plodder inside mids- bate, gysberts, mckenzie, trengove

good outside mids-

plodder outside mids- bail, grimes, jetta, davey

The introduction of viney will help the cause of the inside mids.

I have faith that grimes, trengove and mckenzie will all take a massive step up next year but our glaring black hole in the middle is our run and spread.

I think it much more important to address the need for sp...pace as a higher priority than another plodder inside mid whose only real currency seems based on his conditioning after 2 extra years in the system. is this not why we got the guru misson on our books?

if we give up one of our first rnd picks for caddy i will be bitterly bitterly disapointed.

maybe bundle caddy and charlie dixon together for our pick 13 and troy davis but thats only because charlie dixon is a beast and we are also in desperate need of tall forwards

Pick 13 isnt a good price for a guy who is yet to prove himself when you are more than likely, not 100% to get a very good player if not great player inside the top 13/15 come draft day.

The draft comparison is not valid. Look at the failures many clubs have made in the draft over the last 5-7 years when it comes to Top 20 picks.

I'd like to make it clear that I wouldn't be completely happy giving up Pick 13 for Caddy and, like I've mentioned (but it's been ignored as everyone is now narrow minded on the fact that "OMG we can't take Caddy at #13 he's done nothing" train of thought) there could be other aspects to a deal before it's even done. We could trade Pick 13 for a player and Pick 17 for example and so forth until we had the pick we thought was fair... if, as reported, we have some interest.

I would rather take a punt in the draft than settle for the second best/safe(ish) option in Caddy.

I think a lot of clubs would be happy to part with players equal to Caddy in ability for pick 13, but that's just my opinion.

I can agree not very player drafted high will work, i dont think Caddy would be in many top 8 teams on his current form, can you count on him improving more or less than a highly rated kid?

I just dont want to trade anything more than he is worth, when he wont take us forward unless he improves or recognises his talent which is harder said than done.

Peopel seem to think he is more likely to do this bacause having a big made body is flavour of the month and one particular player we didnt draft is having success with this.

He has proven he can play midfield in the AFL in a crap team against significantly better opposition most weeks. He has proven he has the body to match it with more senior players. And most importantly he has proven he can kick multiple goals a game, something which none of our midfielders bar maybe Jones is capable of to date.

Is he Gary Ablett Jr.? No, and he's not even Nathan Jones, but getting him at pick 13 would be about right. It probably won't be enough though as I have a feeling either Carlton, Richmond or Saints will offer a pick just before ours and Geelong will also offer their inactive compo pick, something which is of worth to the Suns considering they have to downsize their list this year so they can bank the pick for next year.

i'm guessing you saw plenty of his u/18 games and fell in love...he might make it, i certainly don't wish him any harm, but getting him in the PSD or rookie draft is much more befitting his PERFORMANCE as an AFL PLAYER and he has not shown enough at the AFL level to warrant giving up players or picks. If Tippett goes I have a feeling he will go to the club that can get the "deal done" with the least amount of hassle ( ala Clark last year) - damn confident Adelaide is resigned to the fact they will lose him.

This deal opens the door from Brisbane to trump Gold Coast offer with pick 8 & 2nd rounder. Think Adelaide will want to try to get a ready made replacement ie Grundy.

Again if Tippet goes. I think its safe to assume we will get Viney in the 2nd round, because we have the pivotal pick 4 that if given to Brisbane or GC would get the deal DONE. Alternative for Gold coast is to burn pick 2 assuming they still have it - . Gold Coast have a simple choice bid for Viney and lose Tippett & a 17 YO. Gold Coast must declare their hand first.

I think we have a preference to deal with Gold Coast - we have declared an interest in Caddy. However, obviously we will not put our cards on the table till after the father and son bidding process is complete.

At the end of the day think the Tippet deal (if it happens) will make a big impact on where Joshs plays next year. We have a very strong partner in Adelaide we both share a mutually beneficial outcome, we have a very strong relationship with Adelaide off field (Craig & Viney).

Another side note - ironically after the Brock Tanking [censored] - Melbourne are going to play everything by the BOOK. Technically its illegal to make pre-trade period agreements and frowned upon by the AFL. Hence we have told Gold Coast sorry we have to play it by the book this year of all years. MELBOURNE will not enter into any pre-trade period deals. Gold Coast "vial" threat is just that as Harrington has said " we will not take players out of sequence. Our fans would demand that." In essence Gold Coast your "threat" has massive implications for you.

If Gold Coast want to f us over and act like little "kiddies" well thats their prerogative. However, the alternative is to act like mature adults and negotiate a win-win-win deal in due time under the laws stipulated by the AFL.

You do realise he has played 13 games for an avg 1.4 kicks and 2.2 handballs? How is wasting a pick, even a 3rd rnd, a good idea? We would be better off keeping morton!

I've watched his career through school footy and watched several games when he was playing with the Knights and I'll tell you this:

He is just as intimidating and competitive and in love with the contest as JV is....

This has to happen for us.
