Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Cook gets a lucky free 20 metres out in front and misses. It does however, give Casey its highest score of the current finals series.

Let's be serious guys. Whoever our VFL team is, it's job is to develop MFC players. VFL results are irrelevant.

From a Melbourne perspective I thoroughly agree. I can see however there might be a differing view from the other side of the fence.

I however follow Melbourne

The VFL is essentially a development league. While Casey is aligned with the Dees their role is to develop Dees listed players and to provide VFL opportunities to talented young players from the outer south east of Melbourne.

I doubt Casey can survive as a stand alone VFL team. Their only viable future is as Dees and aligned VFL team with all footy appointments and recruiting decisions approved by the Dees. If there is resistance to that by people involved with Casey then we have to bite the bullet and fund our own standalone VFL team. And Casey can chance their arm as a standalone team.

We cannot compromise the development of our young players.

Same here. Got nothing against VFL footy, in fact there's a lot to like. But MFC is the first priority.

Aren't we signed to Casey for 30 years or something though? Or is that just the training base etc?

I can't see having our own standalone team would make one iota difference

you're all being over emotional

Reckon the only difference would be MFC would have less complaining to put up with in situations like this year when we pull players out. Oh, and the extra cash it would cost us...

No need to make the move IMO.

I think a stong cup of chamomile and some deep breathing will help everyone here before they begin launching into the issues once again.

So going out in straight sets with very few MFC players playing means we should forget about the alignment?

Do you people think before you post?

Honestly, I might have to start my 'list' again...

Note: Used to have a list of idiots in a thread...

Victoria:

AFL Clubs with standalone VFL teams: Collingwood, Geelong

AFL Clubs committed to introducing standalone VFL teams: Essendon, Richmond

AFL Clubs with 100% controlled VFL Alignments: Hawthorn, Carlton

AFL Clubs with VFL alignment partnerships: Melbourne, North Melbourne, St Kilda, Western Bulldogs (v shaky with Willy looking enviously at standalone arch enemies Port)

Interstate

AFL clubs with standalone NEAFL teams: Sydney, Greater Western Sydney, Brisbane, Gold Coast

SA/WA AFL Clubs who want standalone teams in SANFL/WAFL: Adelaide, Port Adelaide, West Coast, Fremantle.

Nup having a standalone team that allows you to fully control the development of your players is not really that important...

Just rewatched the half time conversation regarding Cook and Gysberts.

The abc vfl commentators said following.

Donegan: "Melbourne coach Mark Neeld has just had a bit of a chat to us about the situation with Lucas Cook and Jordan Gysberts. It did appear in the papers throughout the week and he seemed pretty disappointed with what appeared."

Rhys Jobes: "Yeah, yeah and both boys are still on the list and that's good signs for them and ah let's hope they can stay on there and produce in the last quarter (Rhys Jones confused that its half time) cause Casey needs them at the moment."

You really trying to suggest we don't control Casey after all the players we forced them to pull out before a semi final?.....

But no, you're right, it's not out poor drafting/development/coaching/resources/culture that has stopped us from being successful, it's all Casey's fault... lol

No i was stating the obvious that current AFL best practice is a fully controlled development team.

Disappointing end to the season for Casey, they'd had such a good year but to finish top 2 only to lose both finals and fall out in straight sets must be really heartbreaking for the Casey players.

Whether or not we should be fielding a standalone side, however, is a totally separate issue and has no bearing whatsoever on this result.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
