Message from the President...

Recommended Posts

Send the old guard to Casey and play some more kids. With our new training they will pick it up fast.

Look at the stats - our younger players were the only ones that put in an effort. They have to go.

All intents and purposes Mclardy would say they have

That would be troubling if he believes that.

But the people behind the scenes who appointed those people and caused friction are still there.

Hmmmm

Im not sure we have gone backwards.

Too early to tell. We certainly have not gone forwards by any measure.

when i read this all i just felt deja vu.

It was like a paraphrased version of the more sedate / level headed posts on the topic from demonland!

Why not the Bulldogs, or St. Kilda or Richmond for that matter?

No. I would suggest that we supporters are the most unique characters in the game.

And the whole footballing world loves us for it.

Deers I think you are totally wrong.

The only emotion other supporters feel for the MFC is pity.

I do not want their pity I would rather they laugh.

I crave their hate when we are pounding them by 20 goals.

In Mark Neeld, we have a respected leader who will take this Club forward. He has a very clear vision for our team and I know he is the right man for the job.

Didn't the Club say that DB was the right man for the job?

No offence to McLardy, but the message is interesting only in that it occurred; the content was pretty stock standard yada yada.

Agreed.

Pointless statement to appease the peanuts.

Very predicable, he said exactly what I expected.

But to cut him a little slack he could not come out and say Player X is a bum who does not want to conform and will be shown the door at years end

Or we made a mistake by giving Neeld the job.

The interview on Foxtel tonight might get closer to the mark.

I will reserve judgement for a while.

Words are cheap actions are what counts.

In regard to your letter to supporters and with respect Mr President.

I acknowledge that the financial side of the club has been dealt with fairly well.

However, the football side of the club is a mess – I particularly reject the criticism that the players are responsible because they have trouble learning a ‘new game plan’.

The playing list is of a similar talent to any other club, when allowance is made for age, experience, etc etc. If they are not, then why did the club recruit them in the first place?

The so-called ‘new game plan’ is out of date and already shown to be unsuccessful except in most unusual circumstances. Clubs such as Essendon, Geelong, Adelaide, Richmond, etc., have already adopted a much better style of game – Geelong being the most successful and obvious example. Future success for MFC depends on moving further forward in this direction.

In regard to your attempted defence of the current football department, in particular, is it true, as rumoured, that MFC interviewed only one inexperienced assistant coach – Mark Neeld – and if so, why, when there were other options?

It is also not acceptable to say that more time is needed to learn a ‘new game plan’ – MFC has had too much time already, when other clubs have made small changes to their ‘game plans’ with reasonable success and apparently reasonable future prospects.

So Mr President, I do not accept the majority of your letter and I expect better from the club, and quickly, especially given that I have been supporting the club for over 50 years!.

Hey what about this- Let's just ignore this BS because you could already know what would be said in a letter like this before you've read it. The same old crap, we've already heard it before. Excuses for the players. Excuses for the coach. The reality is we are on the bottom of the ladder and have been crap so far this year. Poor form McLardy, just don't say anything if you aren't going to go past the obvious cliches. We could lose every game this year and still get the same message. Pathetic.

Hardnut your post is Exhibit A as to why such 'statements' from Presidents have the potential to backfire (see my post above).

I'm not saying I agree with you (I don't on several points), but your opinion is valid and I'm sure many will agree with it.

I like Don McLardy, seems like a nice person, but I don't think he is a strong leader and I wonder if it won't be long before we see the phrase "embattled President" before his name in news articles on the MFC.

I'd like Paul Roos to ask McLardy two questions tonight.

1. How many applicants did MFC interview (full presentations) for the job for the senior coaching position. Was Sanderson one of them.

2. Why is it necessary for the club to go back to square one after 4 years of rebuilding under Bailey in light of the fact that the Stynes Board extended his contract in February 2010. If Bailey was the wrong coach why didn't they sack him before the 2010 season.

Apart from that I think a message was necessary but it should have said something enlightening rather than the predictable platitudes.

I look forward to OTC with interest.

The only thing I want McLardy or Schwab to tell me is the name of their far more credentialed replacements. If this club is to survive these two have to move on. In saying this I mean no disrespect to Don Mclardy, he didn't choose to become President but surely as an intelligent man he knows he's swimming way outside the flags with this club. As for Schwab, how many more chances does he get. And when he goes can we send him off with those ridiculous blazers.and our pink jumpers. Maybe get Colin, Brent, Brad, Aaron and Mark to carry his stuff on their way out the door.

I'd love Neeld to bring in Couch, Davis,Tynan, Taggert and Nicholson. Sure we'll get pumped but at least we'll get an idea if the future exists or not,

You can't be serious Fan. You expect the President to publicly go over the circumstances of the selection of a coach made 8 months ago? To what purpose?

The only purpose I can think of is to assuage your bitterness and political agenda

Stupid, stupid post

So I can understand what's gone on. If I don't know what's gone on who do I know who to vote for at the next election. If he's got good answers that give confidence, if not at least I know. Voting for our Board is the only say the members have.

My bitterness is at our inept current situation and McLardy leads the club.

What are you going to ask him? What he had for dinner tonight?

Very ordinary letter from the President. A shame, we deserve more. Listening to SEN Tonight many Demon supporters rang in and voiced a lot of frustration and anger. A lot of 40-50 year supporters.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi
