Round 23

The AFL has just released its fixture for Round 23 - view here.

Hawks Eagles Friday night at the G could be massive.

Essendon Collingwood Saturday night likewise - their first Saturday night game since 2002.

We've got the Saturday night slot against the Dockers to end a miserable, miserable season - fittingly, in most likely a miserable, miserable fashion.

Ugh, trust this season to torture me to the very end by ending on the day of my birthday.

I refuse to cancel my plans so I can watch us lose. First game I'll miss watching, probably ever.

Stupid stupid 2012 season!

I don't think that I've ever looked forward to a season ending before this year.

I've had that feeling for at least the last 3 seasons. I've been hanging out for the draft since quarter time in the first game of the year, that's when our season was officially over.

I watched that from Koh Samui. For some reason, I stupidly thought we wouldn't be too bad - we'd played poorly and led by two goals... How wrong I was.

I was in Samui watching that game too. Were you in the Aussie bar across the street from where Ark bar is?

I'll be in the stands at subi oval cheering for #18, and hoping for a decent showing from the boys. At least the dockers have a track record of blowing games they can't loose so I have some distant glimmer of hope!

I usually am able to enjoy just about every game we play. Even if we're losing, I can find some sort of positive to make the game somewhat enjoyable. I've watched every game from the past 5 seasons in it's entirety (yes, that includes 186), however, this season has just become too much. I was very optimistic during the preseason and even up to about round 4, but now I just want a break and don't want to see the Demons take to the field until they have a radically changed list. Bring on 2013....

I got to the 20 minute mark and realised it was going to go pear shaped. By half time, it was proven beyond any doubt.

What worries me more than anything is that I haven't been angry after any loss this year, I used to storm out of the ground all fired up and full of emotion but now I just walk out of the ground as if I'd been watching a B grade movie at a cinema.

    REDLEG PRIDE by Meggs

Hump day mid-week footy at the Redlegs home ground is a great opportunity to build on our recent improved competitiveness playing in the red and blue.   The jumper has a few other colours this week with the rainbow Pride flag flying this round to celebrate people from all walks of life coming together, being accepted. AFLW has been a benchmark when it comes to inclusivity and a safe workplace.  The team will run out in a specially designed guernsey for this game and also the following week

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm
