Vacancy for 2013 the number 10 jumper

He made some mistakes. Let me ask you this. Would you rather he didn't get the ball so he didn't make a mistake or would you rather he work hard and learn the new system and make mistakes in the process?

The difference between the 2 teams tonight was kicking skills and playing to a well drilled game plan. Our endeavor, and Cale's, was good but we dont have the natural game down yet.

What a weak excuse of a player, I have thought it and said it before but seriously his ability to shirk contests went to a all time high tonight.

He should be told tonight that unless he drastically changes he will never play for MFC again.

And this is not even going on about his terrible disposal.

Cale's biggest problem is he fears being hurt, he needs to work on this or he will always referred to or remembered as a coward.

Let's all just calm down.

He made some poor decisions but he tries hard to get uncontested footy - while more capable and more experienced players are happy to stay in their shell and not risk getting lambasted the way Morton is when he screws up.

He is far better this year than last.

There are a couple of players that fear being hurt on our list, yet Neeld will find a niche for all of them.

At least Morton ran hard - at times, it wasn't his fault as everything was stagnant ahead of him.

Ha! I've done my best to change my mind on this guy this year, but he keeps putting up games like today...

Ohhhhh but he's an "elite runner", and "outside player" with "silky skills"..... No. He's not ANYTHING.

See ya Morts.

The amount of times he shirked contests, did not go into a contest or shat himself and fumbled cos people were near him was over the top. He either gets harder ie Thomas at the pies who was soft, or we trade him, but his efforts in close when he had to go were simply inexcusable

I cant believe what some people are posting about Morton. He is one of the few that have improved this year.

Some of his turnovers are terrible however what were his choices? If our players were running to position he would not need to attempt pin point passes on his left.

He will be a very valuable player for us as we improve over the next couple of years.

Surely you would be used to the stupidity by now haha, if we lose Morton has to cop a spray from the supporters

He took the game on, and even broke tackles despite being built like an anorexic 12 year old (side note: where was the spray for the filth player/s that let that happen Buckley? will be tarred and feathered at training tomorrow no doubt)

given that his disposal was genuinely terrible at times today, why exactly would you not go on about that as opposed to having a crack at an area in which he has vastly improved?

Good point. Cale could be a Dale Thomas type. But does he have the ticker??

Dale Thomas is a class act.

I love these threads. Watch someone else start a "we love Morton" thread in 3 weeks time.

His clangers are infuriating. And so are everyone else's turnovers.

He was wonderful in the first quarter. He did a few crappy things as the game wore on, but he was one of the only players who actually did anything in the first quarter when everyone else couldn't buy a touch.

What a disgraceful excuse for an OP. Why don't you pay out Moloney for his effort, or Sylvia for his meaningless shirtfront before you go to town on a young guy who was (by and large) one of our hardest-working and valuable players today?

Good old Strawberry Fields

Morton's is having the best year he's ever had, so he made a mistake, he ain't the only one.

Picture. Big. Observe

Why are all the Morton lovers defending his "one mistake" like that's why some people thought he had a bad game?

I think he was pretty ordinary overall, not just the turnovers. He's too much of a spectator, and doesn't add anything to our team.

He's soft as they come, so people say he's an elite runner. He doesn't win his own ball, so people say he's an outside player.

He has made small steps of improvement this year, but IMO, so far not enough to be kept on.

Should be dropped just like Watts, Green, Davey, Sylvia etc have when not playing well. Same rules for every player.

lol... not only are you still drunk after the footy but obviously you're still drinking

I don't drink, so perhaps you're the one who's mistaken.

But this is quite literally the worst and most insulting thread I've ever read. The mere fact that heaps of people are blindly backing it up with the age-old "Morton's soft and carn't kick" line is absolutely shameful. If Cale gets dropped for this performance, I might just shoot something and/or go barrack for GW$ or something equally nuts.

I'm a person of extremes but for the first time ever I think I'll sit on the fence on this one. There are a number of really frustrating aspects to morts such as the fact he is a no 3 draft pick who hasn't done a lot in 5 years, his disposal is poor,he's soft and he makes awful clangers. However in saying all that he has improved this year and shown signs that he will perhaps become the outside runner we so greatly need. I don't know. Maybe he gets the rest of this year in the seniors and then re-evaluate???

And a big congratulations to all who "cheered" him off the ground after it.

I didn't know we had so many high-school twats in the MCC. Did you guys rush to your phones and type "SPUD" into your Facebook status?

Give me a spell ...

Why? Deserves to get dropped. Not delisted as some are suggesting (yet anyway), but same rules for everyone, drop him to find form and confidence.

Because his errors stem from nerves and lapses in concentration. Lowering the pressure level by putting him in the VFL is counterproductive to our goal of developing our players and would show a clear lack of trust and faith in Morton's abilities, which is the last thing he needs right now.

Why would we get rid of morton? I don't see cohorts of a-grade mid's challenging him for his spot. Better morton than bennel's usual 3 possession contribution or bate's oil tanker mobility.

No leave him in the 1st's...its plainly good enough to play some 'good" footy as that will whitewash all the rubbish and insipid efforts let alone the unforgivable clangers. Some mistakes will happen.. but some are just too atrocious to be overlooked and rewarded with demotion.

If he is indeed EVER going to become what some hope then tough love is needed, and not for the first time.. Do we all remember his medicine when he squibbed ?

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
