton than Kreuzer.

I would rather have Cotchin then Kreuzer or Patton which is why we should take O'Rourke instead

The thing, well a few things worry me about Hogan. Has he played any senior level football this year? I know he is in his first year at 18's level but Toumpas played in a senior premiership in the SANFL at that age. Is he really that good? question mark on his kicking for one thing and this is not easily fixed. Should we really risk a high draft pick on him? what can we get from this years draft that may be as good or better and a year advanced? Stringer, Toumpas, Macrea, Membrey etc.

beautiful kick of the ball.

Ultimately the club will decide whether he's worth pick 3. If they do, you'll have your answer.

His weakness is kicking for goal, but last weekend he kicked 4 goals straight in a preliminary final. Also, his field kicking is good. So if a player's field kicking is good I'm confident they'll be able to work out a couple of technical issues when it comes to goal kicking.

I wouldn't worry that he hasn't played against men, The men are thankful. I've read varying reports that he's 193 or 194cm and 93 or 97 kilos. Either way it doesn't really matter, as he'll run out in round 1, 2014 as a big agile aggressive unit approaching 100kg and ready to go.

Jack Darling is 19 and just kicked 50 goals. Jeremy Cameron is 18 and just kicked 30 in the worst team in the AFL. Hogan will be 19 and ready to go. If he's a star CHF at 21 you won't give a rat's toss bag that he didn't play in 2013.

The other thing to remember, is that the club will only bid pick 3 for Hogan if they believe he's going to be an out and out gun. A star. They won't do it if they think he'll be Tippett good, but because they think he'll be Jono Brown at his peak good, or Riewoldt good.

And for that type of player waiting a year is nothing.

Papers now saying GC keen on Jack Martin and won't give pick 2 for Tippett. If true it would seem they are unlikely to bid for JV. GWS can still do a deal for Hogan with us and then JV slips to 23. Here's hoping.

Is that assuming GWS take Grundy at #2? Because otherwise there's no reason they wouldn't take Whitfield & Toumpas.

The fact that they need more in the ruck division is a pretty good reason....

Especially if they lose Giles which seems likely.

They won't lose Giles. If a bloke who is small and didn't get a Brownlow vote is worth $1.2million a year, a 7 vote Ruckman who is the only big bodied one at the club, is worth his price of $300k. Of course the problem could be that the small guy has used up all the salary cap room. What a pity if true.

The Draft Combine had Jesse weighing in at 97.4 kilos. He also has a hand span of 24.8 centimetres, which is 0.3 less than ruckman Brodie Grundy.

He'd make a good boxer with that reach, for a big solid lad.

Thats Les Darcy like reach!

Thought it was a wing span chief.

So you thought 24.8 cm was the wingspan of a grown man, let alone a KP footballer, and also thought that'd be a great reach for a boxer?

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
