Trading our First two Picks for Beams & Wellingham

Ohk I pose the question would you give up our first 2 picks in the draft to collingwood for Beams and Wellingham

Answer with a reason and opinion as to yes or no

Melb gets an A Grader in Beams and possibly B+ player in Sharrod.

we know they can play and dont need to risk picking a dud in the draft

Jones, Beams, Wellingham, Viney, Gysberts, Trengove, Mckenzie, Sylvia

Looking like a good midfield now with depth

While collingwood saves cash and gets 2 early gun 18 year olds on a min wage which will free up their salary

I'd like to have them both but would hate for the pies to not have to bottom out as much and go through the crapper like we have.So I'll take beams and keep the other pick.

i wouldnt give up pick 12 for Wellingham so no, and pick 4 for Beams is huge to give up.

He havnt drafted fantastically but as is always said, picks 3 and 4 are where the Pendlebury's Judds and Cotchins of this world come from, not the Beams and Wellinghams

Why? Have you heard Clokes signed, & words around the pies are looking to trade?

Just giving possible scenarios.

And to think Goldsack and Wellingham should be at the saints, stupid Ross Lyon

And stupid Saints.

Lose Lose Lose, & so say all of us.

Not bad proposal in all i think. Both Beams and Wellingham are top mids who would add to our midfield. But in a perfect world would rather trade pick 3 for Boak and pick 4 for Beams with the addition of Viney. We cant afford to wait for players we people that are ready to go!!!!

Nah.

Beams is the real deal, and I'd love him at the Dees. Don't mind Wellingham, but he's the type the shines in a good team, not sure how he'd go amongst our garbage.

Way too big of a price to pay.

Maybe for Beams, Wellingham and Reid.

Beams and Wellingham are good mids in a top mid-field (4th and 5th in line probably). Big gamble to draft them and expect them to perform as they do at the filth, where Pendlebury, Swan and Sidebottom get the tags. Not worthy of 1st rounders IMO.

Collingwood aren't going to trade these blokes.

They don't need top picks, they are firmly in the 'premiership window' and most of their best players are still relatively young.

Plus, they have a good history of picking up good players with lower picks.

Apart from salary cap reasons, trades like this just aren't going to happen.

No, I think we can do better at the draft. Viney with say a Toumpas, Wines or Vlastuin added to Grimes, Jones, Trengove, Howe, McKenzie and a developing Gysberts, Blease and Taggert will give us a lot of class, run and grunt in the mids.

I'm a believer in developing our own with a key trade when the right fit is there (Clark is it for me), but not trading high picks. Our history of development hasn't been that great recently I know but if we haven't got it right now then we are history.

Wellingham's a no. A middling player made to look better in a class midfield.

Beams I have to admit is A-grade quality and would probably be worth considering pick 4. Still, he's only 'put it all together' for three quarters of one season so far. Probably you'd want to see him do it next year as well before taking such a huge punt.

Not interested in Beams so a no for me.

Funnily rnough I'd be more interested in Wellingham. And for him I'd trade our pick 13 with Petterd for Sharrod and their first round pick.

So as far the question, no I wouldn't trade our first 2 picks for either of them.

Beams I'm not convinced could habndle being a number 1 midfielder, and while I think Sharrod would be a handy role player, he isn't worth pick 4.

Edit: Spelling

No chance. Beams is a good player in a good team. I wouldn't be so confident that he could play like he does in a struggling side like Melbourne. Wellingham is not the type of player we need. We need muscle and skill not just skill. Skill hasn't taken us where we want in recent time (Morton).

Bad idea better off building our own team. We have to trust our new footy department in developing a quality side.

And btw we are starting to see some quality in our younger players anyway. (Blease is full of talent just needs a bigger tank)

Tom McDonald is a quality backman, Strauss is a very good kick as is Watts, Trengove adds grunt along with Jones. Have faith people

I agree with most of what you have said.

The FAITH thing is just about worn out.

I will believe when I see it not 1 minute earlier

All these trading posts, they are great for keeping us interested in a year that has been dead since round 1 but really what player would want to come to us. Mitch Clark was a big win but I'm sure Mitch thought Melbourne was knocking on finals in 2012 after two 8 win years, no matter which way the club sugar coats our season we are woeful and don't seem to be going anywhere fast. The only players that will look to come to Melbourne in the 2012 trade period are fringe players.

Agree OD... it is not about us having faith, but rather it's about them making the necessary effort. Faith is for those who like to believe everythinjg is determined for them by a higher power, whereas I prefer to believe that we control our own destiny.

WORST. SUGGESTION. EVER.

While I like Wellingham as a player, he's not worth what you're proposing to give up.

Nor is Beams, as he's not just overrated but he's also a culture cancer.

A strong club like Collingwood can keep him in line, but at a club where we are attempting to build a strong culture, that move would be lunacy.

Surely certain things haven't been kept that secret that no one realises this?

Not amongst ppl I know, at least.

In any case, Neeld spent enough time at Collingwood for me to be supremely confident that we will never even attempt to bring him across.

Dream time is over boys.

Be very wary of players who look a treat but may be just glowing under the light of a star...

The Heffernan Theory © is something that is difficult to assess and painful to watch when it happens.

Where does this fascination with all things Collingwood come from?

I'd have Boak before both these blokes, give Beams the no. 1 tag each week and see how he goes. It's easy to fly under the radar when you're 5th and 6th best in a top line midfield, when Ball gets back they're 6th and 7th best.

NO and NO

Gee I'm so glad we took James Strauss ahead of Dayne Beams. What a brilliant decision that has been.

Wellingham strikes me as a complete front runner!

Beams is a gun and would be the perfect fit for us - but unlikely he will leave Collingwood to come to us.

We have the money, but Collingwood are already at the forefront of premiership success and will be for the next few years.

Beams will stay at Collingwood, they dont really lose players.

I think we'd be more of a chance at snaring Caddy from the GC, he will be a good player down the track,

probably not as good a fit as Beams in that he doesnt have as much polish - but has grunt, an ability to find the pill and a lot of upside.

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.
