Let's not forget he had a manager who is now renowned for not being the best decision maker going around.

I can't help but feel Nixon in some way contributed in the fallout with Bruce and club.

Bruce's contract was one of the last Nixon negotiated.

cant agree with you OD. Cam did his usual trick of wanting a better deal than warranted and this time was called out for it. Previously he was paid overs in a big way.

Quite frankly whilst he will of course be welcomed back to the club as a past player I really couldnt give a fig. He rolled the dice a number of times. He can wear it.

A very over rated player in th emain , esp after his coming together with a certain other player.

Some may see this as harsh., I just dotn see all of MFC history through ultra rosey glasses.

It seems far fetched to me. Bruce was an adult in his 30s with intelligence and a strong commercial sense. If we were talking about a dopey 19 year old kid like Tom Scully it might carry some weight, but not in this case.

Here's a thing. Is it Bruces fault that towards the twighlight of his time at Melbourne he was being overpaid? Clubs have to pay 92.5% of their salary cap. Would people have preferred the money going to a lazy Yze or some other even flakier player. We obvioulsly don't have any current stars and Davey finds himself being grossly overpaid. Is that his fault ? I'll always fondly remember shouting "Cameron the Bruce" at the MCG as a kid and whilst he did in later years master the hospital handpass he was consistently a B+ player with occasional moments of brilliance and for that I salute him.

He was an elite runner with a great professional attitude. And has his place in Demonland (hence the mention of his pre-Guerra 2005 form) but he left.

Cam was rarely beaten one on one and he demolished a few big names during the course of his years with us. He was a good player who would still be in consideration if he'd remained with us and apart from the odd poor disposal he would have been a big help to the younger kids on the team.

I said some time ago that he would never be a Hawthorn player and would struggle to be a Melbourne person again; I hope he is and I hope he comes back to the fold.

Have loved watching Cam Bruce don the red and blue, go into battle representing our club, his team and fans for over 200 times! One of the players who you knew each and every week was going to put in for 10 or so years. I hope Cam is proud of his achievements and hears nothing but respect from fans who he played for not the rubbish you see on here sometimes.

Here is to you Cam Bruce, 234 games of AFL footy, 211 goals, almost 4,500 touches of the footy at the highest level along with 46 Brownlow votes.

I just saw this on the RealFooty site. It's very sad to hear this. Cam didn't leave the club in the best of circumstances but he did give great service when he was here. All the best Cam for life after footy!

Reckon this is a good example to younger players about the advantages of being a one club player.

Sure he'll be remembered as a Demon, and we appreciate him, but had he stayed at the club he could have retired with a bit more love from supporters etc.

As it is, it's a bit of a "nothing" moment as opposed to being celebrated by your club upon retirement.

We've got a great history of players holding off negotiations till seasons end and then trotting out names of interested clubs through the media.

Few seem to show loyalty by signing the dotted line before their current contract is up, putting pressure on the club in the off season to give in to their demands or watch them walk for nothing.

Talk about a gravy train for good-ordinary.
