Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I enjoyed posting on Ology but in the end I just got sick of the crap you had to go through every time you did. As I said there were too many just waiting to score points and get back at someone over a matter that may have arisen in another thread months before.

It is a shame as some of the posters that used to post regularly just don't bother any more and haven't gravitated over here.

I would bet that, like Stakka, there have been a few sig changes, and many of those old 'Ology posters are still about.

True Faulty I'm sure that some have come on here hoping to bury their past.

I'm sure that Ology will continue it's a good site and has some very good posters, Chook being one of them. I must say I have a look over there to see your bro take up the good fight on the general board and have a laugh as he tears the othere a new one.

I see I still rate a few mentions over there from time to time, such is life.

Demonology will always be home.....i don't contribute there like i used too.... because it lost its way unfortunately due to Timmy's illness.

But nothing beats the old days....'land and Bigfooty wish they could be like the old days of Demonology.

I too am an old 'Ology user. It was fantastic, i was one of the 1st to sign up and old days were great. I moved when I found myself wanting to meet people just because i found them so rude. Other than the Racing Tips I wont miss it.

I'm sure Strawberry Fields will welcome any refugees from 'Ology with no hard feelings

Worth remembering at this time that 'ology & 'land have been as one in the past through player sponsorship and forum footy. In fact I played my last ever game in a forum footy match that confirmed the next day that I was done! I fail to see why any of us would want to harp on negatives, run it down, or highlight the disaffection for 'land of one particular Demonologist. DC!

I think our mate Rollo predicted the demise of 'ology years back when general discussion was banished from the main board. It was the reason I think that 'ology was an edgier place and it' s been in decline for years since and more so with Tim being unable to run it.

I still find there is great (infrequent) discussion there so hopefully posters will be encouraged to come over if it does eventually die! I don't think the argy bargy there was any worse than what it can be here and it needs to be kept in perspective that these are forums for 'discussion' even if it's sometimes purile.

Poor old 'ology.

It's like the hotel in The Shining.

Near deserted and only populated by old ghosts.

But it was once the premier Demons site.

It would be nice if we could have multiple fan sites, like some other clubs that I can't bear to mention.

Should have explained myself better as I don't want to come across antagonistic. I don't think Ology posters (even TGR really) hang any dung on 'Land anymore, and haven't for years. Certainly back in the day we (I say we as I was as guilty as the next) were arrogantly dismissive of this site. The perception, rightly or wrongly, was Ology was for the smart posters who'd been around the block a few times and 'Land was for Gen Y who hadn't been jaded by 50 years of no success.

But that's old news. Ology started struggling when posters like Hannabal, Sleeve, Rollo, Knackers and Mick Rocks lost interest for whatever reason. Losing the functionality to take on new posters just fast tracked a seemingly inevitable death. I'd like to think an overhaul of the site would result in a return to past glories, but I'm not certain we could tolerate new posters after its been a private forum for so long.

Of course, this site has gone from strength to strength as there hasn't been any option for new posters to try the alternative. I don't post here partly cause I can't be bothered, partly because no one here gives a [censored] about my posts and I don't get the ego boost like I get over the road. Mostly I don't post here because there is a few posters who feel the need to post in every thread offering nothing of substance. but I certainly respect the job the mods do in controlling a shed load of traffic with minimal angst, something Ology was never able to achieve.

Nash: Maybe we should explore that Ology sub forum we discussed on Facebook a cuppla years back.

Yep - in my opinion Demonology's biggest failing. It is a club rather than a forum. How it became that way is unfortunate but I think you're right. Even if Tim recovered overnight & there was an upgrade, I doubt the "New Members Welcome" sign would be hung out with a great deal of sincerity

Mostly I don't post here because there is a few posters who feel the need to post in every thread offering nothing of substance.

I'd agree that's the weakness of this joint too.

FWIW I am a (limited) poster here, on 'Ology and on Bigfooty. I read all three. All three have some posters who are well worth reading. The first forum I actually joined was MFC Flame (RIP)

I've been in contact with George and offered our help if we can assist in any way and, of course, with the approval of Tim Stanes.

I've always enjoyed coaching the Demonland/Demonology teams and really miss the days when we had our sponsorship going and those lunches at the Mountain View.

Perhaps we can get one going again before the end of the year. One of the beauties of those lunches was that for some reason the Demons would always manage a good win after our functions.

I think you're wrong Chook most on here would enjoy reading your posts; there's a lot more traffic on here and more forums so thing can get lost or buried quickly, but good posts don't go unnoticed.

The "like" function on this forum is designed for the man with the ego! I actually thought it was a stupid idea (too facebooky) initially but have warmed to it. It gives a way to be able to give someone a 'nod' without having to actually reply. And it's kind of nice when you see 10+ people give your post a 'like'.

Seriously though, as Robbie said, good posts don't go unnoticed. One problem that comes with mass popularity in forums is mass waves of numpties posting crap - this is true for every forum I've ever been a part of. People who talk sense regularly really stick out and regulars get a feel for whose posts to read and whose not to read. I've become a master at skim-reading threads and just picking out the quality posts to read, and I've always done that on both sites.

And as for the sub-forum idea, I'm always still open to the possibility.

While we're on the subject of Demon sites, I don't think we should underestimate the value and importance of DemonWiki as a fantastic resource about all things Melbourne.

I'm researching for an article at the moment and found it invaluable. I think it's time the MFC recognised its importance from the historical perspective of the club. I often hear Cameron Schwab and Neil Craig talk about the history and traditions of the club and I know there are some good books around but DemonWiki is a gem of a site.

Of course, Demonland and Demonology have both become a small part of that tradition for many of us and both deserve to continue on for the benefit of the members and supporters.

I joined Demonology in 2004 and in the first couple of years I had the sort of fun posting that has yet to be replicated. It was challenging and thought provoking. Even the chat room gave me some laughs. I haven't bothered for years, other than the odd cameo, but I have fond memories and would never criticise the site..

2004-06? For some reason, my fun since then has yet to be replicated too.

Pre-demonland I started at demonology before it was a forum and was just an e-mail list run by now-club-employee Martin Cox when he was about 15yo - good memories. Actually I started in internet footy forums at rsfa in the early 90s - I recognise at least one poster from those days.

Robbie - good to see you're about and active on here.

Indeed you have left a sizeable footprint on the Melbourne Club and the General section is just not the same.

Going by the error at a glance I'd say it is database related.

May have run out of disk space causing the table to pretty much crap itself as it can't write any more data to the disk.

The site doesn't need a rewrite as much as just to get some pre-canned forum software, install it and migrate the existing message content over.

Of course there is the question of who is going to pay for the hosting or cloud space.....

Thanks GOTO, that is good news. Ology is on my top 10 bookmarks. Wherever I am working - Angola, Kazakstan, Myanmar - it is a little piece of home and can "soften" the pain of another 10 goal loss.

George is trying to sort it out. We need blokes like you, Nasher and Williamson to get the keys to the joint and give it the once over.

Talking to Smithy yesterday and it appears that Tim doesn't want to hand over the reins; if he did the site could be resurrected and new members could join. I know nothing about IT but there must be hundreds of posters that no longer post and if they could be purged from the system then surely that would free up space; or is that too simple?

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
