AFL will have our back on this one, pretty sure some special consideration or something can be applied for and put in place to

A. Ensure that he isn't de-listed and has a future in the AFL and

B. If the worst outcome does happen, we wont be caught out by it and will not be at a dis-advantage. And if that outcome isn't good, it would still mean that there is still a possible future beyond him serving time.

It would almost be a good idea for the AFL to create a new list called a 'Consideration list' or something which players can apply to be on. Few rules around it could include that they are not allowed to play any senior games while on the list to keep things fair for other teams and to stop it being abused.

I dont think any AFL team would oppose an idea like that.

How do I say this without being considered racially challenged. Much is made of the notionthat the indigenous ought not be treated any different yet that flies inthe face of just about evvery other consideration the league proffers.

Maybe there does indeed have to be some special basket into which such cases get put. If the AFL wants to be 'inclusive' they also have to faciltate "exclusive"

There sort of has to be some sort of "time out " for extenuating circumstances.

I find it hard to believe that the MFC would not have considered every possibility by now.

I would be exceedingly surprise if the subject has not been discussed with the AFL.

The last thing the MFC / AFL would want is to be seen to be doing the wrong thing by an indigenous player.

For better or worse LJ is on the Melbourne list until this matter reaches a conclusion.

IMO if that is some time in 2013 than that is what will happen.

I don't think there would be many who thought that a player would willingly move to a Rookie List, and I don't even know whether they have changed how one gets on the RL apart from through the Rookie Draft.

The second point is the one I don't think many have thought about.

It is now 10 weeks since the injury and to my knowledge he has not had surgery.

Almost no comment by the club seem strange to me.

Plenty of players have continued to play while facing trial for various incidents. There is nothing new in this. The issue is whether he is fit to play, whether he can get some form in the dewies and earn a spot in the ones.

His frame of mind will be important but from everything I have read including Martin Flanagan's excellent articles, LJ is well equipped to deal with the off field scrutiny.

He is less likely to end up in jail now, after so many mixed evidence, than he was before we heard from all the witnesses.

We sign him up for a year, support him through this, and worry about the rest as it happens.

There is a precedent of sorts with Adam Ramanauskas; Essendon were allowed to move him from the main list back to the rookie list. The two situations are radically different but, if it has been done before, it can be done again.

That being said, I can't see any way that Liam is going to be convicted of any charge other that the one of carrying a weapon. There is simply too much conflicting evidence and serious doubt about anybody's involvement in the whole mess for any jury to convict him on any of the assault charges. As to the weapons charge, just put your hand up and say to the judge and jury that if they were walking around Yuendumu at night, they'd be carrying one too.

Interesting bit of evidence from a passenger in the van Basil Jurrah arrived in with 8 mates. The vans are called "troop carriers" by the locals. The witness said that in the van were nulla nullas, machetes and other weapons.

Contrast that with Basil's evidence of he came with three mates unarmed to visit a cousin. Also he had been drinking for 12 hours when the incident occurred.

Contrast that again with evidence of two of the other victims who said Basil was armed with a machete, was the instigator, that Liam didn't hit them and that he acted in self defence in relation to Basil.

Then this last bit of important news that a co accused will plead guilty to the serious charge that Liam has been charged with.

Lastly we have only heard from the Prosecution side so far as the Defence don't run their case at Committal and to date the prosecution case is a shambles. Also the Magistrate said there was some evidence to send him to trial which is not the test. The test is " is the evidence capable of leading to a conviction" which is based on "beyond reasonable doubt".

The Defence QC is entitled to feel extremely confident.

Liam will not be delisted.

Why would MFC not presume innocence, and re-sign our most exciting player? Do we imagine, after that apparent shambles of prosecution testimony, that Liam's legal counsel have quietly told the club to expect a conviction?

His injuries do not appear to be career-threatening, and he is in his prime. The nearest to an unstoppable match-winner that we have. With what story would the club explain discarding him now?

Should we get rid of Grimes too - we can imagine he may get injured....? And maybe - who knows what? Look what's happened to Clark, and all that money thrown at him. Come on Demons, stop exposing us to all these RISKS!

Shame on you, those who would canvas the idea of the club walking away from Liam Jurrah at this point.

Hadn't he injured his wrist first and it was operated on and then injured his ankle or may be other way around. Hasn't it been reported here that he has been running laps at training so his ankle must be "nearly" ok to go. The Club will know whether he in himself is ready to return to playing. Would anyone here be ready to play AFL with this type of charge hanging over you? I dont believe so. If he is fit physically and mentally let him play but until then keep him on the injured list. Liam at his best is a marquee player and we all know how we felt when he was flying. To have him and Howee flying - two marquee players - will be great for the Club. We will need players like them next year for their marketable talents alone after this shite year. I agree with others here the AFL and MFC will have had considerable discussion as to how to handle this situation. We do have a couple of brownie points at AFL with our handling of Mifsud saga so I would say that the AFL true to form will manipulate the rules to allow Liam to continue to be on the List without penalising the MFC.

robbie since his debut in round 12, 2009 he has played 36 games out of possible 72 anticipation rate of 50%

In those 36 games he has kicked 81 goals or 2.25 per game.

He seems to take a long time to get over injuries.

He took 9 months to recover from a wrist injury and so far 10 weeks from an ankle injury.

He is either the unluckiest player going round or the slowest healer going round.

In spite of all that I would give him another contract.

It is not as other we are blessed with an abundance of good forwards

But I do wonder if he will ever get to display his talents much in the future

I worry about his longevity
