Gold: Jones, who is currently our only AFL-grade midfielder. Really deserved every available vote today.

Silver: Rivers, who can now play back and forward, but whose ability to read the ball in the air is much better suited to the backline, since that's where the ball is most of the game.

Bronze: McDonald, for his great defensive job on Anonymous North Forward #3

3: Green, who provided a target most of the day, but is just too old and too short to be our go-to guy.

2: Frawley, who played a fairly admirable role on Petrie.

1: Nicholson, who gave us some much needed spread from the contest.

6. Jones- We know what to expect with this guy. I don't even want to think about how bad we would be without him.

5. McDonald- Will be an AA one day.

4. Nicholson- Getting better by the game, and his disposal is improving.

3. Green- 3 goals in his 250th... deserves some votes in my book.

2. Howe- Great first half but faded out of it in the 2nd. Nice mark at the end.

1. Rivers- Not his best game, but I can't think of anyone else who deserves this final vote.

That's a lot of votes. With a conservative estimate of 3 votes a game, Jones should crack the 200 this year. What's the highest tally someone's had for this award?

It's also a reflection on our season that he leads the voting by more than 100. Jones has truly carried this team on his shoulders and I think he deserves whatever he asks for when he's at the contract table.

Another sad thing about these standings is that the person in second place (Mitch Clark) has missed a third of the season. This is a real indicator that the majority of our players aren't pulling their weight.

And also that anyone who does pull their weight doesn't do it consistently. If Jones gets six votes every week, someone has to get five, but it's obviously not the same person every week.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
