Unless there's some sort of boxing commission that judges the Bluey, it's safe to say Jones probably already has it framed and mounted in the pool room.

My problem is what are we going to do without him next year and beyond? Because if you look at the last 5 winners, poor form or the end came pretty swiftly after they won our B&F. Particularly the last 3 in Davey, Green and Moloney - who were all in pretty stellar form when they won it, then suddenly came to a screaming halt.

Seriously though, I don't believe in curses, well I do, but I don't (but I do) and you'd think with Jones' meteoric rise this season he'll go on to win a few more.

He has come a long way and is dominating in one of the worst midfields ever, which is a credit to him.

Watts and Grimes to poll well.

If Jones continues to develop he could end up an MFC great.

As for curses, yeah they could be real, but not in a footy sense. Jones will be fine.

The footy world caught up with Green, Davey and Moloney. Neeld's game plan was never going to suit any of them unless they lifted and for varying reasons they couldn't. I can't see that happening to Jones. However he will face more pressure next year and so needs Grimes, Trengove, Sylvia, McKenzie and whoever else he can find to lift and help him out.

Davey.... I just can't get it that a seasoned player with such sublime skills (when on song) is having such a crappy couple of years. Yes, he's had some injuries, but many would argue that his time on our list is nearly up. Should be an A grader, but so far from that now.

So Green, Davey and Moloney are headcases? What do you base this on? KNowing Moloney personally I find him a top bloke that stuffed up once. Has done a hell of a lot for the club and the new players that come in. You are correct about Jones, a quiet guy but is one of the nicest guys on the list.

I was probably a bit flippant with my initial comment. I believe that Moloney and Davey are downhill skiers & that Green played some extremely dumb footy last year as captain. I have no doubt that all three are top blokes who've done a lot for the club. However, I get the feeling that all 3 probably enjoyed the title, status & privelidge of being leaders more so than the actions required to be good ones.

Moloney is very good at barking instructions but only runs one way. Ditto Davey who also loses his cool & gets sucked in by taggers. Green demands the football from younger team mates (even if he is in a stupid position) and chastises them if they ignore him or make a mistake. I can't remember the last time any of the three laid a shepherd. All 3 display poor body language when the chips are down. I also feel that winning the B&F was bad for their careers because they all had the personality type to get big heads from it.

By contrast I think individual reward for Jones will encourage him to consolidate his hard work. He's a guy that's had to fight for his place in the team, even his career, he never gave up & I doubt he'll ever get complacent.

You might be right with Beamer and Davey, I think you are being unfair on Green. The game caught up with Green in his year of captaincy. It can happen after a good year. I recall Doggo Brown was touted for AA in 2004 for his play off the HBL but his lack of pace and fallability in the last line of defence made him a borderline player in 2005.

He is lucky he has a contract for 2013. Even then he could be rookied as i cant see him playing for MFC again on past 2 years form and attitude. Otherwise he is finished.

Rivers I would say was in target for second, but for the loss of Clark (who was himself in contention until injured), had to go forward for Neeld and maintain a semblance of structure.

I'd say Grimes then Howe. Wouldn't be surprised if Clark still finishes in top 5 !

Jordie would be the only other that I think could feature in the top 5, I reckon Neeld really likes his defensive efforts.

Grimes started slow but I really think his last 5 games or so have shown why he's so highly regarded and it's reminded me of his previous good year. Just so rapt for him that he's played all but one game and the only one he missed was because of suspension.

i agree, jones by how much, grimes and howe for the placings. my smoky would have to be trengove. on the surface he doesnt look like he has had a great year, but if they are judged by the job the coaches are asking him to do, then his stats suggest his been doing that. Second at the club for handballs and tackles and third for overall disposals. dont think he will win but i think he will go better than most would suggest.

It's amazing when you consider some here and at 'ology rated him a plodder and would even have traded him. Of course some of these prophets will now claim he hasn't got much to beat but his personal improvement is undeniable and he would walk into any AFL side.

Criticism was he is slow and he's not super quick but the work he engagaes in doesn't require it. His hands and disposal have improved 100% since he got to the club. He has developed a good engine and I can only marvel at how fit you would have to be to end up at the bottom of so many packs and still run every game out.

It will be a well deserved Bluey for the unofficial Captain.

Much though some on the board like to deny....it is a few good uninterrupted preseasons that has helped Jonesy...has the body and fitness base to compete...then the confidence...then the improved playing ability
