Any excuses for allowing Sheedy to slate us with no retaliation?

You love The Ox, good for you, and you will see the good in everything he does. I loved The Ox, but was disappointed with his form last year, and wouldn't be surprised if some within the Club felt the same. However, they may feel the same as you. None of us will ever know, so it will always be your opinion and my opinion.

The only difference between your opinion on this matter and mine is that mine is in all likelihood the right one.

I'm sure no-one at the club is disappointed with the two compo draft picks we have in November, when it could so easily have been one.

How can you say this? Everyone called him a liar (not with that exact word) except for RPFC and me! I don't know 1 media personality that did believe him. Any journo that wrote an article saying that he is leaving are bascially calling him a liar, as he told the media that he hadn't been approached by GWS.

from a journo perspective he was far from alone, but from an MFC perspective he was the only one with a media profile who had the balls to step on T$'s precious little toes while everyone else was going to extraordinary lengths to heap praise on his character. theres a difference between saying "i reckon he will go" and saying that your a 98% sure of it

Meanwhile it would be great to see the Nureyev of footy back in the fold

that passage of play is in my all-time favourite MFC moments !!

It was always fantastic to see Swarta

You knew when he played he always played with passion

and who could forget the game on his return there was a real atmosphere in the air the first time he ran for the ball and the exhalation when he turned and kicked was one of the most exciting times at the G

It was cruel that he was affected by the punt

and inspirational that he has apparently overcome that demon

He may feel difficult at the club because of his existing media role

but he should know he will always be welcomed among and by the supporters.

Hopefully there will be atime when he is able to join with his fellow players and they can all revel in the success they had which leads to even greater success for the club

A flag heals many wounds I would think.

This is re-writing history. No one-called him a liar. An overwhelming number of people and posters on here believed what he said. Save for myself, Bezelbub and maybe a couple of others. That was it.

From memory, only a few journos - Barrett, Stevens from memory - intimated he was leaving.

The Ox was the only one who came out in the media and said he was he was gone with his carefully worded 98% comment.

When i heard the Ox make his 98% comment i knew $cully was gone. I didn't want to believe it & truly hoped T$ would prove it wrong

But deep down i knew Schwarta had been told by a very good source.

And you never name a very good source. There is no need to.

Mike Sheehan never believed him, fat Robbo never believed him, the list goes on and on.

By the way, there's a 98% chance I'll win lotto this weekend. I'll allow myself that 2% get-out clause just in case I don't buy a ticket.

Don't be so sure Billy

The Billy Barrot / Ian Stewart trade story eventually came out and it was quite "interesting"

Well you won't Billy don't put us all in the same category.

And please answer the question...Why should David Schwartz reveal his sources??

To his face! And no, not every journo did or has aknolwedged his lying. Some still sit on the fence despite that fact that his dad had a job oiffer from GWS at the same time Tom was saying his side had heard from no one at GWS.

A slew of them came and said words to that effect but only after the Ox had laid his cojones on the line.

The second sentence in your post is just dumb. If the Ox had've got his 'call' wrong no-one would've ever taken any 'revelation' of his seriously again.

His source was impeccable and proved to be so. He said himself he couldn't say '100%' as he hadn't actually seen with his own eyes Tom Scully's signature on the GW$ playing contract.

I am sure it will, and I am sure the source that told Schwarz will come out to.

I know that one thing burnt into RR's brain (which he has admirably not mentioned yet) is rpfc refering to 'David effing Schwarz' and the implication that it was a insult to the guy.

It wasn't meant as such, it was more to do with the sudden propulsion of Schwarz into a Bob Woodward (pre-Bush) type journo. It still rankles with me, but maybe that is partly to do with the state of journalism in general.

With that out of the way I don't want this to be his legacy - for good or bad. He should be remembered for showing the footy early in THAT Carlton game (I think it was that game) and Malcolm Blight saying "I think it stinks!"

And for 94, and for the stupid game at CHB when he had 25 touches in the first half against WB and we still lost...

Anyone who heard Ox interview Tom Scully after he left for GWS would applaud him for calling Scummy out. He is still the ONLY media person I have heard to call him a liar (not with that exact word) and when challenged by the little Weasil he even offered to give up his source in private. I would imagine it would therefore be someone TS knows.

You could feel the discomfort from the Scummy side of the interview. Ox had months of calls from Melbourne supporters sweating on his decision leading up to it and he knew the truth even though no one wanted to blieve it. You could tell that OX was fithy on him for the way he'd lead us all up the garden path.

Who was this interview with? i must have missed it but would have been fascinated to hear it. You know if you can still listen to it?

It was on SEN the day $cully left. The Ox did not let him off lightly.

Similar to the interview he did with aker after Stynesy's death. F$&@k he was furious.

IIRC Schwarz stated that he heard from 3 different sources, one was from the club, one from his workplace (both he and Matt Granland from memory got news of it same time) the other from someone at GWS. The 2% was the Ox not having seen the signature himself. And that interview with The no.1p_rick, the Ox did offer to tell him his source(s) off-air.

I can appreciate your 'effing Schwarz' comment was taken out of context at the time, Rpfc. It's being 'lost in translation' was I think caused by it being said among a backdrop of posts that actually were vehemently anti-Schwarz. The guy's reputation on this site was taking an absolute hammering at the time.

For what it's worth, my opinion of 'journalism' - particularly football 'journalism' has probably changed somewhat since that time as well. Not that I ever held any of them to be pre-Bush Woodward-Bernstein Pulitzer prizewinning laureates, but any 'respect' that I once may have had has been greatly eroded. There's only a few that I would take up any personal time reading and actually 'digesting' now. Too many 'leading analysts' like David King and Luke Darcy have entered the fray.

Anyway, I agree ... let's all remember David Schwarz not for his stand on that little punk who plays for a crap McFranshise club in woop-woop, but for the Nureyev pirouettes and his showing the footy at Calrton players before roosting a goal into the top deck of the Southern Stan during the 1994 finals.

Is this the bit where we both stand up at the head-of-the-five-families table and embrace ... Godfather style?

Said in a husky Marlon Brando voice ... "I forgo the vengeance of my ego on the Scully affair ... and swear that I will not be the one who will break the peace we have made here today."

Does anyone know if Schwartz went to Jimmys funeral? Im sure he will be welcome at the club. I thought he would had been back with Jimmy as president but I guess Jimmy also had other htings to worry about.

I hope he does come back some day and be welcomed back. He was great to watch and I was shattered when he retired. But im glad his life has turned out great for him now.

That would be the 2000 qualifying final vs. Carlton. I remember it well as I was sitting in the front row of the top level of the southern stand and the ball came very close to us.

Loved the arrogance. I mentioned this to Schwarz this morning.

Yes...weve missed that Steely, Bull at a Gate hardness at the ball . A sense of taking a game by its scruff. Neeta did it too. im starting to see a little in Mitch.

Ox definitely a fav. Not just for his ability to play footy, but the desire to stay on the padddock.

It was indeed a different era .

I hope David finds his way home...the real one...the Red and Blue one ;)

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
